no need to excuse. i listen to classical, big band, rock , rock & roll, soft rock, hard rock, heavy metal jazz, easy listening, top-40, country, gospel, modern christian music, marching music, swing, opera & broadway. no rap, latin or hip-hop. i am a drummer. i listen to hard rock & metal because those guys are amongst the most talented musicians in the world. i don't worship, support or praise the music, i just listen to it to hear the virtuosity & super talent that it is. for instance, it'll be a miracle if a drummer better than John Henry Bonham of Led Zeppelin comes along. this guy incorporated a jazz, swing, bluesy, triplet, heavy rock sound in his playing. he plays fills anywhere in the song. his playing is extremely dimensional & complicated. i was a drummer on a worship team & the leader didn't like me playing crossing hands & playing cymbals upside down. i was playing in the spirit & she didn't like it. for the time i was there the attendance increased greatly & she ruined it by trying to control people. after that, attendance decreased.

uh.....if you was playing in d spirit, you wouldn't be saying that it was because of your skills that people started to flock to the church. . just saying. and if people really and truly came just to see you play, then I don't think there was much anointing to it. The anointing is supposed to break the yoke not make one. I may be sounding rude rn but I hope that you would try to reevaluate what you just said and why am saying these things. The worship ministry is not a ministry to the people but to God. So if your ministry or skills are no longer drawing people close to Him but to you instead, there's something amiss.

I didn't mean to disrespect but more like to correct. After all, the bible speaks of wise people who should be fine with corrections so they'd be wiser. It's harder to deliver when typing. There's not much emotion put into it and can be read differently.

it's good that you play the drums. I really hope that whatever is in your hand, you would always bring back the glory to the One who gave it all for you. If the leader removed you because of the way you were playing, maybe you could've pondered a bit on why it was necessary that she tells you that. We all were different people than when we first entered the church, are we? (I hope there's a difference) So there are things that may seem right and okay with us that our leaders would contradict. And if it doesn't disobey the Word of God, I would always ask myself, why not obey? God would honor it and even if it hurts my pride, I know there is a blessing for those who honor their authority. After all, they were all appointed by God Himself. And if in any case, they make decisions that are not according to His will, He is more than able to correct what needs to be corrected. And it will be between Him and that person. My point is, wherever we are, we should learn how to be servants. Jesus teaches us about servant leadership. His life as a whole speaks of utmost humility. So, let's seek His grace that we may learn to humble ourselves in every way. I, myself, am a work in progress.

there's always someone in any band of the world who is more noticed than someone else. whether the person smiles more or plays well. just like a pretty girl in a band. just because there's a church band & there's an attractive girl on stage playing that doesn't mean men aren't going to look at her! to look at her in the proper way is totally acceptable to God. this is an example. i recieved a lot of compliments on my playing IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE BAND WAS DONE. i never said people came to see me play & not for church but if someone said, 'i want to go to that church because their drummer plays well & as long as that is secondary & preaching is 1st, that's not wrong. i brought people together in fellowship before, during & after the service. people noticed more of a union. totally, worship belongs to God. i never once thought that i was the center of attention. but know that there's always somebody in a band that's going to be more remembered than another. it has nothing to do with someone's individual attraction. blessings to you.

I like dance music
I dont play in worship team just sing. I dont dance in church because the music there isnt really dancy. I wish it was though. Ive never really been to a church where anyone danced, because everyone is sitting in rows and standing up behind chairs. Its kind of weird and Ive always thought dance can be a kind of worship but seems like older church people frown on dancing, like they dont know how to move.

Its not being judgy its just the way it seems to be. When I taught Bible in schools we always danced to our worship music. It was the most fun part of the session...getting into the spirit

Currently, my jam is pineapple. Gonna score a jar of raspberry jam next week. I like to mix it up.

My musical tastes are all over the place.

My first musical love was the Moody Blues. Then, I got into new wave in the mid-80s, say around 1984. To this day that is my top musical love. However, closely following this would be movie scores, what is unfortunately classified as "new age" music (I prefer to call it "space music"), belly dance music and traditional Asian folk music. Some of the stringed instrumentals are so melodic.

I like a little bit of everything. I have noticed that the older I get, the more I enjoy music without lyrics.

So... Music...

I'm a bit of a music nerd. Like, my friends know to never, ever bring up the topic around me. I can talk for hours about food, computers or chocolate. I can talk for DAYS STRAIGHT about music. Your eyes will glaze over, guaranteed. Do. Not. EVER. Ask me to recommend a song in a certain style or on a certain topic. More than a week later I'll still be saying, "Oh yeah, here's another song I thought of that might fit what you're looking for."

LISTENING: I have everything in my collection. It's all Christian, but it's everything from bluegrass banjo to rap, from black choir to Jamaican, from old quartets to heavy metal. I can guarantee I will be able to find something you like in my collection, as well as something that will get on your last ever-loving nerve.

SINGING: As my signature line says, I sing at church. I also sing at home. And in my car. And at work, at the supermarket, at Walmart... They do give me a microphone at church, although I don't know if they turn the volume way down on my mic. I'm afraid to ask. :p

MAKING:
I make soundtracks for songs I want to sing at church. Every church's piano player always has a very full plate, so it's just easier than asking them to squeeze in learning my song. I use Reaper digital audio workstation (cheerful name, I know... They had a contest and that name won. Very good program though.) I also use a lot of virtual instruments.
Here's a song by Carl Cartee, "Chasing After You."
Here's a soundtrack I made for that song:

Give it a chance until the chorus at least.
