how do you know they are "male and female sharing the same body"??? Does the one with the more feminine haircut have XX chromosomes and the one with the more masculine haircut have XY chromosomes?
From Healthline:
Conjoined twins are the result of a monozygotic twin pregnancy (identical twin pregnancy) that comes from the fertilization of just one egg.
From National Institutes of Health - National Library of Medicine:
Conjoined twins are monochorionic (one placenta) and monoamniotic (one amniotic sac). This condition is proposed to have resulted from either fission or fusion.
From CNN:
Conjoined twins are identical - they are the same sex.
According to the Mayo Clinic, conjoined twins may be joined at any of these areas: chest, abdomen, spine, pelvis, trunk or head.
Scientists believe that conjoined twins develop from a single fertilized egg that fails to separate completely as it divides.
If conjoined twin birth is the result of an identical twin pregnancy, the chromosomes will be either XY or XX in both twins.
If conjoined twin birth is the result of the fusion of two embryos ... i.e. not identical ... which I cannot imagine how the two can fuse together inasmuch there are two eggs impregnated by two sperm and each embryo forms in his or her own amniotic sac ... so there would be two sacs an embryo would have to pass through in order to fuse to the other embryo in the other embryo's own sac.
Seems to me, if the twins can be separated they should be classified according to their chromosomes ... if XY, then male ... if XX, then female.
... just my 5¢ (up from 2¢ due to inflation).
Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
