I summarized the best parts of what I've learned over the years. It doesn't quote scripture, and it probably isn't watertight, but it works for me. I try to consider all these things on my "prayer walks"
Abide in Christ Only and Always
Pray
Love others as oneself, including (and especially) your enemies.
Humility
God is first - Through prayer, try to get to the point that you are ready to leave everything and follow, even family. When the time comes, and God calls, we have to be in this mindset.
Repentance - Ask for forgiveness and sins are forgotten. Believe this with all your heart. Don't let shame and guilt bother you anymore.
We will have eternal life - We don't know how God works. Stop being distracted by things of this world that tell you otherwise.
Suffer with dignity - Suffering is a part of the human experience. Don't look to avoid or fear suffering. Suffering is wisdom, strength, and a gift. God doesn't create suffering, but he will allow it for His purpose. Suffer in private, learn from it, don't complain, offer it up to others who are less fortunate.
We are only pilgrims in this world. - This is not our home. Our purpose is to eschew our free will for the sake of God's will. We carry our cross with the help of God, and to help those who are having trouble carrying their own.
Be reborn - We have to destroy the old man in our soul (Adam) and be reborn a new man (Jesus). Adam was of this world; Jesus is of the spirit. It hurts to die. That's when the Spirit takes place of the flesh. Our burden becomes lighter, and the yoke is easy. Good wine is not put in old bottles. You need to empty yourself of everything worldly, have it destroyed, and then be filled.
Justification and sanctification - We are saved by justification only because it leads to sanctification. We are not actually saved through grace if we don't end up being sanctified.
None of us is "Good" - We are all just sinful creatures covered in dirty rags. Nothing we can do on our own can make us "Good". By abiding in Christ, we take on the Holy Spirit which makes us One in Christ. We are saved by becoming one body in Jesus.
It's a lifelong journey. - Don't give up when you fail. Failure is guaranteed. Persistence is a must. Ask for forgiveness and try your hardest to follow Jesus. It's not you who is doing the work anyway, your thoughts are messing up the process. You WILL become sanctified because of Faith. Stop thinking about it.
Pray often - Prayer connects us with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will direct us for even the most mundane decisions. We end up choosing the path, even though He guides our steps. It's important to always choose the right path so we don't lose our way.
Fear not, and want not - Did you know anxiety is a sin? It's my biggest struggle. Trust completely in Jesus. Though the mountains may fall, and the hills turn to dust, the love of the Lord will stand as a shelter for all that will call on His name. Wanting nothing makes life easy, fearing nothing makes life enjoyable.
Intercessional prayer is the most powerful prayer. Pray for others, especially those you don't know or love. Personal requests come last, and probably will seem trivial.
Prayer is a conversation with Jesus. God doesn't like vein repetitions. The "Our Father" should be said every morning with concentration on what each verse means, and not by rote.
Gratitude - Give thanks for every blessing you have. Everything comes from Him. It can be taken away any moment. If taken away, we must rejoice.
Jesus was sent to abolish the law -We don't need to depend on the law to be faithful. Through faith and prayer, the God's law becomes written in our hearts. The Bible is not the law. The Bible shows us the way to Jesus. Once we find Jesus, that is all we need. If Jesus lives in our soul, what else do we need.
Pride is the most harmful of all vices. It's also the most painful and difficult thing to get rid of. So much sin stems from pride.
Do charitable works in private. If you donate, do so without anyone knowing. Avoid receiving our reward here, and God will reward you later.
Faith, Hope, Love - Love is the greatest of the three. We can have faith and hope, but they are worthless without love. Love can exist on its own without the other two. If we struggle with hope or faith, lean on love, and we will be with Jesus.
Meditation - Our thoughts are evil. Cognition is of the world and is necessary to get by day-to-day. However, too much thinking leads us to rely on our own 'wisdom' instead of God's guidance. Meditation does help people overcome this.
Fasting - Helpful tool to appreciate blessings and the feeling of emptiness helps to better understand the need for the Spirit.
