I’m not a Christian, I’ve never been to church or had anything to do with any religion. But I keep thinking about God… And maybe it’s just because my life is hard right now.

**Please skip over this paragraph if reading about mental illness and death is disturbing for you**
I survived a nearly successful suicide attempt a few years ago and now the depression and bad thoughts are back. I’m providing 24/7 care to my severely disabled grandma. I’m exhausted all the time… Grandma keeps declining… I feel like I’m surrounded by death… and that’s probably feeding into my depression too. I haven’t left the house since October.

Anyway, for a couple of weeks I’ve been feeling a strong pull to learn about God. It’s kinda weird, maybe, because I don’t know that I even believe in God… yet the idea just keeps coming back. Can anyone relate to this feeling of being drawn to God? It’s really confusing because God stuff is completely foreign to me. And I don’t know what to do about it. So I joined this site hoping someone who does have a firm belief in God can give me some advice. If anyone could recommend bible passages that you find comfort in or that would be helpful for someone who knows nothing, I’d really appreciate it.

Yes, God does allow circumstances in our life to draw us to Him.
I prefer the KJV Bible if you can get one somehow.
If you are able to do skype, you can listen to encouraging ministries from the church here. They teach the Bible very well.
God bless and strengthen you. 🙏

Hello Lisa! Would you like to talk? I would love to share many verses with you and introduce you to God. What you are going through, all these hardships, are ways of God to call you that's why you feel the strong pull. I will share here some verses I hope would give you comfort.

Psalm 119:67,71,75-76 KJV
Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.

[71] It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

[75] I know, O Lord, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.

[76] Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.

Psalm 34:18 KJV
The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

He wants you to seek him and learn of him. If you feel that strong pull, then take advantage of it and ask God to teach you to do his will, to open your eyes to what he wants. He will hear you. He said, “Turn to me and I will heal your backslidings.” You only have to come to him just as you are and ask him for wisdom and he will teach you alone.

Proverbs 2:1-11,20-21 KJV
My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; [2] So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; [3] Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; [4] If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; [5] Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. [6] For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. [7] He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. [8] He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. [9] Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path. [10] When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; [11] Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: [20] That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous. [21] For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

If you'd like to talk, please let me know. I'd be happy to 😊

Thank you for being so open about the difficulties you are experiencing.

The sacrifices you are making on behalf of your Grandma are a reflection of the heart of God.

I have asked Him on your behalf to take care of you during these challenging times.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our lord Jesus christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, Who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

I am so glad you came, Lisa. You have come to the right place and are asking all the right questions.

Jesus made you in the hope that you would come to this point in your life and choose to follow Him. The sinfulness of man brought a curse upon the world, but Jesus died on the cross to make a way for you to come to Him. He loves you very much and wants to give you spiritual healing, peace, joy, and a home in Heaven with Himself and all of us who love you when you die (or He returns, whichever comes first.)

John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Revelation 3:20
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

You can come to Him right now. I pray that you chose to invite Him into your heart today. Come just as you are.

I say AMEN to all the above comments and also want you to know you're not the only one who will face challenges.
1 Peter 1:7 CEV. 'Your faith will be like gold that has been tested in a fire. And these trials will prove that your faith is worth much more than gold that can be destroyed. They will show that you will be given praise and honor and glory when Jesus Christ returns'.
Jer 17:7 '“Blessed [with spiritual security] is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the LORD And whose hope and confident expectation is the LORD', keep faith in the Word(God) and He'll do His part, He can't lie, God bless you😍🙏!

Hello lisa,

First I would like to welcome you to this forum, a lot of interesting people here it is a good place to learn and grow

You have been called by the lord, what you feel is legit, he wants you to learn about him. It happened to me when I was very young, I was aware then of a presence watching over me constantly, most strongly when i was doing a good deeds then i felt a very strong presence watching me. What you are doing with helping your grandmother is remarkable is is why you feel a calling. Yes the lord is calling you.

Also what you mention about depression and being tired is accurate, being tired all the time will feed your depression as long as you are aware you should be fine. . If someone could help you also even a few hours with your grandmother it would be ideal.

When I was around 16-18 I started reading the bible with the books of John, Matthew, Luke and Mark. These books about Chtist, what he did and said to us changed my life completely! I hope they will do the same for you. I urge you to start there with these 4 books.
If you do not have a bible, there is a free resource here is the link below, it is easy to navigate it if full of other resources as well such as commentary etc...

https://biblehub.com/nkjv/matthew/1.htm

These books and the knowledge within is more precious than gold. I am often on thus site if you have questions, I will try to answer the best I can.

Blessings to you and your grandmother.

Thank you for being so open. The Lord is definitely drawing you to Him.

I cannot say that you will instantaneously have your depression go away, but I do know that God loves YOU, and wants to be your Heavenly Father. And He will always do what’s best for His Children.

So here is how you can be born again, and become His daughter:

THE Gospel unto Salvation:
God wrapped Himself in human flesh in the form of His Son, Jesus the Messiah. Conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin. He suffered, was crucified, and died to pay OUR sin debt. He was raised to life from the grave to prove He had defeated death. If you confess Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that His Father resurrected Him to Life on the 3rd day, you WILL be saved. You will be filled, and sealed with the Holy Spirit, who will empower ALL to turn from their sins. The sin of adultery, lying, stealing, homosexuality, gossip, slander, drunkenness, covetousness, etc... And most importantly the sin of DEAD works, or a moral life to EARN Salvation. He will also
equip you to love like He did and do good works for HIS Glory.

Jesus tells us all that ...... i know your life is very difficult, and you've been carrying a heavy load, a heavy burden for a long time and you are tired.
Come to me......come to me.......Believe in me.... trust in me...... and i will give you peace and take that heavy burden from you, and your heart will be filled with Joy.

Welcome Lisa! Thank you so much for responding to His knock on the door of your heart.(y):) In my experience He really responds with blessing when we care for others as you do.
We are only here a while and then we go home to our reward.
