The term "immortal" has been wrongly applied to souls and spirits for a long time. The correct term would be "imperishable".
No, that is not the correct term.

...and I'm curious what you think the difference is between immortal and imperishible.

No, that is not the correct term.
Why not? Souls and spirits never cease to exist. That is the testimony of Scripture.

I already explained it. It is bodies -- physical bodies -- which are either mortal or immortal. And I gave you the Scripture.

The term "mortality rate" is used in the insurance industry. What does it mean? "Mortality rate is typically expressed in units of deaths per 1,000 individuals per year "... "A mortality rate is a measure of the frequency of occurrence of death in a defined population during a specified interval." Why? because it is bodies which die. Souls and spirits continue to exist -- either in Heaven or in Hades.

Since angels are SPIRIT BEINGS the question of immortality is moot.

Mortality and immortality apply to the physical body, not the soul and spirit. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. (Rom 8:11)

The term "immortal" has been wrongly applied to souls and spirits for a long time. The correct term would be "imperishable".
Interesting.

I need to think.

Ezek 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins shall die.

Ezek 18:20 The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.

Matt 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell

I already explained it. It is bodies -- physical bodies -- which are either mortal or immortal. And I gave you the Scripture.
We (all parts of us) are currently mortal.

No, PEOPLE die. People do not separate into different parts at death, with some parts living and other parts dying.

I think most Christians are confused about death. If death is a separation, it's a separation from life. Death is the end of life. It IS a temporal end of existence. No human is immortal yet except for the Lord Jesus Christ, who God raised from the dead. He is the firstfruits, the rest will follow when he returns. That is when the dead in Christ will be raised from the dead, and living Christians changed (made immortal). The unsaved who have died will be raised at the white throne judgment, judged, and then die the second death, which will be permanent.
Where do you get the idea that death is the end of existence?

God warned Adam that should he eat from the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil, he would surely die. Adam died, but spiritually, not physically. His soul did not die either. So death is not the end of existence. Jesus showed this in the parable of Lazarus and the rich man. We are all born dead in trespass and sin, yet we exist.

Those who are born again have eternal life right now. The new spirit we receive is "of Christ". If Jesus can cease to exist, so can I. It is as simple as that.

Thursday 7-6-23 5th. Day Of The Weekly Cycle, Tammuz 17 5783, 16th. Summer Day

Hello, I have been thinking about the OP and the different posts, but have not received any revelation on what Jesus was talking about to Nicodemus. But I'm glad to have an understanding of these views on this thread and more on other site forums.

I was looking at: It is by scripture we as Christians are not Born Again until we are caught up to be with Christ 1 Thessalonians 4:17, and 1 Corinthians 15:51-58

But here are some views from Bing:
In Christianity, being born again means having a spiritual renewal or change of heart by accepting Jesus as the Savior and Lord. It is not about physical birth or external requirements, but about receiving salvation and becoming part of God’s family1.

The phrase “born again” is frequently misinterpreted. Looking at its primary reference, we see that its meaning is not about physical birth, but about experiencing a spiritual renewal. It is an expression used by many Protestants to define the moment or process of fully accepting faith in Jesus Christ. It is an experience when the teachings of Christianity and Jesus become real, and the “born again” acquire a personal relationship with God2.

Also, we will be in prayer about this process.

Bible Gateway passage: John 3:3-8, Colossians 1:15-18, Romans 8:29, Revelation 1:5, 1 Corinthians 15:50, Galatians 4:26, 2 John 1, 2 John 13, Revelation 12:1-5, Hebrews 12:23, Malachi 3:1 - King James Version

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say...

Some say born again can have a double meaning as born from above or born a second time. This is where Nic had a hard time for all he understood was the natural but Christ was talking things of the spirit. We can get lost here knowing with out faith we can never please Him. Him who calls things that be not as though they were. We can read OT "And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you " "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. " Are we working for this gift or did that happen when He made that new spirit? To dive deeper.. when Christ died did we? When Christ rose AMEN did we? That new spirit that cannot sin. Paul said its no longer I that but sin that is in me. We put on the new man which after God "is" not will be or going to be but "is" created in righteousness and true holiness. I can't set in heavenly places if I have not been born from above. I cannot come boldly before Him if I have not been born anew, regenerated, born again.

So all this is what read and believe. When did I :) put on "Immortality"? The moment I repented and just believed. For that I can not praise Him thank Him enough.

Immortality is a physical quality, it is what we can have with new bodies in the resurrection. It is provided through Christ. In Christ we already have everlasting life, which we always have from now on. The false believers, who have not come to repentance really, do not have that. Being born again in the biblical passages mentioning that is about being spiritually born, believers are spiritually new with the Holy Spirit of God then dwelling with them.

A person is reborn when they are led of the Spirit which a Spirit led life will not fulfil the lusts of the flesh for they have crucified the flesh with the affection, and lusts, and show the ways of the Spirit, and not the flesh.

Which then the kingdom of God is within them as they show the ways of the kingdom of God on Earth.

But the Bible says that some have a form of godliness, but deny being led of the Spirit, and are ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth, which they are lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God so the kingdom of God is not within them, and they are hypocrites enjoying sin and led by the flesh.

Which God said in a great house there are some to honor, and some to dishonor, so there will be some rascals running around the Church, but God said if they do right then they will be a vessel unto honor.

To be absent is to be present with the Lord so when you are with Jesus then you have immortality in reality, but if you are led of the Spirit you have immortality awaiting you.

there’s a promise that if we persevere in faith we will lost mortality and be clothed with immortality as the dead are raised in the end of the world

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:51-55‬ ‭

We are of faith faith hears and believes what God said but we have to understand it’s something that’s going to later be fulfilled according to his plan in the gospel like gods words always have come to pass on due time

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

a just a quick thought of this if we hadn’t heard Jesus tell us belief in him is eternal life no one could believe that no one would have that faith God has to say something and we have to hear it innorder for us to expect and accept it is the idea faith is based only on the promises Jesus made his disciples that’s the source of faith

why I’m saying this is to make the point salvstion is a promise that we believe we’re going to receive if we remain with the lord in faith . The confusion of this is because we know Gods promise is sure the check is already in the mail we know God doesn’t lie so we know if we stick with Jesus and follow after our lord we are certainly going to be saved in the end made immortal at the coming of Christ that is our hope

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:1-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

See it says there we’ve already died and are risen but obviously we’re all alive still it’s speaking by faith regarding baptism into Christs death (Roman’s chapter 6 ) he’s saying we died and are raised with Christ because

“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: ( you died ) that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”( your new life is on Christ now )
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:3-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

see this is doctrine it isnt telling us natural things but spiritual things though physically we haven’t died and rose we aren’t physically made immortal yet we haven’t actually been saved yet but we have faith that promise of Jesus that we shall be saved if we believe

Salvstion is a promise of faith dorectly from God to mankind in the gospel it sounds confusing but remember faith speaks as though it has already received the thing it is seeking

so if we seek salvation we speak by faith as if we’ve received already but this shouldn’t be construed into what it’s not also very true and relevant is what happens if we don’t repent and start following the lord

that promise is there also so we can’t construe it into some unconditional already completed thing we have to persevere in faith and we know that it’s absolute we shall in the end be saved if we don’t turn back from the lord

when jesus returns mortality ends and immortality begins but as of now we do have his absolutely sure word of these things that is the structure of our faith

Your premise is incorrect. Becoming immortal and being born again are two different things and happen at two different times: they are not synonymous terms.

You become saved upon belief and baptism into the body of Christ, having been saved from your past sins. Being then faithful and remaining faithful unto death, and upon death, is when eternity begins for you.

But the greatest question is if Jesus meant born again why didnt he mention it again or the Apostles, or their disciples, or the church for the next 1900 years???
Because Christ did not need to repeat Himself. Don't forget that He was teaching the apostles whatever they needed to know for 40 days before His ascension. Then later He came to Paul personally and also taught Him much. They all knew what He said about the New Birth. So you will find the New Birth mentioned and also explained in the epistles.

Nehemiah 6 is so wise. Nicodemus was already a believer---

Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicode′mus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus[a] by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him.”

your question is not grammatically structured properly. a Christian can not become born again because a Christian IS ALREADY born again. 1st, you become born again, then you are a Christian.. when someone says "the sinners prayer" & truly believes in God, Jesus & the Holy Spirit, then you become Christian at that moment.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father. John 14:12

Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness to me; John 10:25

It is people like yourself that keeps many from being saved

No such thing as "sinners prayer" in the Bible. Its man contrived nonsense that does nothing for the one that recites it. It cannot and does not save.

i didn't say it does save. God;s grace saves us. i put sinners in quotation marks because it's what a lot of people refer it to. Romans 10:9 is probably the best verse explaining "confess with your mouth". i probably could have explained it clearer but sometimes i try to type as little as possible because my hands are too big.

For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God (1 Peter 1:23) :)
