I find it interesting that most won't listen to a few minutes of a video. Just because someone is of a certain faith doesn't mean they don't have a close relationship with God. I would take the time to listen to what someone is saying and then see if it aligns with God's word the Bible then you can make a better judgement of whether the person is actually speaking the truth or not.

God has his faithful followers in many different denominations which includes the Catholic church, but because so many are against that particular denomination, they just make a hasty judgement without even listening to what is being said. This also happens with different political parties not taking the time to listen to what the other side is saying.

The person in the video is not off base and I agree with giving God each moment of our lives and asking Him how we should or what should we do with that moment. One doesn't have to always give up everything unless God is calling you to do that.

I do remember many years ago when I still lived in Florida that I asked God to let me know when and if I should leave Florida and I lived there a little over 40 years maybe even 41 years, but a few years ago I felt that call to go and leave and I prayed and asked to let me know where I should go and I felt like it should be Tennessee and then I prayed and asked for Him to help me find a house and where He wanted me to find a house. I wanted to live as close to Gatlinburg as I could get not so much in the downtown area but in the nature area outside the city, but that didn't happen and there was not a house available close by, but there was a perfect house that fit my needs in Jamestown TN about 2 and a half hours away. Door opened where they had been closed and I feel this is where God wants us.

Just because the person in the OP video may or may not be a Catholic doesn't mean he doesn't have something of value to share. Those who didn't take the time to listen to the video missed out on something worth hearing and as far as I can tell what he is saying is in agreement with the Bible and that we should give our moments to God and ask Him how He would like us to spend those moments for Him.

Yeah, it does actually. At least as far as a Roman Catholic priest goes; one who claims to be a teacher of God's word. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

All I know is...

If you want more happy
Than your heart can hold
If you want to stand tall
And live the truth we're told
Take whatever you have
And give it away

If you want less lonely
And a lot more fun
And deep satisfaction
When the day is done
Throw your heart wide open
And give it awaaaaaaaaay

I'm pretty sure Rowan is Anglican... my younger brother is an acquaintance of his in Cambridge.
Many react to what flavor of Christian a speaker is.

My emphasis is to believing what Jesus said that we will know His voice. Christians are like gold they are found wherever they are found.

I respect what Jesus prayed for that they may be one!

Most people are so afraid of believing false doctrine. Commendable. How do you know false currency from real currency? Because you know what the real currency is. I am trying to do that, not reject teaching from Godly men and women just because they are a different flavor than i am.

I believe the major tenants of the Christian faith. In the less important and less understood freedom and acceptance of other believers.

Teachers are given to the body of Christ!

Godly teachers are where you find them even in mainline denominations. Its the person that has the powerful One living in them.

Jesus gave HS to each of us, we need not run to an outward form, mis-taught "theologian" or cleric to guide us.
Jesus was clear Holy Spirit would guide each of us.:):coffee::unsure:(y)

Roman Catholics aren't just another "flavor." They aren't even Christians, no matter how strenuously they might object to this.

If someone bows down to a wafer they say is Jesus, and sacrifice it over and over in the mass, they have denied the real Jesus and His finished work on the cross. If they pray to Mary and bow the knee to her they're worshipping a false goddess.

In your zeal for unity you've lost all discretion.

I listened to the video with Rowan, don't recall surname
It's Rowan Williams... I think he's a former archbishop of Canterbury in the Anglican church.

I didn't listen to it because I already know what I believe on this subject.... not that I'm not open to amplification, but I'm just not interested enough to pursue it. It has nothing to do with his collar orientation. I believe anybody can have something valuable to say.

Some say there are no Priests in the New Testament. Has it ever occurred to those who say that, if that were true, there would be no Tithes either? Tithes are always and everywhere only for Priests, that is absolutely Biblically indisputable. If anyone wants to, I'll give the verses to prove it. Just think how Abraham Tithed Melchizedek. And why? Because He was a Priest of God Most High: "1This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, 2and Abraham apportioned to him a tenth of everything." (Heb 7:1-2)

And so, a tithe is a payment for a service. And what service is that? That of making offerings and sacrifices to Almighty God. Those who say there are no Priests in the NT also haven't read the Greek, which proves otherwise: "to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest the gospel of God, so that my offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit." (Rom 15:16, NASB). Will give the Greek if asked. Holy Communion, the Body and Blood of Christ, is to be offered to God first before we partake of it. That is a Priestly duty. The Greek words in the Gospels also make this clear: "Do this in memory of Me" can also be translated, and arguably is better translated: "Offer this in memory of Me". After all, Christ had just offered His Body and His Blood for the remission of sins before saying this.

"During the Last Supper, the Lord said to his disciples, “Do this in memory of me.” In Greek, this statement reads, Touto poieite eis tan eman anamnesin.” There are two.aspects of this phrase that deserve consideration. For one, the phrase touto poieite can be translated as do this or as offer this. In the Old Testament, God commands the Israelites “you shall offer (poieseis) upon the altar two lambs” (Ex. 29:38). This use of poiein is translated as offer this or sacrifice this over seventy times in the Old Testament" https://www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/is-the-mass-a-sacrifice

Just to answer that anti-Catholic attack from ResidentAlien. Many denominations believe in the Real Presence of Christ including Anglicans, Lutherans and Orthodox: "The real presence of Christ in the Eucharist is the Christian doctrine that Jesus Christ is present in the Eucharist, not merely symbolically or metaphorically,[1] but in a true, real and substantial way. There are a number of Christian denominations that teach that Christ is truly present in the Eucharist, including Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Oriental Orthodoxy, the Church of the East, the Moravian Church, Lutheranism, Anglicanism, Methodism, Irvingism and Reformed Christianity.[1][2][3][4][5][6] The differences in the teachings of these Churches primarily concern "the mode of Christ's presence in the Lord’s Supper".[1]" From Wiki.

Now, back to the issue of wealth: I think again here, it is good to distinguish between Pastors, Priests and Full-time Missionaries on one hand, and ordinary believers. The Apostles are examples of pastors/priests who left all for the Lord.

Matthew 19: The Reward for those who do leave everything behind 100% and follow Jesus, even becoming poor to do so:

"27Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?”
28So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. 30But many who are first will be last, and the last first."

And they were rewarded for it, as the above says. They did what the Rich Man could not. This occurs after that incident.

Now, go back to Mat 4:22: "and immediately they [Sts. James and John] left the boat and their father and followed him."

There is a reason the Apostles are Great Saints and were Great Priests of the Early Church. They did what the other didn't.

Of course, yet there is nothing He will not teach us, and we are to take EVERYTHING to Him as we give Him 1st place, not after any one else, 1st place.
Until we do, we may need a teacher.

Good Exegesis of Jesus and the Rich Young Man/Ruler here:

"This event relates the term "eternal life" to entry into the Kingdom of God.[7] The account starts with a question to Jesus about eternal life, and Jesus then refers to entry into the Kingdom of God in the same context.[7][8] The rich young man was the context in which Pope John Paul II brought out the Christian moral law in chapter 1 of his 1993 encyclical letter Veritatis splendor.[9]

While Jesus's instructions to the rich young ruler are often interpreted to be supererogatory for Christians, Dietrich Bonhoeffer argues that this interpretation acquiesces in what he calls "cheap grace", lowering the standard of Christian teaching:
The difference between ourselves and the rich young man is that he was not allowed to solace his regrets by saying: "Never mind what Jesus says, I can still hold on to my riches, but in a spirit of inner detachment. Despite my inadequacy I can take comfort in the thought that God has forgiven me my sins and can have fellowship with Christ in faith." But no, he went away sorrowful. Because he would not obey, he could not believe. In this the young man was quite honest. He went away from Jesus and indeed this honesty had more promise than any apparent communion with Jesus based on disobedience.[10]
Separately, dispensational theologians distinguish between the Gospel of the Kingdom and the Gospel of Grace that is taught in dispensational churches today to avoid conflict with the doctrine which states that salvation is "by grace through faith" articulated in Ephesians 2:8–9.[11]
In the other references, it says:
The young ruler’s decision was not wise. If he had become a faithful follower of Jesus, he could have received what he was searching for—everlasting life. We are not told what happened to that young man. We do know, however, that about four decades later, the Roman armies devastated Jerusalem and much of Judea. Many Jews lost both their riches and their lives. In contrast with the young ruler, the apostle Peter and other disciples made a good choice. They "left all things" and followed Jesus. How that decision benefited them! Jesus told them that they would receive many times more than what they left behind. Moreover, they would inherit everlasting life. Theirs was a decision that they did not have to regret later. — Matthew 19:27–29.[12]
Justus Knecht reflects on this passage, writing: "The young man had kept the commandments from his youth up; and yet he did not feel satisfied. He wished to do even more than was commanded, or was absolutely necessary; in other words, he wished to reach a higher state of perfection. Our Lord, seeing this, gave him this counsel: 'If thou wishest to be perfect, become voluntarily poor, and follow Me.' There is no desire more noble, or more pleasing to God than the desire for perfection; and as our Lord looked at the young man, He loved him for this yearning of his soul." Knecht goes to say that unfortunately the young man "resisted our Lord’s gracious invitation, because of his too great attachment to the things of this world."[13]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_and_the_rich_young_man
