Who says that you can save yourself? What I'm saying is that if you define works as man made , then it won't do you any good. But if works is initiated by God, then you are led by the Holy Spirit. Your works can't save you. You are already saved if you are filled with the Holy Spirit and are led by Him.
The title and subject of this thread is "accepting" Christ and if that is enough for salvation. So its not about the works of the Holy Spirit with in you.

Reminds me of a "preacher of righteousness" that did it for 120 years, with
no results (offended everyone?):

Noah.

GRACE And Peace...

I think i am doing what He wishes, regardless of what the outcome is.

But there is always doing it better: A soft answer turns away wrath

This analogy may be helpful - I don't know - what think ye?:

A traveler stands at the airport window, and looks at the airplane. He
believes [intellectually] with his mind. Yes, that "will get me to my
destination." IOW, he/she admits "yes, I accept that as a fact."

However, Until said traveler, believes with the heart, and, trusts his/her
life "into the pilots hands," and actually "gets on board" [heart faith]
he/she Will Never "get to their destination," Correct?

Thus, in light of the "Past tense" of:

The THREE Tenses Of God's ETERNAL Salvation:

"But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not
trust in ourselves, but in God Which raiseth the dead: Who delivered
us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in Whom we trust that He
will yet deliver us;" (2 Corinthians 1:9-10 KJB!) =

God's Will, Today, Under HIS PURE GRACE? Very Simply:

► faith, trust, [true heart] belief that God's Word Is Trustworthy!

1) Past Tense = "...God delivered us from so great a death...":

God Establishes HIS Eternal Relationship With
those who humbly repent [change mind about sin] and:

believe, 100% trust, place Total faith, In The LORD JESUS CHRIST,
HIS Death (
Precious BLOOD), Burial, And HIS Resurrection,
According To The Scriptures!
[trusting life In Jesus' Hands!!]
(1 Corinthians 15:3-4; cp Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3-5 KJB!)

"GRACE Through faith" [offering NO finite "works!"], 100% Trusting In
The Precious Infinite Merits Of HIS
ALL-Sufficient BLOOD Results:

All sins Forgiven, His Eternal Life, And, Peace With God!
(Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 2:13; Romans 6:23; Romans 5:1)

This Is Eternal Deliverance From the Penalty of sin,
The So Great A [Second ] Death! (Revelation 21:8) =
Justification
and Spiritual Sanctification

Oh here is the real palatable answer:

I like Charlirenee says:

He saves us, and then He continues to work in us that we may be vessels for Him. Yes, His salvation gets us there, 100%, and it is His salvation that makes our faith effectual.

Note: effectual means a lot

The water baptism is optional. Do you know why John baptized with water?
The water symbolized the Holy Spirit. Therefore, a baptism in water was the type that would be fulfilled by Jesus, through a baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Mark 1:6-8
John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist, and his diet was locusts and wild honey. And he was preaching, and saying, “After me One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to stoop down and untie the thong of His sandals. I baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

John's baptism was a baptism of repentance from sin.

Accepting Christ is a commonly used term in a lot of Protestant churches

I know lots of people believe accepting Christ is equal to Salvation, but that puts the shoe of Salvation on the Wrong foot, your foot. I have had this conversation on my new thread, and clearly the Bible teaches that Jesus is the SOLE Author of Salvation and HE predestined US to be like HIM. That Happened before the beginning of time, or before the world began. So the Holy Spirit Emersed of us into the Spiritual Body if Christ, called Spiritual Baptism, and EVEN Christ WROTE our Names in the Book Life before the foundation of the World. Because HE FOREKNEW we would accept HIM eventually. I was 29, before I genuinely Surrendered to CHRIST AS MY LORD. But my Salvation began before HE Created the World. Now let me show you some verses, that will prove that to you.

1 Corinthians 12:13 (HCSB)
13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body
whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. {That includes the thief on the Cross. NOTICE, no Water on the Thief.}

Isaiah 46:11 (HCSB)
11 I call a bird of prey from the east, a man for My purpose from a far country.
Yes, I have spoken; so I will also bring it about. I have planned it; I will also do it.
{No ands, ifs, buts, or maybes, IT IS AS IF HE TRULY ALREADY ACCOMPLISHED IT.}

Romans 8:29-30 (HCSB)
29 For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn {Resurrected, never to die again} among many brothers.
30 And those He predestined, He also called; and those He called, He also justified; and those He justified, He also glorified. {Your Works do not improve you chances to get to heaven, your works are NOT part of Salvation, your works do not maintain Salvation, and your works are NOT a substitute for Salvation. If you are REALLY Predestined, you will have a burning desire in you heart, to LOVE HIM BACK, and to share it with others. That is the TRUE PURPOSE for Works. JESUS DID IT ALL, BEFORE TIME BEGAN.}

2 Timothy 1:9 (HCSB)
9 He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.

Titus 3:5-7 (HCSB)
5 He saved us- not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
6 He poured out this Spirit on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
7 so that having been justified {notice the past tense verbiage} by His grace, we may become heirs with the hope of eternal life.

WHEN ? ? ?

Revelation 13:8 (HCSB)
8 All those who live on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name was not written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slaughtered.

I believe Calvinism is another gospel with another Jesus. There I said it since this blog has become a sounding board for false doctrine. If I offended any Calvinists, personally I don't care . Because I haven't met one that has a clue, because they overlay scripture with the template of their TULIP doctrine. You don't need that any man teach you what the scriptures say. You need the Holy Spirit inspired Word of God Taken literally . When The Bible says ALL it means ALL not SOME for example . Anyway , gnash your teeth. Jesus died for all men , whosoever means whosoever . Never once in the Bible does it say man is not able to respond to God through the Gospel and the ministry of the Holy Spirit . Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God . He won't over-rule freewill and enable SOME> another gospel AND another Jesus. Good Night.

Q: Is receiving Christ enough to be saved?

A:. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law."
Romans 3:28 and 4:5 says,
"But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness."

"Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace." Verse 16

What exactly is"receiving Christ?

A:. " But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"
John1:12

People are taught Wrongly that it's not enough to believe on Christ, but they must ADD believe on works of the law. That math is Not Biblical and never equals salvation from hell.

Receiving Christ is believing/ trusting HIM to save you.

The title and subject of this thread is "accepting" Christ and if that is enough for salvation. So its not about the works of the Holy Spirit with in you.
Three things need to happen for salvation.
You need to be baptized (not water) in the name of the Father . Eph 3: 14-15 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of (by) whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,...When one is baptized in the name of the Father, he first acknowledges that he is a sinner, repents, and then turns to Him for forgiveness. Acts 11: 18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life. It is the Father who grants the repentance that is necessary to gain life. This repentance is not a gift that can be refused. Repentance is a state of being and once it is granted, you have it. Luke 13: 3 I tell you, Nay. But, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Repentance is necessary Luke 5: 31-32 And Jesus, answering, said unto them, They that are well need not a physician, but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. It is Christ and those in His spiritual body that call sinners to repentance by their teaching, but it is the Father who chooses because it is He who grants repentance. Eph 1: 3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ, According as He ( the Father) hath chosen us in Him ( the Son) before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him ( the Father) in love. It is the Father who has chosen us as belonging to the spiritual body of Christ and therefore, we are in Christ.
You need to be baptized (not water) in the name of the Son. You are baptized in the name of the Son when Jesus is preached to you and you believe and trust in the Father's plan for salvation through Jesus Christ. Acts 8: 12 But when they believed Phillip preaching the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Notice that they were baptized (not water) "when they believed". 1 Cor 1: 21 For after that, in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. People get saved when Jesus is preached to them as their Lord and Savior. Acts 19: 2-5 He (Paul) said unto them, have you received the Holy Spirit since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there is any Holy Spirit. And he said unto them, Unto what, then, were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him who should come after him, that is on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized ( not water) in the name of the Lord Jesus. When did they get baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus? Not when they got water baptized, but when they heard about Jesus and believed.
You need to be baptized (not water) in the name of the Holy Spirit. Eph 1: 4 According as He ( the Father) hath chosen us in Him ( the Son) before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him ( the Father) in love. We are holy when the Father chooses us. We are without blame when we put our trust in Jesus for the remission of sins. " In love" means that we have received the gift ( baptism) of the Holy Spirit who perfects us by filling our hearts with divine love so that all our thoughts and actions are motivated by love for God and man ( see 1 Cor 13: 1-13). It is then that we are obeying the Spirit of the Law (which we can achieve with the help of the Holy Spirit) and not focusing on obeying the Letter of the Law ( which we cannot achieve because if you break one law, you've broken them all).
Acts 2: 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Notice the three elements of salvation: Repentance, belief on Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit are Baptism in the Name of the Father, in the Name of the Son, and in the name of the Holy Spirit. These baptisms are produced by the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit and not by humans.

It is not "We" that do the accepting, but "They".
Why is receiving the Holy Spirit a gift?

The one time mere confession of "accepting Christ" from the non-Christian and the Christian is far from enough! It only puts you in the same category as Satan who believes! If you are a Christian what should your attitude be about doing the right thing? Are you saved? 1John 3:9 says “No one born of God commits sin; for God’s nature abides in him, and he cannot sin because he is born of God.” Many translations say "continue" in sin, a habit of sinning. Matthew 7:21 says: “Not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” Christianity is about doing God’s will. Rev 20:13: "... and they were judged every man according to their works."

What Jesus do you believe in? The one who gave himself to redeem us from all iniquity? The one who gave us a new nature, who enabled us to do what’s right? Shall you continue in sin that grace may abound? (Rom 6:1). What you do is directly related to what you believe.
You have the power to walk the way he walked.

Does obeying God's just commandments mean that it has to be a hard, white knuckled, teeth clenching event as a Christian? No! You can love Him and really want to do what is right, because you seek to please God with all of your heart, all of your mind and all of your soul. Many have felt the return love of God which cannot be replaced by anything on this Earth. Out of the abundance of love for God you will want to worship Him because he first loved you by His sacrifice. When you know Him even more you will see who He really is, His power, beauty, His gentleness, His tenderness, (and a long list of other superlatives) plus his continued forgiveness for the rare times you fall. Then you will want to worship Him even more!
If you receive Christ, then you are saved. That's the Bible, John 1:12. It's much more than believing the facts about Christ. It is an encounter with the One who died and rose again. If an individual has truly received Christ, then that person will be made alive in Him. He may not know what has happened or the implications. But that person has a new, alive spirit and has the possibility of becoming a true disciple. Not all are willing to pay the price. Some refuse the cross. Not all who are born again become kingdom Christians and so they gain no kingdom rewards. We get one life. It's a tragedy to waste it.

Again with the error. The work of God is to believe on Him whom God has sent . Ergo . The work of God is to believe on Him whom God has sent. Believing and repenting with faith comes as part of the same animal. You believe into Christ as you are delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of God. Believing into Christ is being born of the Spirit of God into a covenant relationship . Faith was the first part of obedience and deliverance from sin the Holy Spirit convinced your soul of sin " of sin >because they believe not on me" John 16 v8-11 . But alas you are not left to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling alone you now have "it is God who works in you to will and to do of His good pleasure". Christ in you . You have received a new nature with new desires ,The Blood of Christ has made you near to God you are no longer alienated . You have been reconciled , imputed the righteousness of God visa v the Blood of the Lamb. Walking in the light is a covenant thing God is a covenant God . If we walk in the light as He is in the light If we confess our sins He is faithful and just . You are responding to the person of God working in you to will and to do it is not self-effort it is relationship being kept by the power of God unto the day of salvation by Him who is determined to finish the work he began in you. He will spend the rest of your life trying to get you to Trust Him.
