why cant you just have lots of christian friends? Why does there have to be the ONE. Why do people put all their faith into just one man or woman who is merely a man or woman, and not in Jesus?
Churches dont consist of just one person either....

Most retirement villages have christian fellowships amongst them where widowers and widowers get together and have fun times, and are companions with each other, or clubs or special interest groups. Or they have pets. I have never heard anyone who is part of these groups, who support each other, and hang out together then complain about not having any friends.
Hi Lanolin, the reason some folks look for companionship is not difficult to understand. Many can live happily being single, but some of look for 'love with some skin on it'. I don't know who said that but it understands those of us who like to cuddle up and hold hands. Hope that makes sense. Have a lovely day Lanolin

er...dont you have pets or family..
babies like to cuddle and toddlers need their hands held. They are sensory but by the time you are adult wouldnt you want your independence?

Love with 'skin' on it? Is this why skin colour is so important for some people? Just trying to understand.

Why dont we walk round naked . I heard the ancient Romans did this otherwise they would wear togas and live in cities with lots of people around. Well it might account for the naked ancient statues. That or the weather was warmer.

The way I see it, no shame in being single or yearning not be. I think whatever your status, try to enjoy what's right about it cause there are always pluses and minuses. I would love to have help with chores and errands, not to mention someone to laugh with. However, I do like not like having to share the remote or the covers, lol. The lack of snoring is awesome too. So yeah...whatever works for you, helps you get through this life in a way that pleases God and you...2 👍 👍 up!!

I’m 66 and have just experienced the end of a 4 year relationship. Prior to that I was married for 37 years.
I’m sad because I thought this was “the one”
Welcome to CC. :)

Do I dare ask...? :cautious:

If you thought the 4-year relationship was "the one" --- what exactly would you call the 37-year marriage?

Most tvs have many remotes you can never find, so maybe just have a tv that is so smart you can just tell it what to do and it will listen.

Have two blankets on the bed and a big enough sheet? Or maybe just two beds. I am sure once one person snores or starts talking in their sleep that would be annoying if you couldnt get any sleep.

Maybe it was the 'minus one'?

ok well...being number 2 or the second best friend has its consolations I guess.

I personally dont rank my friends I think its silly to do so. Maybe others do it but I always found it a bit troublesome if you do have more than one friend....

I lost my husband of 41 yrs to cancer
I don’t want to get mixed up in the confusing dating world. I have many non negotiables and feel like a dinosaur, lol. But, I would like to find a like minded Christian to spend the rest of my life with. If God doesn’t send that my way I will learn to accept and embrace it. What has been your experience as an older person?
I lost my husband of 41 yrs to cancer Oct of 2021. Still trying to cope with that. I can't even imagine dating again but I know one thing I want what God's wants for me.

if you are a young widow the Bible, urges you to marry again actually. Widows under 60 that is.

Thats what happened to Ruth. I think especially if you hadnt had children, as Ruth had not. Naomi was too old. But some may read that story as more the case of the interfering mother-in-law. Really it was Naomi who wanted to marry Boaz.

I've read the book of Ruth many times. I've never gotten the impression that Naomi desired a marital relationship with Boaz.

she complained she was too old to remarry. It was more about Naomi having her grandchild (and also vicariously having all the land that Boaz owned) through marriage from Ruth.

Naomi pushed Ruth into a relationship with Boaz pretty much.

Naomi was looking out for Ruth. She understood the culture and the law and fostered Ruth's highest good.
Boaz, as kinsman redeemer, was a picture of Jesus. She figuratively led Ruth to Christ.

mmm no Naomi was bitter.

I suppose you could read it that way but Boaz was a bit self-interested too, he wanted Ruth and told her to keep away from the other men ...then he got cold feet...

It's a love story. It depicts God's great love for His people and Christ for His bride. For sure there are many themes throughout but you have become a little too cynical.

lol

Ruth gave up her homeland to go with Naomi...thats the main theme 'where you go, I will go, where you are buried, I will be buried also' and she declared this even before she met or heard of Boaz.

No biblical story is about an individual. It's always about Christ.
