I joined this group to search for biblical truth in what I was feeling in my spirit.
however I have noticed a culture which is not necessarily all that healthy. people who are trying to respond being attacked for their views and opinions, and their interpretation of the scriptures.

I hope that I can be a sincere member of this community without causing offence but instead helping to build up people in need and to be involved in sound biblical discussion... on that thought

My favorite verse is Ephesians 6:16 : In addition to all this take up the shield of Faith with which you can extinguish the flaming arrows of the enemy

in the armor of God is the Sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.
this could be interpreted to say that the bible can be used as an offensive weapon.
however soldiers would spar together to improve their skills without intent to cause any major damage.

in the interest of that what sparring techniques do you all like to use when discussing the word of God with fellow believers?

Praise God that we can continue to be examples to each other.
Never to take offence, but to realise the struggle many Christian’s have.
Some people that attack, are actually suffering physical pain.
And some have not found that complete rest and peace through Christ alone.

The proud take correction as an attack..
The meek take it as a blessing..

It helps if you take opposition from others as coming from a genuine belief that one is mistaken and the opposing view they give is their attempt to save you from deception..

Amen good verses.. But again don't automatically assume those who are opposing your views are doing so out of a spirit of an enemy.. Sometimes the intentions of those that oppose your beliefs are noble..

Bring forth verses and passages of scripture that reveal the other persons belief is mistaken.. Also adding an explanation to each verse or passage you quote when doing so to make sure you have expressed why that verse or passage is saying what you believe it is saying..

Having said all that of course you will come across un loving religous people who do hate you and are filled with religous pride in the doctrines they aspouse.. Time will reveal who is whom.. Best to stand up for your beliefs if you sincerly believe them and let the LORD Jesus deal with the person who is unjustly persecuting you..

I see what you are saying and agree entirely.
however I was not meaning other belivers being the enemy, or even non believers.

it was more so using the Roman army as the example,
the enemy being the forces binding the unsaved

and those we spar with are brother in christ.
after all “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another "

Also there are people I have seen who are using very attacking language and acting immature when talking about biblical subject.
we should be slow to anger and not offensive.

I think of times I have talked about scripture with my father sparring over the word. and it's not always opposing. often we are agreeing with each other, we will talk about a subject and quote scripture. back and forth, often I will mention a verse and he will see a misunderstanding and correct it with another verse or adding context to the verse.

When we use the bible outside of the building up sparing we seek to loose the chains which bind the unsaved so that the word of God may take root in their heart

I usually use rubber bullets and rubber swords. When wrestling with each-other we use a yoga matt for soft landings.
Welcome aboard. ;)

Here, put these on:

"in the interest of that what sparring techniques do you all like to use..."

Christianity: Sparring / Practice Combat

To spar, in a combat sport, means to PRACTICE combat with another person.

There is no direct equivalent to this in the Bible.

1.) We are not in physical combat, but spiritual combat... so different rules apply.

2.) Because we're in spiritual combat (a spiritual war), the warfare is governed by spiritual principles, and spiritual issues.

3.) For example:
a) Because we're in a spiritual war, there are no physical PLACES where we are only "practicing", and we are removed from the actual war.
b.) Likewise, there are no physical TIMES when we are only "practicing", and we are removed from the actual war.
c.) We are, at all times, and all places... IN A SPIRITUAL WAR. .

4.) We are at all times, and all places, in a spiritual war... there is no time or place where we can "merely practice."

5.) Now, we'll get to the tricky conundrums:
a.) We can PRACTICE certain physical activities (like debate), but even during this "practice", we are still, at all times, remaining in the very midst of a spiritual war.
b.) So you can practice a physical activity like debate.
c.) But even in the midst of a practice debate... you still remain in the midst of a FULL-ON WAR, AT ALL TIMES.

6. Here is what PRACTICE COMBAT looks like for a Christian.
- Imagine being in World War 2, and you're on a battlefield, and you need to practice with you rifle, but there is no place to practice except out where people can shoot at you... so you go into an open field, where the enemy can shoot at you, and you practice.
- This is what Christianity is like.
- No matter what we do, we are always in a spiritual war, and always on a spiritual battlefield.
- There is no place to remove yourself from spiritual forces.

Conclusion:
- The Christian life is one of continual, unending, and unrelenting spiritual warfare.
- There is no equivalent to "sparring" in the bible, as we are at all times in a real war, and we are never removed from it.
- If we want to "practice" something, we can... but even while we are practicing something, we are still in the midst of a war.

This may not be very cheery... but it's Biblical.
God Bless.

.

Hi welcome to CC!!! One of the funniest comedy clips I think, was in a TV show, where these two students were having a Scripture battle. One would lay down a Scripture and the other would counter it and back n forth. Probably on suffering or something lol. Hope you have many fruitful convos here, God bless you and your family!

So your talking about evil spirits / demonic oppression..

True..

Correct..

Yes.. We all need to conform to the truth when it is pointed out to us.. Some times we are used by God to correct others and at other times God uses others to correct us.. It's a weird blend we need to have.. Brave enough to stand up for the truth to someone else.. but also meek enough to take correction when God inspires someone to speak up and correct us..

When we use the bible outside of the building up sparing we seek to loose the chains which bind the unsaved so that the word of God may take root in their heart
Amen.. :)
