I know one thing for sure: in the US, the working poor have it worse than anyone. They make too much to qualify for any benefits; but they don't make enough to survive hardly. And heaven help them if they incur any medical bills. There are definitely people who have made a profession out of being poor. I don't really like it but I can understand why some of them do it. It's a complicated mess.

It is not that we do not see it, but we are too poor ourselves to help.
One might think you do not see the many that are just lazy and work the system which takes from the truly needy.
Those would be the ones I do not want to see, so in that regard you have some reason.

My reference is not to alllpeople, they know when they see what I posst, please do not take offence. I am looking out for everyone, but I do not overlook these mentioned, it would be impossible , and a sin.

there are poor everywhere the ones who everyone just walks by and pretends not to see.
"there are poor everywhere"

Really...in modern day America?

we see that person who’s obviously in need and we have plenty it’s easy for us to pass on by like the priests in the parable just look the other way and go on with our “ blessed lives “
Are you seriously comparing the modern American poor to the parable of the Good Samaritan?!

The poor are those who don’t have what they need
Wrong.
In America those who do not have what they need are those who do not want what they need.

Let that soak in.

Obesity in the poor is usually due toa very poor diet, usually due toa lack of means. Lots ofcrbs, littlle valuale proteing. It sounds as if some here see and hear only what they want to hear.

Believe me, there a tens of thousands falling through those so-called welfare systems' cracks.
This cost $1.79 per package

This cost $1.09 per pound

Both can be purchased with "food stamps" at the same store.

Do not insult my intelligence.

Those who fall through the "cracks" are those who are making the "cracks".

I think knowing what Poor in Scripture means may help

Strong's Concordance
ptóchos: (of one who crouches and cowers, hence) beggarly, poor

Definition: (of one who crouches and cowers, hence) beggarly, poor
Usage: poor, destitute, spiritually poor, either in a good sense (humble devout persons) or bad.

HELPS Word-studies
4434 ptōxós (from ptōssō, "to crouch or cower like a beggar") – properly, bent over; (figuratively) deeply destitute, completely lacking resources (earthly wealth) – i.e. helpless as a beggar. 4434 (ptōxós) relates to "the pauper rather than the mere peasant, the extreme opposite of the rich"

The Homeless would definitely make the cut -----

Okay...but what about the question.

Are you implying that American "widows and orphans, and those upon whom outrageous misfortune has befallen" are the same as the poor mentioned in the Bible?

Simple question, simple answer requested.
Why would geography change anything? Why would general wealth of a culture change anything?
You dont think abject poverty exists in america? You would be wrong. You dont think the widow of the blue collar man in America could possibly struggle to keep a roof over her head and food on a table, simply because america? Or that people who lose their home and all possessions in hurricanes and fire and all manor of ill fortune qualify as the poor according to scripture simply because america? Get off the gas man. America is nothing more than babylon. The "dream of america" is a myth. People fall between the cracks in america because those cracks can swallow towns and cities.

You think those folks in Hawaii, who lost everything including their jobs due to fires created those cracks? We have no more conversation. Good riddance.

True point. Our economy is so wrecked that inflation has pushed working class in to survival mode. Working to get by is a tough place to be.

Are you ashamed that there are poor living under bridges, in parks, and camps , even in sewers. Keep looking for fault in the helpless.

Are those labeled poor by modern American standards the same as the poor spoken of in the Bible?
No matter what our earthly station and/or status in life we are all required to know the Savior and give Him unction to work through us.
David Barton, in this video, "Forgotten History", teaches on how different and blessed America is , and they have over 100K original documents from that time. I have copied at a point very close where he shares his experience of having stayed in a 4 star hotel in Europe that had no internet, Motel 6 in America has internet.

If the poor are homeless, it makes little difference now or then.

If they're poor I understand what you are saying. They get government help, free food, home, etc.

The thing about it is that they're still "poor" as it's not a lifestyle you would enjoy to live. The kids have video games bc it's easy to pack up and move with them. They never go outside bc they'll get beat up. The rape and abuse are through the roof. Drugs are everywhere. Families are split apart. They still need help. It's not always about just throwing money at someone.

we must focus on the eternal goal, keep the eye on the prize, when we do He promises to provide for us, we must "stay in Him", mere mental assent to His existence doesn't reach this place.:)

The vast majority of American poor either own a car or have easy access to one, the rest have the use of subsidized public transportation.

The government hands out free cell phones for the American poor and pays the monthly bill as well.

Obesity is rampant among the American poor not hunger.

It takes little effort to verify these facts.

If a person seeks diligently enough, he will discover evil. However if he looks and sees with the heart, he will find the good.
I have always been aware of welfare cheats, but my heart tells me to pay my taxes with joy for at least some of it will go to help the truly needy. I do know, again by my own experience, that there are many who receive nothing much of the time.
I am very grateful for having received free milk in school as a child. This was because my teacher saw that I usually had no lunch, not a program per se, just something my particular school did. This was in the day when even the small milk came in small glass bottles, so you count the time back.
Stop seeking the evil and seek to see with the heart, I guarantee you will find good. Learn to over lookthe evil for our time to judge to damnation is not come

PS, we are addressing helping widows and orphans i their affliction, not the spiritually poor.
