Hey Everyone,

Normally, a thread like this has to get to at least a few pages before the effect REALLY starts to kick in (because people will stop reading posts,) but let's see how far we can go.

Every now and then, I like to put up a thread to see how many people will read the OP before answering, and how many will answer after only reading the title. I understand that my posts are often too long for most to read, but that doesn't change the fact that the results are always fascinating to see.

Let's have a little fun and see what happens.

This thread is inspired by an issue of Country Living magazine, which I recently (as in yesterday) discovered that I had been reading for 4 months straight, but had never noticed their "Find The Horseshoe" Contest before. (Sometimes magazines have a "find this image" in each issue and you can either win prizes or just recognition for finding said items.)

I always have a split reaction when encountering these kinds of contests because I'm generally not competitive at all. This part of me will say, "Walk away Seoul, there's nothing to see here," while at the same time, my makeshift OCD automatically kicks and and says, "WHAT? A hidden image??? YOU ARE NOT PUTTING THIS DOWN UNTIL YOU FIND IT!"

Now I really do give it an honest-to-goodness try. Honest. I REALLY do. But if I can't find that dang-blasted image by the 3rd flip-through... Well, I'm neither happy nor proud to admit it, but yes... I am most likely to resort to cheating.

I start looking up answers either on the interwebs, other issues of the magazine that contain the key, or I bring out The Big Guns -- my Mom. Hey, I didn't give her the nickname "Eagle Eyes" for nothing. She once spotted an almost completely submerged alligator that was basking slightly above the water -- in pond. in the very far-off distance. while my Dad was driving us down a highway. And all because she knew I was wanting to see one.

When I asked her how in the world she spotted it, she just shrugged and said, "I picked out the shape of his snout."

And so, if there is a Hidden Image to be found, I am confident that out of all people, My Secret Weapon of Mass Inspection will be the one to find it. And NO, I've NEVER DARED to even so much as look at a "Where's Waldo" print long enough to be tempted. I KNOW even one run at those things would turn me into a hopeless cause, forever staring out onto the horizon, envisioning everything in red and white stripes.

And so, I am interested in our fellow audience here on CC.

How are YOU when it comes to:

* Video games?
* Rubik's Cube, The Missing Link, etc?
* Sudoko, Crossword puzzles, etc.?
* Jigsaw puzzles?
* Escape rooms?
* Anything that requires a special "key," "code," or "answer"?

If something absolutely stumps you, do you continue to 1. Work it out, 2. Give up, or 3. Resort to finding an answer somewhere else?!?

In other words...

* How Likely Are YOU to CHEAT? *

I'm looking forward to hearing your answers!

And, NO judgments here! I know all too well that sometimes we just need a little help. :)

I'm not big on those hidden picture puzzles, but I do play video games and some of them are really big on puzzles. :rolleyes: I'm only there for the story so the puzzles just get in my way. They are things to be removed from my path as quickly and easily as possible.

Thus I will give a puzzle in a game a cursory attempt. If it looks like something I will be able to figure out with enough effort I will probably try a bit more. But if I get just the slightest bit frustrated I'll NOPE out and go ask my friend Brother Google for the answer.

How dare you cheat!!

...on 'find the horseshoe' contests.

Yes, I read the post, long as it was :D, and I will say that I never cheat on these things. Want to be Godly and a light to the lost? Maintain a rock-solid integrity. That is something they notice.

Lol.

Well, when I cheat on these Find The Hidden Image contest, it's at home, by myself -- unless I have to call Mom and warn her of my next visit.

So I hope I'm not being a bad influence on anyone but my house plants. 🌿🌷🌻

I'm pretty bad with video games too. I have very deficient hand/eye coordination, so I don't even play.

But I do enjoy watching others on YouTube who have already solved all the puzzles and go on to Beat the Big Boss.

Definite kudos to you for stellar integrity! 👍🏼

I rarely play games. I do sometimes read ahead, or look up the ending of a movie which watching the movie sometimes. I consider that cheating.

Yeah, I completely agree regarding never cheating on anything that involves other people.

For me, it's things like brain teasers and puzzles that I'm trying to solve just for myself.

I know one thing. People are evil. We just are. I know there's plenty of people that say "I'd never do this or that" but you will. You would if conditions were right, if important things were on the line. You'd crumble like old china. I know I'd have the propensity to.

Then I can hear all the preacher Christians say "You just haven't found Jesus" but yeah I have. But the sin is still there. You trust yourself too much, preacher. You give yourself too much credit when the credit is God's through blood.

My daughter does that all the time. Then suddenly she is not watching the movie we decided we could
watch together. When I ask her why, she will say, this or that happens, or, I don't like the ending LOL.

No worries at all, Bees.

You made a great point.

If one is placed in dire enough situations, especially those threatening their life, well-being, or that of those they love, no one truly knows what they are really capable of.

Happy to see you back! 🥰

Well I mean... You kinda gotta. It can't be easy for someone that big to focus on a human's picture that small.

Now if you could get someone to blow them up to your size... But then you would very quickly run out of space to store all those godzilla proportioned pictures.

OUAT....I used to do these puzzles.
Then I figured out the scam and didn't bother with them. Many require a specific skill set like the ASVAB O's and C's counting.
Some are just ridiculous personality tests....like "What kind of vegetable are you?"

Today they are eye bait. Clever eye bait and click bait. It means that the AI is trying to lure you in. It isn't controlling you enough. It's stroking your ego just enough to make you want more.
Think of it as itching eyes instead of itching ears like Paul talked about with Timothy.
The REAL question is not how well you do on these "tests" or puzzles but whether you take them at all. It goes to your "consumer advertising score" which is then sold for a higher price as an advertising consumer. (Meaning you will react to good advertising)

If a service is free....you are the product they are selling. Facebook sells ads....tic toc sells all the information on your phone...
