I have a dual-boot on my workstation: Win 10 and Centos 8. Since Windows seems to be moving in a direction designed to give MS greater control of our files and work, I have that there as a back-up, but don't (currently) use it regularly.

I also have MacOS on my laptop, which is a Unix-based OS.

If you wanna live like the Amish go with Linux.
If you wanna live large then go with Windows.
If you want to put all of your data in a Microsoft jail - and, have every keystroke and action you take recorded - go with Windows.

If you want to retain control of your own data on your own computer - and, keep your personal business private - go with Linux.

These are important earthly matters.
We all have to decide what we would rather do/have - be 'free' or be a 'slave'...

Is there anyone here who has de- goobered their android based phone and been able to use it?
I've read that it can be done with various models, but that there's a chance of bricking it. The unlocked, linex/ or whatever new replacement platform ready for purchase are way too much $.

Are you saying that someone is selling [new] android based phones that are already "de-goobered"...? (only, at a high cost)

I just recently celebrated my 3 year anniversary of migrating from Windows to Mint Mate once they stopped supporting Win7. Bill Gates won't get any more money from me.

I also have Raspberry OS installed on my Raspberry Pi 4. It's... alright. If that is how Debian is normally, then I'm not too impressed. I used to have Ubuntu Mate on my Pi 3 but it wasn't stable. The new Ubuntu uses the lousy Gnome GUI, which I can't stand. It feels like a cross between a smartphone and a tech demo. No thanks.

When windows forces Windows 11, I might switch to Ubuntu or something. Windows 11 gives me bad vibes. I miss Win 7, and will soon miss Win 10 when it will be discontinued in 2025.

Seriously? You too?
But why are you a Linux user anyway? You wanna identify as Amish or what?

linux is surprisingly trouble free and it runs my old laptops. i have one at church that i use for my church duties and one at home i use for storing photos, videos and web searches. i still dont trust websites to be virus free so i only use my pc tower for gaming, youtube, skype and a few other trust worthy sites

I have so much to say.
First of all what’s with this old tired argument that Linux runs on old hardware? Don’t you have money to buy new hardware?
If you don’t, then become a Calvinist and upgrade yourself to a premium VIP member with a BIG wallet.

Secondly, Linux is like reading Egyptian hieroglyphs or koine Greek or Aramaic. You have no registry, no Dlls, no background processes and tasks. I mean why? It‘s 2023 already.

The other modern os which might be compatible with premium Calvinist members is the MacOS or iOS which I call the AngryBirds OS.
Looks great and cool but when you want to do serious work then you move onto windows.

So, consider all these things and become a Calvinist.

Calvinists don't use Linux. It's too self-determining. They use OpenServer. It is MUCH more predetermined.
