No...
I was keeping up. The problem was his attitude and his bruised ego. I did exactly as what I said I could and would. The reviews over the food proved that. But I refused to contend with nitpicking and disrespectful and subversive statements all day long while getting exhausted. Especially since he refused to take responsibility for his actions and choices. (Or lack thereof)

I was the brains, he was the financial person...but he refused to institute controls on ordering supplies or the register.
Customer buddy isn't a paid position in foodservice...especially in a bakery. (Since it wasn't much of a coffee shop)

I had fun while it was fun. When I came to work and was getting angry every day I knew that it was over. Hey, I got my name in the local newspaper and it wasn't as a "person of interest wanted for questioning" in a criminal investigation.

It's his business now and he can do as he pleases...until he decides to stop bleeding money. The foodservice industry is not difficult to succeed in...but you can't break the guidelines. And he refuses to follow any.
I have this running policy with my servers. You can kiss all the bums you like as long as you don't expect me pucker up.

Did you leave him a book of recipes to follow?

Or these days more like a computer folder of recipes...
Nope, but he can't follow them anyway because they are in ratios and weights...the type of flour is left out (I had six on hand at all times) and some recipes were dependent upon other things. Like the dried cherry cookie required candied orange peel...OK unless you know how to candy orange peels the way I do you are sunk.

So he is dun unless he hires in a new baker capable and able of doing all that I did. Most bakeries have a pastry, a cake, and a bread crews. I was all three.

My Scripture for the day from Ten Bible verses is 'Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character' 1 Cor 15:33. I take it he wasn't a Christian or a carnal Christian maybe. Thx for sharing an important lesson.
More like a double minded one...when push came to shove he kept folding like a cheap suit. The least bit of resistance and all his Christian morality flew out the window.

Candied orange peel... My mother used to make candied orange peel.

That was a snack for us. For you it was an ingredient? Those better be some really good cookies...

I think Charles Stanley's radio program taught/touched on that today also...

Actually they outsold toll house...they were number one in sales. I was shocked that the cookie my wife and I invented and developed over the years was the most popular.

Cherry with dried orange peel sounds scrumpdillyicious! :)(y):D

You worked hard and succeeded but for the dead weight of your partner...

Surely something good will come of this

Yep, I know a few of those, when inheritance came up their Christianity took the back seat to covetousness. The holidays are upon us, so let the goodies roll and count our blessings.

I got some serious accolades. It was a really nice ego stroke. I got to live out a dream. I did things my way with a really risky menu and not only succeeded but did so with bells on.

How many people get to do that?

I am so grateful to God for the chance.

Yes, it's a shame about how things turned out...but my hope is in Jesus and not me. So I'm good. I just wished that I could have trained an apprentice. But oh well.

The fun in the holidays is in the getting ready for them. I am planning already. Gingerbread house neighborhoods....lots of chocolate truffles and of course lots of cookies. All to be given away...maybe some scratch breads and eclairs too.

Money can't buy me or my treats anymore... it pays to be friends with all the "little people".

I was sort of hoping we might get to resume the "coffee shop/bakery name" challenge with Port and Stern coming to mind as my next submission to christen the launching this time. And hey! lo, seeing the discussion has arrived at fun for the holidays, I found an article Port and Pastry Pairing for the Holidays dated October 28, 2020. Bon Voyage/Appetit!

The loss of a friend hurts the most out of this whole ordeal.

I don't understand why people get such distorted attitudes. I know that I can't change people...or even adjust their attitudes about me or themselves.

But it was fun while it lasted.
It will be interesting to see if he can keep the doors open. I doubt he will. Especially if he continues like he is going. I was the single point of failure. I tried not to be. But currently he is still fighting with someone who walked away from the argument. I guess that some lessons are very expensive to learn and some people still refuse to learn them even then. I hope he does learn them.

Then Jesus took the loaves, and gave thanks to God...
