Would a protestant benefit from reading other denominations?

No harm in understanding how others think. If you're able to think critically for yourself and aren't easily fooled by crafty lies then go for it.

God actually does not allow me to read some books or watch or listen to some vids. God is very able to lead you to a ministry or ministries which will benefit you.

You should read the Bible through before looking around.

Well that is exactly the issue. The reason so many false teachers are flourishing is because too many Christians are not well-grounded in Bible Truth and Gospel Truth. So the first order of business should be a focus on Scripture itself. Even "The Bible Answer Man" went off the rails.

I am reading some secular books that I am finding helpful when I relate what they say to what scripture teaches. I think that it is true of anything we put in our minds, that we feed our minds, must agree with scripture.

I am reading Dc. Mike Dow, Daniel Amen, and "The Alexander Technique". What I find in each of these books is proof and praise for the teachings of our Lord.

The thing is there was never supposed to be different denominations that came about because people couldn’t agree on details of doctrine , much like you will find in this forum we can talk about basically any issue regarding the Bible and you’ll have several ideas about what the answer is

they couldn’t agree so they began forming sects of Christianity and called then denominations most know about the catholic Protestant wars but there have been violent clashes between many denominations of Christianity over the past two thousand years

which shows us the problem with denominations the gospel is about one family of God born in Christ by the one gospel , it’s about one body , one spirit , one faith , one baptism , one lord and God and father of all who’s spirit is in all who believe . It’s about one untied family God and all his chilidren in Christ

Catholics and Protestants went to violent war killing each other because they disagreed about Christian doctrine and who was “ the true one church “

each denomination believes they are the right one and by default the others all have something important all wrong and aren’t right . This has been Christianity and what we did to it we turned a beautiful single message meant for all
People and thier salvstion , this gift of one new humanity reborn of Gods holy spirit and called his children in the son


we made it a reason to argue and fight and condemn one another , to exclude and judge and accuse , to actually go to war and fight and kill each other in Jesus name because they are Protestant and we are catholic or we are Protestant and they are catholic because they are Baptist we are presbeterian

awe condemn and Rail against the other group of Christian’s because we don’t agree about whatever details we perceive when it’s all Meant to bring us together in one faith and belief and understanding of One God



Just go to the source brother forget reading different denominational takes and start by learning what Jesus had to say to believers for yourself , that will form an understanding in you without some interpretation first reshaping it thier own opinion

aid your serious in your inquiry start with the gospel of John read a chapter or so a day carefully d before you read so God to teach you about himself and when your done thank him , and then spend some time reflecting through each day on what you read

select a translation you can understand the language clearly and then I bet you find some new things you haven’t heard anyone talking about

I would also caution you in reading other peoples interpretations on this forum, to check it against what you think the scripture means. That includes myself also.

It really depends on you. What do you want out of it? Like if your study is in order to understand how Mormons and Catholics look at Christianity and what their core beliefs are, then you could read it. But I would say no if you don't have a strong foundation in the protestant Bible which omits the Apocryphal books which can be found in a Catholic Bible.

Also, the book of Mormon is not Biblical.

You need a strong foundation on what you believe before you can go venturing into another belief. Although knowledge is power, you have to make sure that you are clear on your belief as was taught to you by the Church. If you aren't strong in your faith, Don't think about it.

I think its beneficial to read the "church fathers", folks like Ploycarp, and Justin the Martyr. I think that reading stuff like, Law and Gospel by Walther, or the book of Concord by Melanchthon and Luther, are good as well. If one read the book of Concord, one would understand the reformation.
