Jesus makes us a promise in the Gospel of Matthew, in the Parable of the Good Samaritan, "Love God with your whole heart and soul and your neighbor as yourself. Do this and you shall have eternal life."

So, Jesus makes an important promise here and Jesus keeps His promises. So, my question is, "How do we show our love of God and neighbor in our daily lives? Thanks.

Another great thread, if you ask me. It calls us to reflect how we apply our faith. I definitely can always do better.

I suppose it starts, or should anyway, lol, by having One on one time with our Lord, the One, who is love. He helps us to love as we are called. He calls us to thank Him, and rejoice in Him, to also take time and pray for others. I can get caught up in myself, or take myself too seriously, so I always ask Him to help me in this area so I have room to think on others.

Another way starts in our thoughts, try to find the lovely, thinking well of others, hoping only the best for them. I don't like when peeps assume the worst in me, so I try not to do that with others. I think loving others starts in our thoughts. I want the meditation of my thoughts be pleasing to Him. I think He cares how we love others, even in the privacy of our minds.

Another, being kind in our dealings with others, showing mercy, and always be looking for little ways we can serve others, even if it is just listening, showing tender loving care...wow..we all know how being listened to brings comfort. He wants us to care for one another which can be exhausting, too weary, it seems, to care like I know He wants me too. This is why I/we need Him desperately.

Your thread has me thinking of one of my fav scriptures ..

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8 ESV

How about you? What do you think?

How do you think we show our love of God and neighbor? I would like to read your thoughts about this. I'm sure you have some, so please share them with us, and we will see if our thoughts agree with yours.

In the parable, Jesus was the neighbor (Samaritan).

Hello Arthur, you are correct, the Lord Jesus keeps His promises to us :)

That said, since we can see how simple it is to obtain eternal life, why do you think that He (the Father) sent His only begotten Son here (since it seems like it wasn't necessary for Him to do so)

This is especially confounding (and perhaps troubling?) when we realize that God knew what would happen to Him when He did, that His Son would be hated and tortured (as a wholly innocent man), and that by His own people, and that He would also end up dying a simply HORRIBLE/HORIFIC death (on a cross).

So, what gives? If this is all true, then why the Incarnation and why the Cross  (especially knowing that neither of them was necessary because, as you pointed out, all we have to do to obtain eternal life from God is to follow the instructions, see v27 below, and we're good, yes? No Savior needed ... obviously!*).

Thanks :)

God bless you!!

Luke 10
25 A lawyer stood up and put Jesus to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
26 And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?”
27 And he answered, “YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.”
28 And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE.”

*Edit: Just to be clear, yes, a portion of what I wrote in this post is meant to be taken as, "tongue in cheek" ;)

Hello again Arthur, I thought that I should add (with my silliness, and all of the rest of it from my last post aside) that I agree with @CharliRenee, that your question (above) is a great and important one for a believer to think through (regularly).

Thank you for broaching it for us to discuss :)

God bless you!!

Charlirenee, actually I think you have answered the question well.

I too think that we can look to Scripture for the answer to 'Love of God and Neighbor'. Specifically, look at Jesus' teachings in the Gospel of Matthew's 'Judgement of Nations'. In this reading, Jesus makes it clear that we show our love of neighbor when we help those in need. More importantly, we show our love for Jesus, God, through our love of neighbor. Whatsoever we do unto or for our brothers/sisters, we do unto Jesus Himself. Love of God and neighbor are intertwined/inseperable.

Re: Luke 10:25-28 . . "You have answered correctly" Jesus replied "Do this
and you will live."

We've heard a lot about misinformation during the past two years, while very
little about missing information. For example Dr. Anthony Fauci says we should
follow the science. Yes, I agree we should, however; the public should be given
all the available science to consider, not just Fauci's slant on it.

Jesus' response was 100% spot-on as far as it went, however; unlike Dr. Fauci's
stubborn refusal to take all the available data into account, God is generous
with additonal information to supplement that given the public by His son.

According to Deut 27:26 & Rom 2:7, in order to obtain eternal life by means of
good conduct, it has to be consistent. In other words; negligence of any amount
is curse-worthy, i.e. one slip and you're dead: game over.

Seems like you already knew the answer to your question so why did you ask?

I asked because it's an important question that we all need to ask ourselves often. We need to reflect on our love of God and neighbor often.

If we love them, we will tell them... the Truth.

John 4:35
“Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.”

When we submit and obey, He will let His light shine through us.
