I just asked a basic question. Jesus said the tax collector (not the pharisee) went home justified.

Once again, Did he seek God before or after?

Can you answer the question?
Sure. He sought God before
Now I have have a question: what is God teaching in the story?

Sure. He sought God before
Now I have have a question: what is God teaching in the story?
A few things

1. The law will not save. And we should not boast we are ok..
2. It takes us becoming poor in spirit. To enter the kingdom of God.
3. Religion is not the answer etc etc.
Now a question for you. If the tax collector sought God before, as you admit, why did you say we seek God after and not before? Did you change your mind?
When God grants faith, He changes our responses towards Him. Before an individual is saved, they do not seek after God. Once they are saved, they run after Him. This is why when asked what the work of God is Jesus replied the work of God is to believe.

Not at all. The whole reason I spoke as I did earlier was because I could see where your question was heading. I'm happy to answer your questions, but my answers will be better understood as you also answer my questions. What is God teaching in the story? What is the subject?

Incorrect. You assume that justified here is dealing with salvation. That's why I asked you what the subject of the passage is. The passage itself doesn't deal with salvation. But you make it about salvation.
Read the passage again, and answer the question: what is being taught in the passage? What is the subject?

To say they were tricked is not quite right either, because Adam was not deceived... only Eve
was deceived. We are largely in agreement about whether or not man possesses free will.
That Adam and Eve were of the natural world is what seems to me to be the crux of the matter.
The natural man cannot obey God's law, and Jesus was already purposed to pay the sin debt.
as usual we are largely agreed :)

hi

yes they were judged every man according to their works. This ought to tell people something, they cannot be the church who are saved by grace alone through faith.

The church were in the first resurrect and have been reigning with Christ so these people are not the church and some were saved [I believe MANY] Ya know brother there folks out there doing good things with their lives. We say "oh God can never overlook sin, He's holy ..." can He then overlook good things people do, dedicate their lives to?

The church has got it wrong ... it's bold to say that. But I believe Calvin got it wrong and I believe Arminius got it wrong.

Who are they then? what will their inheritance be? I believe they are the meek who will inherit the earth.

Funny thing is I Agree with all of these. . Which just proves my point. Your trying to look at me under what you have been taught I believe, Not what i actually believe

I am not sure whats up but every time you quote me the formatting is messed up.
No no you became angry like dear Oyster did and you started sneering and laying into me why?

Because I believe God

Because I believe Him when He says He chose me. Why does this not thrill Christians? why will they insist that they chose Him?

They say "it was not the will of God but the will of man, the will of the flesh"

Special? do I believe I am special? yes, I am agreeing with God who says we are a peculiar [special] people a royal priesthood.

Nobody is going to join us if we go around saying "we are just worthless folk, miserable sinning worms of the dust" they say "oh right then, thanks ... but no thanks"

And I don't believe I am chosen to exclude anybody but to INCLUDE everybody ... they can be saved, we's chosen to be a city set upon a hill, not to exclude anybody but to be a beacon of hope and shelter to the lonely, the poor and the refugees THAT'S what election is.
Not to be saved but to be conformed to the Son of God.

So you are not an adherent to the OSAS peoples doctrine that claims if a Christian lives in sin they will be saved anyway?
1 John 3:9 (AMP) - No one who is born of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, because God’s seed [His principle of life, the essence of His righteous character] remains [permanently] in him [who is born again—who is reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose]; and he [who is born again] cannot habitually [live a life characterized by] sin, because he is born of God and longs to please Him.

So much for your continued false accusations.

No sir I did not become angry. Don;t go bearing false witness now. All I did was expose the truth. And you proved it. Now you are lashing out

Because I believe God
Many people say they believe God. It does not mean they do, Using this to try to win a discussion is not a good tactic.

Because I believe Him when He says He chose me. Why does this not thrill Christians? why will they insist that they chose Him?
Why did God chose you?

They say "it was not the will of God but the will of man, the will of the flesh"
Well I do nto day this so here you go with your accusation again.

PS. I am not Armenian. I reject both lines of thinking (fatalism and Armenian)

Special? do I believe I am special? yes, I am agreeing with God who says we are a peculiar [special] people a royal priesthood.
Exact;y. Again you just proved my point. Your special, and the one who God did not open his eyes is not. You’re better than they are. Thank you

Nobody is going to join us if we go around saying "we are just worthless folk, miserable sinning worms of the dust" they say "oh right then, thanks ... but no thanks"
lol. We would not have to say this if we did not have pharisees pumping their chest saying how special and good they were.

The world hates a hypocrite.

And I don't believe I am chosen to exclude anybody but to INCLUDE everybody ... they can be saved, we's chosen to be a city set upon a hill, not to exclude anybody but to be a beacon of hope and shelter to the lonely, the poor and the refugees THAT'S what election is.

Disagree with your last statement. Nothing can happen unless you are saved.. Until then, Your dread in tresspasses and sin.

God lifted himself on that pole. That whoever (anyone who will) looks up at it. Will not die. But be bern again to new life. That new life being forever.

Good God. Where do you come up with this stuff.

Like I said, I am not going into this with you. The tax collector called out for Gods mercy.

God saved him, he went hime justified

The tax collector did not think they need saved, so he did like all legalists do and pumped his chest. He went hime lost.

He has been told the same from so many in both chatrooms. Yet he continues his slanderous ways.

He continues to sin against us.. Then pumps his chest.. like the pharisee

That's not the point of the parable. Jesus tells us what the point of the story: And He spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others...
The first thing we know is that both the Pharisee and the tax collector are not actual people.
Second, the focus of the message is to teach those who are self-righteous what true righteousness looks like.
Third, there is a great difference in the approach to God of both men.
Fourth, there is a great difference in God's response to each man.

While there are ancillary truths concerning salvation, Jesus' concern in the passage wasn't to teach the operation or the order of salvation. He could have easily done so. And for anyone to treat it as such will only lead to poor biblical understanding. There are plenty of passages which deal directly with salvation to come to an understanding.

we don't have to be concerned by this, but......................................what if..........................................................
the Story about the Woman caught in Adultery and was about to be Stoned to Death................................happened AFTER the DBR of Jesus Christ.

and when Jesus said, those [[without SIN]] cast the first Stone.
how many Christians would have Stoned her to Death, thinking, they're Sinless?

^
this is how i measure the OSAS Doctrine.

because, some Doctrines, [like some i grew up with in the Southern Baptist Church] the Christian, would most definitely be casting their Stone at her.

everyone already knows that story :(

You are not abiding in Christ, you are trusting to your own faithfulness ... and failing.

I am no longer in Adam I am in Christ, God sees me in HIS righteousness.
As one that says one can still live in sin and be in right standing with the Lord... you don't understand the new birth. disagree.gif

I'm born again and have become a New Creature In Christ... but the Lord told me that I can do ALL things thru Christ Who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13) so He gave me power to quit living in sin and making excuses for sin like the OSAS peoples do.

Too bad you didn't get the memo! funny.gif .

It's sad that some don't know that the wrath of God comes upon the children of disobedience (Colossians 3:6) as they believe they can continue living in their sinful lifestyles and still go to Heaven... they gonna be shocked when they go south when they croak.

by the sounds of it your judging people's salvation with the assurance that your salvation is assured, last time I checked the bible, boasting in your infirmities is based on what God has shown you or said to you, Paul even said i have been conceited as to not boast in my infirmities

You don't believe in once saved always saved, but here you are boasting that others will go to hell but your born again

I don't think your any different to those who believe in osas with an ego issue that is.

Except you do still sin but excuse it by saying you don't know you are sinning.
