The Word has His own distinct identity as shown below.

John 5:23
So that all will honor the Son just as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

Common sense should tell you this: there WASN"T 2 Gods. John goes on to say (again) in vs 2 that he was WITH God.

He (Jesus) was with God in the beginning, however, eternity has no beginning and no end.

It is just another way of affirming the eternality of Christ Jesus.

God alone is eternal.

Common sense and logic should inform you of the only rational conclusion to draw from that -:)
