Right. Here is his Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1789 :

Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1789

By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor-- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be--That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks--for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation--for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war--for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed-- for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted--for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us. and also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions-- to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually--to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed--to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord-- To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us--and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

Go: Washington

This is am amazing testimony to the genuine faith of George Washington
That is one beautiful speech.

I love and value Washington’s service so much.

The USA isn't now, and never has been a Christian nation. At times it has had a higher proportion of people who hold values compatible with Christianity, and may even have had a higher proportion of actual Christians, but it has always been a secular nation.
Well said.

With all the events happening today, do you still believe America is a Christian nation? Biden now supports the LGBT, republicans want to cut benefits to the poor and middle class. Do you still think we are a Christian nation? So many time times in the 80's and 90's I heard Christian leaders calling America a Christian nation. I think that ship has sailed.
I still have hope for the USA, was land of the free, we are being robbed of that freedom slowly but surely. Does appear many are waking up to corruption at the highest levels of in power.

God said during the end times, they would try to drive Him out of everything, and their right on track.

They lowered the morals of the population to the point of not recognizing evil for what It is.

Father said we would enter in like the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, as a country, don’t think we are at that point. In the larger cities, there are sections that probably full blown Sodom and Gomorrah.

Many Christians just believe, they don’t know very much of what’s in the Bible. They follow the Ten Commandments the best they can and know that Jesus loves me. That’s not good enough.

Agree, thank you, to state the USA was always and is presently a "secular state" is to be ignorant of American history, Christianity was supported both in law and public culture, over time, there has been a movement to create a secular state.

Christianity as a belief system was woven into American life.

The higher courts have systematically, over time, decoupled American politics from the idea of a Christian civil society..

This is well documented in the case law.

Beautifully stated. And I am 100% confident the pendulum of life will swing back towards embracing Jesus Christ ~ His teachings and more importantly, His saving grace.

Our founding fathers provided for a staqted separate from religion yet provded for freedom of religion. Making the US a acountry that welcomed all faiths, not just Christian.
People are free to be of any belief to which they lean be it Christian, Moslem, Jew, agnostic, atheist.
The people who fled religious oppressions in Europe to come to the New World did not want the same oppression to survive to the Colonies.
The nation was never founded nor claimed to be exclusively Christian, and anyone teaching to the contrary is ignorant of these truths.

It was never a Christian nation. There is only one nation that had a covenant with God and it is not this one.

As individuals, we are responsible to God. Further, many who say they are a Christian, do not even understand what it means to actually be one. Toting a gun and yelling around about the constitution and wearing a cross, does NOT make a person a Christian.

note: I am not anti-gun and certainly not anti the constitution. Jesus is no longer on the cross.

Agree, and I am trying to be be hopeful, it is true history being cyclical, demonstrates over and over again how evil burns itself out over time.

It is just sad that some believers in the USA have been propagandized and now parrot the same lines of those who promote secularism ignorant of the historical documents and the historical-cultural-religious milieu of the USA.

Neither does judging millions of people you’ve never met, but you seem to excel in doing exactly that.

Not exclusively Christian, but primarily Christian. And look at the spiritual and social decline of America since the anti-Christian swine have ceased control.

The op is asking about the country...not individuals. I don't suppose you actually see the irony in your post either.

Just going to put you on ignore :giggle:

the Satanic World controls the Media. Nothing happens on PUBLIC BROADCAST that is not first OK'd by GREED and LUST.

when i was a young child growing up in Alabama who moved north to the Midwest of the USA, Billy Graham and GOD controlled CBS/NBC/ABC. whenever he preached, it was like the President giving a State of the Union Address. there was enough Citizen Interest that all Media Competitors wanted in on it. and Billy Graham's Broadcast would be Prime Time hours in the Evening, just after supper.

America, Today, as a WHOLE, is as far as Night from Day from the days of Billy Graham and GOD to what it is Currently.

i would say there was a period where the USA had a Right Standing with God.

Today, however, Ain't No way..

Revisiting this thread, I’ve come to a decision that I can’t call America a Christian nation, but God interject and intervene himself in the affairs of men.
