Also Paul condemns that stuff as well, saying, if there isnt a translator keep it to yourself.
I sat in a nondenom church one time where these three women sat in the middle of the church and raised their hands and blathered the entire sermon. It was very distracting and not one usher said a word to them.

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites …......That is the context of what Jesus was referring to.

If you notice in 1Cor_14 people are instructed (mostly for the purpose of understanding) to pray in tongues silently unless they are interpreting in a group meeting.

There are a few thing that changed after Pentecost from the gospel teachings. ….Forgiveness is one.

Forgiveness is not determined by forgiving others as the “Lords prayer” states. Forgiveness in this administration of grace is…. even as

Col 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Eph 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit. But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. 1 Cor 14:2
Praying in tongues is useful when praying for something when we don't have all the details, thew Holy Spirit hears it and knows the Heavenly language. Like anything else it can be abused.

If we are in Jesus Yeshua, and He is in our hearts, we are of One Body, not on a street corner praying for to be seen and heard.

Yup.. biblical tongues is an entirely different kettle of fish to what many practice today.

Im a cessationist, but if someone is going to practice tongues they should at least go according to the biblical practice.

Pagan religions have gibberish tongues.. and many believers unconsciously practice a very similar thing .

Acts 2... They are known languages to the hearers..

When Paul writes of speaking in the tongues of men and angels.. it's hyperbole.. exaggeration to make a point about tongues being inferior to the gifts of faith hope and love.

He writes of having faith to move a mountain..but that is hyperbole.. figurative.. therefore so is speaking in the tongues of angels.

Then you go to 1co 12 and see the guidelines for practicing tongues.. and who abides by them? I know none who do.

Unless, it is someone coming to God being Saved while others around are Worshiping God for what He's doing.

Jesus, never dealt with a situation like Peter did when 3,000 were saved and it appeared like a drunken barrage gone horrifically wrong. Pentecostal's would be more like Peter's style in the Book of Acts

44 While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word.
45 And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles.
46 For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared,
47 “Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

^
Hmmm, I guess Peter should have STOPPED them, according to Your Verses?
Or better yet, it's quite obvious you don't actually understand these Verses to even be connecting them to Jesus about Speaking in Tongues, when Jesus said:
15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons;
they will speak in new tongues;
^
Look at Verse 17 here: How will Anyone know these Signs if people have them and are hiding so no one knows they can Cast out Demons, Speak in New Tongues? Jesus just said in Verse 17: And these signs will accompany those who believe:

How you going to know that they Believe in Jesus IF THEY ARE HIDING??

Not a problem. These verses are simply admonitions to not be prideful and to let us know that God desires a personal and private relationship with Him as well as corporate worship. God knows the heart. Christianity is not a ritualistic list of do and don'ts.

There's only one real problem with tongues as it's practiced today. The gift of tongues is the gift of speaking in unknown human languages. People today don't speak unknown human languages but made up gibberish. No gift required, anyone can do it. It's foreign to the true gift of tongues. The fact that it's been accepted by so many, and continues, is a sad testament to the level of ignorance in the body of Christ.

The gift of tongues can be whatever God wants it to be and whenever God wants it be and wherever God wants it to be.

The entire thought stems from a misreading of a few passages. Its amazing how many people can be deceived in one form or another on the say so of one man. They gather a following and now its even harder for people unlearned to resist.

The old English seems to be a breach whereby you can deceive many people into belief of many false beliefs.

False belief system indeed, tongues in Corinthians is "lingua" >>>> languages.

Even with sound exegesis people still prefer the deception, it isn't even that difficult to see deception, but emotions tend to trump reason most of the time.

And for some, strongly held doctrines can trump the scriptures.

Agree, but not in this case, scripture is clear what is meant by "tongues" the word means known earthly languages spoken by people.

Are you sure that that is how the gift of SUPERNATURALLY speaking in a foreign language works? Here is what we actually see: And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue [LANGUAGE], wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues [LANGUAGES] the wonderful works of God.
(Acts 2:7-11).

Why did Paul insist that there be an interpreter for anyone attempting to speak a foreign language supernaturally? Because a strange language needs to be interpreted to make sense.

I see what you're driving at but let me look at it logically. Pentecostals pray in tongues without knowing it, I've heard the reports before. A speaker with the gift speaks in his own language, but hearers who know only another language as their own hear it in that one anyway, because of the Holy Spirit. Since no language is unknown to God, a prayer said in that context would still make perfect sense to all concerned.

paul in no way diminishes or condemns the gift of tongues hes the main one that taught that tongues is a gift of the Holy Ghost in the body of Christ

He also is thankful that he himself received the gift of tongues and spoke I. Tongues more than Any of them

all I mean to say is Paul was never dismissive of tongues he just gave an ordered account of how to operate with the gifts

tongues is an authentic designed gift of the Holy Ghost we shouldn’t make light or be dismissive of things we don’t fully comprehend tongues is clearly an important gift of the spirit in the church it could be that many don’t conplrehene it because they don’t have that particular gift not everyone receives each gift but we should never dismiss others who receive gifts we don’t or label them trouble makers and distractions it could be maybe there’s a lot we don’t fully comprehend

There is no gift of "hearing" in tongues, only speaking.
