These are really encouraging verses from the Apostle Paul because he gives us a great glimpse into what God has planned for us. We need to make the most of this short mortal life for sure to spread the good news and allow Jesus to shine through us to those who we interact with on a daily basis. However, we are moving towards something much bigger as you noted, brother.

This temporary dwelling place (our mortal bodies and minds) that are often filled with pain and weakness will be replaced by an imperishable body that will be raised in "power" and "glory". I suspect it will be very similar to Jesus' resurrected body when He appeared to His disciples on several occasions after His resurrection and before the ascension.

The resurrected Jesus was physical, yet He could hide His identity from His disciples. They could feel Him, He was able to enjoy some grilled fish with Peter and a few others, but He was also able to vanish and appear as needed, too.

I enjoy my life and the work I am doing currently for the Lord, but I can't wait to experience eternal life and what God has planned for us as His resurrected children and family!
amen a wonderful and edifying post total agreement what you wrote sounds a bit like 2 Peter chapter 3

“ I suspect it will be very similar to Jesus' resurrected body when He appeared to His disciples on several occasions after His resurrection and before the ascension.”

remember when Jesus appeared in glory on the Mount with Elijah and Moses ? I wonder if that’s a short description of what the heavenly body may appear like ? ?

“The resurrected Jesus was physical, yet He could hide His identity from His disciples. They could feel Him, He was able to enjoy some grilled fish with Peter and a few others, but He was also able to vanish and appear as needed, too.”

yes I think that a lot of people think as spirit as less than flesh but I see it as more than flesh meaning as your saying there many times in the ot spiritual visitors from heaven appeared as men they ate with Abraham , came into lots house , wrestled with Jacob until the break of day , ect ect

Always lovely and beneficial to interact with you brother God bless indeed

It's fascinating when the spiritual intersects and interacts with our finite world (I'm speaking about God and the good angels, of course, and not Satan and his clan--I want no part of that!!!).

Hebrews 13:2

King James Version

2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

I can't say that I have ever experienced this personally, at least that I know of, but I have heard credible stories about angels intervening to save people from drowning as one example I can remember. A witness asked the "man" who appeared out of nowhere how he saved the person, and he replied something to the effect, "we do this all the time."

The Road to Emmaus (Luke 24: 13-53) is one of my favorite stories in the Bible. A couple of disciples who I don't think we are introduced to up to this point are traveling to Emmaus, "seven miles from Jerusalem" (v. 13) and Jesus joins them for the walk,

16 But their eyes were holden [restrained] that they should not know him.

After a pretty intense conversation, the disciples asked Jesus to stay the night with them:

30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.

31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

The two stunned disciples head back to Jerusalem (probably running all the way!...) to connect with Peter and the gang.

36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them [apparently just appearing out of the blue!], and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.

38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

Yes, it was Jesus in his resurrected physical body, yet he also had the power to appear and vanish at will. He even enjoys a meal with them...

40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.

41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?

42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.

43 And he took it, and did eat before them.

What a remarkable interaction from a God who loves His disciples in a personal and intimate way.

While we have a different type of relationship with Jesus Christ today that is spiritual in nature as our risen Lord, He is still present and with us every step of the way.

On this 4th of July, I am celebrating my independence from Satan, the evil in this world, and my own sinfulness (my biggest foe for sure). Freedom in Christ is the best freedom there is by far although I certainly appreciate the freedoms we enjoy in our United States as well.

Happy 4th of July to all--no matter where you reside on this planet. True freedom is a gift from God that all nations can celebrate on this day!

It’s pretty amazing in my mind also remember when the donkey was warned of the angel ? And then rebuked his owner ? God does work in mysterious ways indeed but always amazing and good ways heaven and earth I don’t believe we’re meant to be seperated as they are

Amen Pilgrim! There will come a point in time where there will no longer be that separation between heaven and earth.
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth:

for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21:1-7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: and they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭22:1-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar.

….And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this? Then he brought me, and caused me to return to the brink of the river. Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other. Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed.

And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh.

And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.”

The spirit comes down from the Father... a separate powerful force, mysterious. Your flesh, my flesh, is what it is. These are two completely different things: me/you AND God's gifted spirit for humans. There's HUMAN and there's HUMAN + God's Spirit.

‭‭Luke‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭1:4-5

a few days later

“And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

( now that Jesus has shed forth the holt ghost into the world what do we do ?)

Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,

and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”

They explain themselves if we don’t interpret everything away it’s simplicity just hearing and believing not explaining other things that aren’t there

God sent prophets, teachers, preachers, messengers and gave them AUTHORITY (independent specialised understanding) and everyone else was either saved or lost according to whether they submitted (OBEYED without question) those messengers! You think any person can pick up the Bible and understand? No they cannot! This is obvious.

lol yeah it’s not like we receive Gods holy spirit who authored salvation to live in us and fellowship with us and teach us the truth or anything . It’s not as if Jesus is with each believer or anything g like that …….

“But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭2:27‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:25-26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

rhe problem is false teachers tell people Jesus words aren’t for them sonthey never understand this stuff

“if so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:21-24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

that makes no sense because they haven’t heard what Jesus taught because they are told “ it’s not for you listen to me I’m a prophet “ it’s silly to look for someone who knows Jesus or can hear his word of your a Christian who receives his spirit …….but then again you are talking about an entirely different gospel than what Jesus preached and said will save people so I’m not shocked we disagree

Okay so Jesus is the final teacher! Then God gives his spirit to give understanding of what? Of the teachings of Jesus. So we are never free of an authoritative teacher, one sent by God. Jesus was the one to obey without question. Are there many Jesus’s, no! But are there many interpretations of his words? yes! But even Paul said there was ONE truth, and Jesus spoke simple words. Jesus predicted his words would be misunderstood and twisted. Christianity is a pagan religion, though Jesus’ teachings remain true.

How can a person know what Jesus actually said? How can they understand his actual meaning? God decides!

“Okay so Jesus is the final teacher! Then God gives his spirit to give understanding of what? “

of course Jesus is the final word if you would just read John 14-17 you would understand a lot of it .

The holy spirit is the spirit of Jesus who walked and taught and preached the gospel throughout isreal.

“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts crying, Abba, Father.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The same Jesus who walked on earth with men and women taught them healed them suffered and died for them rose up from the grave and ascended to heaven where he sent his spirit o to the hearts of anyone and everyone that hears and believes the gospel that Jesus preached and lived and died and rose for

you receive jesus spirit the spirit of gods son it’s why he says clearly the answer to your question

“Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:23-26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Jesus chose witnesses of his life and death and resurrection to go preach the gospel to all the world and he told them “ wait until you receive the holy spirit then you’ll have power and be my witnesses to all the earth these men wrote the Bible we all believe

So you have this part that is the role of the apostles to take from what Jesus said and reveal it tonus more plainly not change or deny anything but help us understand it as a group a church hat didn’t walk and talk with him as they did

I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”
‭‭John‬ ‭16:12-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

That’s the apostles role to witness the same gospel to all people and to take what Jesus spoke to them in parable and mysterious words and make it plainly known and understood to th e people aa

Paul’s place in things is here

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: by whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:1, 3-6‬ ‭

Paul agreed with everything Jesus taught including baptism Jesus said this

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;

but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Paul’s role being later chosen as an apostle was the to explain what baptism means and how it applies Jesus said “believe the gospel and get baptized and be saved

paul and the apostles role was to by the Holy Spirit of Christ Jesus promised by Jesus explain how baptism works and why it’s important like this

“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬
( read through chapter 8 of o retested in what baptism means and why it’s important )

or another place to look

buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2:12-13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Or another

“For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:27‬ ‭KJV‬‬

That’s why he sent the apostles and filled them with his spirit that’s thoer role Jesus preached the gospel and they further reveal and explain what he established

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:31-32, 34, 36‬ ‭KJV‬‬

jesus said that Paul later is speaking to people who had been taught that so he speaks ot this way

“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey;

whether of sin unto death,

or of obedience unto righteousness?

But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:16-18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

God sent the apostles tomoresch the gospel Paul is a revelator of things Jesus had already eerablished but hadn’t explained paul and the apostles role is here taking Jesus words and making them more revealed

“I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. “

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,

and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
What a tremendous gift this is for sure! Life is incomplete without the "Holy Ghost", and God's Spirit will guide us into all truth. It's not like the Spirit controls our lives. It is a gift that empowers us to fulfill God's will.

One of my missionary friends told me a few years ago that the Spirit was prompting her to move her ministry efforts from Uganda to Kenya. I asked her, how do you know this is what God desires for you? She answered something to the effect of how she felt peace over this transition.

Doors were closing in Uganda (due to a lot of corruption in that country at that time), yet doors were opening in Kenya. It's not like the Spirit outright told her, "Go to Kenya!" It was those still quiet waters working within her providing a sense of confidence and tranquility that God was moving her mission work to a whole new level where there was fertile ground and willing souls!

“It's not like the Spirit controls our lives. It is a gift that empowers us to fulfill God's will.”

right we have to yield to and follow his spirit we receive through the gospel

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:63‬ ‭KJV‬‬

If we do follow the spirit it leads here

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:1, 5-6, 9, 11-14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We receive his spirit but he isn’t a dictator that forces us to heed his word and obey he gives us the strength and ability to begin to choose to good so we are t stuck here anymore

“For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. but I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭7:18-21, 23-24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It’s like we’re trapped in a snare and as we hears the gospel it frees us by making us aware of the truth

“And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2:24-26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Your right on the spirit is making us partakers of the divine nature and equipping us to overcome only by believing in Christ through the true gospel

“Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, according as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: for so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1:1-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Amen, brother. Great thoughts in this posting! Too many people have the wrong idea that our God is a fear-and-obey dictator for sure.

Jesus, the Gospel, and the outpouring of His Spirit to those who desire it show God's true nature of grace and love. Sure, He can kick some butt as needed, but He prefers to have a Father/child type of relationship with all of us.

amen If you look at his doctrine for instance when he’s teaching about repentance look at how he explains it to the hearer

“And he said, A certain man had two sons: and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

( he’s made all the wrong choices hits rock bottom and remembers home )

And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, and am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

( he has come to repentance )

And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

( he’s still along way from home but his father sees him and runs to him with nothing but compassion and love )

And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: and bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭15:11-24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

notice the son is more occupied with what he planned to say” im a sinner I’m so sorry I’m I worthy can I please just live here with your servants dad ?”

But the father isn’t even acknolwedgong or paying attention he’s too busy rejoicing and telling his servants to get his son dressed and get the family ring back on him . The fether is just overwhelmed wit joy that his son returned he’s not thinking about why he left or what he’s done wrong along the way nothing but love

the father was waiting all the while watching g and hoping for his son to return God certainly loves us one couldn’t hear much of the gospel and think others wise one of Jesus main points was

“And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭23:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“for the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.”
‭‭John‬ ‭16:27‬ ‭

“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

jesus words are just lovely and so important to know who we are in him
