great passage.
Paul also wrote

1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
Romans 4:1-8

Did you ever play by the clock? That puts a lot of pressure on.
No, I have never played by the clock but I first learned how when I was about 14. Played hundreds of games against many opponents. Probably won close to 60% of the games that I played. Chess was designed as a game of war, with the board being the battlefield space and time the number of moves to reach a certain advantageous position, or disadvantageous as the case may be.

It has been over 40 years since I played but one day I may try again

Where will you spend eternity? This is the most important question that you will ever consider. What will happen when you die? Would you go to heaven? Are you saved? If you have never believed that you are saved forever through faith alone in the crucified and risen Lord Jesus Christ or have trusted in something else, you are not saved.

1. To understand this good news (the gospel) you must understand the bad news:
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God (Rom 3:23)
Sin is breaking God’s law. If you have ever lied, slandered anyone, borne false witness against anyone, stolen anything, cheated someone, hated anyone, disobeyed your parents, believed or supported the lie of evolution, had an abortion, supported abortion, coveted someone’s spouse, are married and lusted after someone not your spouse, committed adultery, fornication or murder, you have sinned. Every thought, word, and deed that breaks God’s law is sin.

God is holy and will punish sin by everlasting separation from God in the lake of fire.
For the wages of sin is death (Rom 6:23)
it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement (Heb 9:27)
from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female (Mark 10:6)
… the unbelieving … idolaters ... all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire (Rev 21:8)
Until all your sins are forgiven by trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, you are under God’s damnation.

2. The good news (the gospel) is that Jesus Christ loved us so much that He was crucified to pay for all our sins by His shed blood on the cross. He then rose from the dead. Here is t the gospel of Christ declared
I declare unto you the gospel … By which also ye are saved … how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures (1 Cor 15:1-4)

.
It says “not of works” so what are those works?

If you have believed in the crucified and risen Lord Jesus Christ and trusted in His total payment for all your sins by His shed blood, you are saved forever and cannot lose your salvation. The Lord Jesus Christ is God and the Almighty Saviour, never lost anyone who trusted in Him, and would never lie.
him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out (John 6:37)
I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish (John 10:28)
In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins (Col 1:14)
having forgiven you all trespasses (Col 2:13)
I will never leave thee nor forsake thee (Heb 13:5)
Amen to most of the OP, except that we must remember that the Bible conditions this with "if you will continue to abide in me and walk by faith." Many will turn and walk away in the last days just as they did in the early days. These are apostates and will be many. No one will take them out of God's hand's; they will remove themselves.

John 6:66

“From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.”

King James Version (KJV)

Luke 8:14

“And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.”

King James Version (KJV)

Repentance is not a one-time thing. It needs to be part of our lifestyle. It needs to be genuine and from the heart. This is not salvation by works. This is salvation by continuance in our walk of faith. The Holy Spirit will enable and empower us as we yield ourselves daily.

Remember the parable of the ten virgins and their lamp oil.

Matthew 25:10

“And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.”

King James Version (KJV)

Also remember Lot's wife, The Dog who returned to its vomit, and The Pig who returned to its mire. Not all prodigal sons return home.

Paul said, that God has not only begun a great [[work]] in me, but also that God will continue His [[work]] in me until "perfection" up to the moment He (God) takes me Home!

That Promise equals that I am Spending Eternity with the ONE who Perfected me :love::love:
