Somehow I feel like this is a weird role reversal.

I do not consider myself to have endured anything really bad, but I have observed really bad things happening to people I know so I am aware that sometimes life just stinks.

The odds are pretty good that you have endured some things you consider really bad, but you argue that there is no time when bad just happens for no reason and life just stinks.

It's like looking at what I thought would be a painting and finding a mirror of what I would be if I were not me...
Life does sometimes stink, as you put it. But in the life of believers, God says He redeems it and makes it profitable. I didn't make the claim. God did. And I've seen it done incredibly in the lives of His people.

Hmm... "Obligation" could be debated. The bible DOES mention multiple times that God will hold us accountable for what we have done with what we have been given. However we do have free will - and freedom to suffer the consequences of our choices if we sit on the cards we don't like and refuse to play them.

Nothing ever happens "for no reason."

Are we still talking about this? I had no idea my simple statement would wreck people's theology in such a devastating manner.

Okay, fine. I left out the word "good." Sometimes bad happens for no good reason. Sometimes things happen for bad reasons. Like "Sin broke the world and now sometimes it doesn't work the way God designed it to work, so sometimes bad things happen because we live in a broken world."

How long have you and I been talking about this? My theology? No, it is not my theology.

Overcome Evil With Good: 10 Encouraging Bible Verses About Overcoming Evil With Good.

Do Not Be Overcome By Evil. Overcome Evil with Good!
Romans 12:21

1 Peter 3:9, NLT Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.

Romans 12:2, NLT Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

1 Peter 2:21, NLT For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.

Proverbs 20:22, ESV Do not say, “I will repay evil”; wait for the LORD, and he will deliver you.

Proverbs 24:29, NIV Do not say, “I’ll do to them as they have done to me; I’ll pay them back for what they did.”

1 Peter 3:9, NIV Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

Psalm 27:14, NIV Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

Romans 12:21, NLT Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.

Philippians 4:13, ESV I can do all things through him who strengthens me. (Amen!)

Yup. Also anger, rage and chaos.

So be careful what kind of music you listen to. And I don't even mean style. I've heard anger, rage and chaos in all kinds of musical styles.

The cat's posture indicates he is comfortable and has no reason to move right now.
Agree... was a perfect photo for the caption... Albeit, maybe it was a pregnant mama cat and she wasn't in a hurry to go anywhere anytime soon... ;)
