Why don't you give us a summary of the article, I clicked on the link and was assaulted with their ads. Not going to do anything to give NY Times views or whatever helps their metrics. I have had an issue with that organization going back forty years.
Four members of the Oath Keepers were convicted Monday of seditious conspiracy in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol
in the second major trial of far-right extremists accused of plotting to forcibly keep former president Donald Trump in power.

The verdict against Joseph Hackett of Sarasota, Fla., Roberto Minuta of Prosper, Texas, David Moerschel of Punta Gorda, Fla.,
and Edward Vallejo of Phoenix, Ariz., comes weeks after a different jury convicted the group's leader, Stewart Rhodes, in the
mob's attack that halted the certification of U.S. President Joe Biden's electoral victory.

Matthew 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Quoting the New York Times on BOGUS SEDITION CHARGES. How pathetic, how sad, and how disgusting when the real traitors are actually running the government. The NY Times is essentially garbage.
No.. they were actually convicted. It's not fake news

Luke 13:1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?

3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Maybe you should have quoted Romans instead where it says to obey the law

Fair enough

Let's look at why God is allowing these Jan 6th "criminals" to be treated so harshly and seemingly hypocritically

13 Let every soul be in subjection to the higher powers:

Every soul includes Nancy Pelosi, Donald Trump, Chuck Schumer, Ray Epps, the FBI, and everyone arrested on January 6th. It is a major misunderstanding of this passage to think that it refers only to peons and not to Senators, Presidents, and other people in positions of power.

for there is no power but of God; and the powers that be are ordained of God.

Yes, God ordained that Nancy Pelosi, Donald Trump and Chuck Schumer would be in positions of power. But all of their power and authority comes from the constitution. If you violate the constitution you are not in subjection to God and you will be judged like anyone else.

2 Therefore he that resisteth the power, withstandeth the ordinance of God: and they that withstand shall receive to themselves judgment.

There is no question that many of the people on the video on January 6th were resisting the power. The problem is the biggest offenders like the person who left a pipe bomb and Ray Epps are not being charged or convicted. Others like whoever killed the two people who died also have been totally ignored. Instead we are told that the most heinous and terrible criminals are grandmothers and grandfathers who have no criminal record, were waved into the capitol by the police and did not cause any damage. Their one crime being "trespassing" though it would appear from the very limited video we have been given that the police set them up. But what is the ordinance of God? Those in positions of power are held liable for how they handle crimes, especially murder.

3 For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. And wouldest thou have no fear of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise from the same:

Once again, this applies to everyone. Yesterday I saw a video of a Pfizer executive admitting on camera that he was violating US law and international law by promoting gain of function research while playing word games. He knew this was very harmful to Americans but didn't care because Pfizer was making money. Once he was exposed he went ballistic calling himself a liar and trying to destroy the evidence. Even this very powerful person was fearful of the powers that be.

4 for he is a minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is a minister of God, an avenger for wrath to him that doeth evil.

This word evil can refer to all crimes from trespassing to pipe bombs to murder. If these Jan 6th trespassers are receiving such harsh penalties imagine what the penalty for murder, pipe bombs or covering up these crimes or planning them will bring.

5 Wherefore ye must needs be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.

We should not simply fear to be in subjection so that we don't go to jail, but even more so that we don't offend the Lord Jesus. I believe these ones who went into the Congress building on Jan 6th were like Uzzah who had the audacity to think God needed his help to keep the ark of the Covenant from falling. The real crime is not trespassing, which is also what Uzzah did. The real crime was arrogance. If you want to be in the army of God you need to learn this lesson, Jesus is our Commander in Chief, you better be following His orders.

However, the real wrath of God is being stored up for a whole lot more who were involved that day and have yet been brought to justice. They will not escape the wrath of God.

You know how you avoid being treated harshly by the courts? You don't break the law

Also, being held accountable for attempting a violent insurrection is not being "treated harshly"
It's called Justice

But it's not justice when the "summer of love" crew got away with what they did. I still don't know if they found David Dorn's murderer. The Veep actually helped spring them from jail.

You mean the riots? Usually in a riot situation, they deploy national guard to protect high profile buildings like the courthouse
The cops are outnumbered so they usually just stand back and watch everyone destroy their own neighborhood

I wonder why "Epps" who was encouraging the mob was never charged?

Where is his justice?

Violent insurrection? You mean people invited in by security? You mean no one carrying weapons threatening the lives of government officials? If that was a rebellion, it was the lamest in history.

Problem here is that no rioters, no Jane's -- whatever they're called are being arrested for fire-bombing pro-life clinics. No antifa "demonstrators" are being arrested for assaulting police officers are trying to murder them in Portland. So, don't tell me you're about justice.

Jeffrey Epstein has been deceased since 2019 so unless you think his Ghost came back and did it, I don't see how you can tie him to it

Yes. FBI had evidence of conversations between these old keepers planning to violently reinstall Donald Trump as president
That's why one of them was holding a stash of weapons preparing for the next stage in their attempted insurrection
They thought Donald Trump was going to legally and state them as a militia

Tell that to the Chinese and the Russians. Tell that to John the Baptist, and the apostle Paul and Peter. Tell that to the 2,000 kids killed at the time of Jesus' birth. Tell that to all the martyrs throughout the last 2,000 years. Tell that to the woman arrested for praying in the UK. Tell that to the 13 million killed in the concentration camps WW2. The way to avoid being treated harshly by tyrants is to be a toady, but then you will be treated harshly at the judgement seat.

With what judgement we judge we shall be judged and as you have done to others it will be done to you.

I am not concerned about being treated harshly by criminal regimes. My concern is with the Lord's judgment.
