I didn't forget them. Being done away and ceasing aren't necessarily the same thing. I can have a toothache that may cease temporarily but return at some later point. If I go to the dentist and have it taken care of then the toothache will be done away with.

I've seen nothing that demonstrates supernatural sign gifts have not ceased and everything that demonstrates they have. I know, you have stories, personal experiences, and testimonies that say otherwise. That's fine, that's all you have.
I have the Bible.

Tongues, prophecy, and words of knowledge and wisdom will cease when "that which is perfect is come."

That hasn't happened yet.

I have a Bible too. The real question is: Is your doctrine sound? I don't think it is, and the empirical evidence backs me up.

I’d be careful about that direction with your thinking though . It seems to me that our God has a tendency to as scripture says

“God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭27‬-‭29‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Pretty sure there is a major theme in the Bible overall. God seems to pick the least likely by the world’s standards which is how we get Moses, Joseph,King David, and even into the NT times with the 12 disciples And against all odds in the world the successful formation of the early church.

Personal prophecy is not new! It was big over 40 years ago when I was a new Christian. I think it just depends upon what kind of churches you hang around in!
it's very charismatic! Even some Pentecostals don't like it!

I personally would get up & leave if someone tried to give me a personal prophecy. Although once, a long time ago at a Christian banquet, a very humble man did give my husband & I separate personal prophecies. They were very accurate! So it's not that it can't happen! It's just in this day of attractional churches & Christian superstars, of bad doctrine and confusion deceiving even the elect, I don't think God is going to use it much.

I've gotten so much more out of the regular discipline of prayer and daily Bible testing than I would out of some arrogant charismatic show!

God speaks to me in his Word. I can always know it is true, and follow it with all my heart. Not going to ever depend on some person to give me a word from God. There is only one intermediary, the man, Jesus Christ. I trust the Bible! It has never run me wrong, yet!

this is a big wow for me Angela.

I never expected this from yourself,

But anyhow it surprises me how you can say you don't think it's used that much for others when it's been used for your self

Yeah, we should be careful about the direction of our thinking, shouldn't we.
yeah well you accuse me of whispering about you when I knew fine well it annoyed you, which is why I said I didn't know what you get fun out of to somebody who had whispered spoke about you to me.

And really all I said was maybe you like to intellectually challenge people and made a joke about your username.

So you could read it 😉

But I was hoping you would finally tell me the reason for your username

And I was just guessing,

But if me guessing the reason for your username has offended you then I apologize

I have no choice but to whisper since our friend @ResidentAlien won't tell us the reason for his user name.

I found this.

If you’re a citizen of another country and you live and work in the United States, you may qualify as a resident alien.

There are two different ways to qualify as a resident alien in the U.S.:

  1. You pass the Green Card test
  2. You pass the substantial presence test
For the green card test, you’re considered a resident alien if you are legally living permanently in the United States as an immigrant. You have this status if you have an alien registration card, (known by you and I as a green card).

Pride, arrogance, unbelief, anything ( #384) that is not Galatians 5 attributes can widen the gap between us and active, vital, personal, relationship.

In Christ we are to live out being one in Him, merely knowing "about" Him or merely giving mental assent to "doctrine" misses the mark.(y):):coffee:

Did you read all of what I said? No!

I said "a humble man" gave us a personal prophecy. He was a logger in northern Canada. Then he worked as a prison guard after God saved him. If I told you his name, you would not know him. He was humble.

I walked away from personal prophecy when I saw arrogant & proud people dispensing it like bright lights at a concert. I saw them gaining the spot light, for being able to occasionally hit on the right combination of words.

That is not what my husband and I had! It was a humble man. We were both humbled by his words. I had dreams of grandeur, but what this man says cut that all away. My husband felt like he had been struck down. He was humbled.

When personal prophecy is given by a humble, unknown person, and it humbles the recipients, it is probably true! All else is posturing, and takes away God's glory!

If you want to be stripped down & humbled by God, ask for a personal prophecy. I know God will answer that prayer!

I read what you said (yes).

And what you write here would still make me ask you the same question.

Quite often people who do work for a fair price are quite humble,

At least I have always found.

People who act in loving friendly way way are often quite humble to.

À Stranger coming into your house to do some work will show more humbleness than he Ever does. Because the environment will allow it.

You'll both be invitational.

And you'll both want to show each other courtesy.

How ever that rule doesn't apply here in Christian chat.
Never hardly see a person apologising for there mistakes here.

I've seen it with one or two like Blain, but look how he got treated.

Yeah humbleness is a great way to say personal prophecy must be true for that instance (not).

In fact a humble man like Blain got provoked then his humbleness was set on fire

Expressing personal prophecy being true based upon a humbling experience, could be true because you felt moved by the holy spirit.

But was it your own emotions that moved you.

My thoughts would be quite often personal prophecy comes about when the holy spirit has been asked a question.

And the question is centred around something that will please God.

The answer can only be heard when the Person is in a state of relaxation and the question will only be answered if the persons intents from his heart is genuine.

The holy spirit will also answer the children who are distressed

Some questions won't be answered.

Because they where asked in error

I don't know whether are friend @ResidentAlien will remember or even respond as I've annoyed him.

But anyhow remember I said I also get inclinations about future events because I have dreams that come true all the time.

Well I asked why resident aliens posting on several threads that he has shown wanting Last week

I had a strong inclination about something about longing for the truth as to why he was posting debunking threads which was last week and I even posted he was longing for the truth last week

Just two days ago resident alien
Showed proof all his main source of postings when debunking have come from a person called longing for the truth on face book.

Personal prophecy is big these days. A so-called prophet gives you a prophecy that he or she claims is directly from the Lord and meant specifically for you. Does this have any authority in scripture or are these "prophets" little more than psychic advisers? Have you ever been given a personal prophecy? What happened as a result? If not, how would you feel or react is someone tried to give you a personal prophecy?
There are lots of examples of 'personal prophecy' in the Old Testament. Paul got one in the New Testament, also. Think about Samuel and Saul, Gad and David, Ahijah the Silonite prophesying to Jeroboam the son of Nebat, one of the sons of the prophet and Jehu. Think about Agabus and Paul. Some prophecies are directed at one individual.

As far as my personal experience with this, overall, I would say it is positive. Whether it is presented as a prophecy or something else, I cannot count the number of times someone who didn't know me told me that I was a teacher, had the gift of teaching, etc. I am a teacher both by gifting and secular profession. It occurred to me that that was amazing, that this happened so much, and I wasn't thinking much of it, so i realized I should appreciate it when God does that.

I remember relatively soon after moving to a foreign country, a visiting preacher prophesied over me after the meeting that God had brought me there. Then I went to another town and another preacher prophesied part of that probably word for word, that God had brought me there, but it added to make me a minister of the Gospel. That country is where I first started to teach in a public setting, minister behind the pulpit, etc.

I have witnessed personal prophecies that are incredibly detailed. My wife prophesies at times, and she's gone through seasons where she has gotten lots and lots of personal prophecies for people in a short period of time. She got word back from one man that she'd prophesied over maybe around 2006 or 2007. The man was a janitor, and he got a prophecy about doing ministry, training Christian leaders. Now, he is the head of a Christian ministry, a non-profit. He found her online and told her that what she had prophesied had come to pass. She's prophesied over strangers that have told her how what she was prophesying fit the details of her life. I have gotten what I consider words of knowledge, some of it in prayer. I'd pray for someone and start praying about details in their lives.... like praying for another car for someone I just met who had car problems.
I saw one guy who would prophesy in incredible detail and he would pray the same way. He prophesied about the summer camp one college student would be working at, and the cruise ship another one would be working at. He prophesied about my parents land for a new house which was what they had been talking about constantly, before they actually built on a plot of land with water on it. (His prayer mentioned or prophecy a 'water table on another plot of land'.)

On the other hand, one man I spoke with on the phone had some words for me. He said I could test his gift by asking three questions. Never witnessed that before. I didn't have a problem with it on a Biblical basis, though I know some people who believe in prophecy wouldn't be in favor of it. He started talking about seeing tattoos on my kids. Pretty sure that's not true. It doesn't fit at all. I asked about a business I was thinking of doing involving universities that I didn't need help from people from other universities for, as far as I can tell, and he said there would be people from certain universities that would help me... and if those were them, he got the university names wrong. It didn't make sense.I stopped after two A lot of what he said was really weird-- telling a woman to go somewhere to see the man she would have married if she hadn't met her husband. I was taking notes at first. We were on the phone. But it got weird. I didn't ask for the third thing.

Someone else described a vision with her commentary once that caused a bit of confusion and stress for me. She'd seemed to have been accurate. But this wasn't a 'Thus saith the Lord' type word, and a lot of her interpretation seemed to be involved.

Overall, my experience has been positive.

Yes, you're right; there are examples found in the scriptures. But how much of that is descriptive and how much is prescriptive? I'm just wondering if there's enough clear teaching in the New Testament to establish a sound doctrinal basis for the practice today. I agree it could happen, but does it, really?
It happens quite a bit.

I've also read a lot of 'rules' about it from Charismatics that I can't find justification for Biblically.

For example, some Charismatics will say that prophecies can't be directive or that they can't be directive unless they are 'confirmation', but a lot of prophecies in the Bible are directive, with no indication that they are 'confirmation.'

A lot of prophecies do seem to be 'confirmation'-- God is directing someone to do something and then a prophecy confirms the same thing. I heard of a fellow who was thinking about doing an evangelistic project in China, and he met this preacher with a reputation for being prophetic, for the first time. The guy grabs him by the shoulders and says in a thick southern accent, "China! China! China!" He knew he needed to get that China evangelistic trip together already, so I guess this was confirmation.

I Corinthians 14 is one of the few passages that tells us what to do in church. It's the longest one, unless you count chapter 11 which tells us how __not__ to have the Lord's Supper. I Corinthians 14 encourages prophesying, commands the church to let the prophets speak, and also says that you can all prophesy one by one. It certainly presents prophesying in church as a normal type thing.

There are some churches where people can speak a prophecy, from the floor, in the meeting, that allows this for tongues and interpretation also. In my experience, this usually happens toward the beginning of the meeting, between songs, maybe after between songs. There are other churches where it seems like almost all prophesying is personal prophecies. Some churches have 'personal prophecies' at an altar service.

Based on I Corinthians 14, and the fact that genuine prophecies edify, I believe we should have 'perosnal prophecies' given before all in church. It is edifying if they are genuine, and also it allow for 'prove all things' and 'let the other judge' to take place.
