Im a cessationist, but if someone is going to practice tongues they should at least go according to the biblical practice.

Pagan religions have gibberish tongues.. and many believers unconsciously practice a very similar thing .

Acts 2... They are known languages to the hearers..

When Paul writes of speaking in the tongues of men and angels.. it's hyperbole.. exaggeration to make a point about tongues being inferior to the gifts of faith hope and love.

He writes of having faith to move a mountain..but that is hyperbole.. figurative.. therefore so is speaking in the tongues of angels.

Then you go to 1co 12 and see the guidelines for practicing tongues.. and who abides by them? I know none who do.

You make several good points. However, most people fail to understand that “speaking in tongues” was a New Testament practice lasting only until the perfect word of God was complete and delivered to the saints. I Corinthians 13 says that “where there are tongues, they shall cease”…when that which is perfect is come. I realize that many believe that the word “perfect” is referring to Christ but the Bible explains itself in James 1:25 when it talks about the PERFECT law of liberty and Roman’s 12:2 the PERFECT will of God. Both passages clearly talking about God’s word—the Bible. Also, the word “perfect” is not capitalized, which it would be if it was referring to Christ. An interesting study is to look at all of the words that describe or are used for Christ—they are all capitalized. Here are some examples:

Acts 1:4- the word Promise is referring to the Holy Spirit and is capitalized; all pronouns referring to Christ are capitalized Isaiah 49:7, the word “One” Hebrews 3:3 and Ephesians 1:7, Romans 5:17, “Servant” in Isaiah 53:11,, Revelation 12 the word “Child”; and James 4:12 the word “Lawgiver” is referring to Christ and is capitalized. Also Prince of Peace, Star, Offspring of David, “Root” and “Scepter” Numbers 24:17., Revelation 22:16.
Every reference to Jesus in both the old and New Testament that I have been able to find is capitalized. I think that makes the fact that 1 Corinthians 13:10, the word “perfect” is NOT capitalized, significant. This is not referring to Jesus and his 2nd coming. This is talking about when we finally have the “perfect” will of God available to us. James 1:25 and Romans 12:2. Tongues have ceased. Whatever men claim to do today is not the “tongues” that were given by the Holy Spirit in New Testament times.

I believe as you do. The process of God inspiring the scriptures, death of the apostles and destruction of the temple all led to at least the sign gifts being put away

Isn't prayer and focus on Christ
Better than the secular insanity ?

Is it possible that Pentacostals are not all misled but just praying differently.

Though I agree 1000% that if one prays in that way, its essential that it is done privately. As most prayers should be
