Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.”
‭‭Malachi‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: and he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”
‭‭Malachi‬ ‭4:5-6‬ ‭

As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Which shall prepare thy way before thee.

John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭1:2, 4, 6‬ ‭

“And they answered him, He was an hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.”
‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭1:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.

And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah , to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭1:13, 15-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The final two verses of the ot prophets

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: and he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”

“And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elijah must first come? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elijah truly shall first come, and restore all things.

But I say unto you, That Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭17:10-13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“The law and the prophets were until John:

since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭16:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

consider letting the New Testament fill in the interpretations from the Old Testament

Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me:( John )

and the Lord,( Jesus ) whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.”
‭‭Malachi‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? ….But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Which shall prepare thy way before thee.

Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, ( John was beheaded ) and the violent take it by force.

For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

And if ye will receive it, this is Elijah , which was for to come. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:7, 9-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The last two verses of the Old Testament appx 250 bc

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: and he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”
‭‭Malachi‬ ‭4:5-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The nt prophecy of John

“But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.

And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah , to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

…. And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

….And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭1:13-17, 76, 80‬ ‭KJV‬‬

And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah
Please note carefully that John the Baptizer came in the spirit and power of Elijah, but not as a reincarnation of Elijah. His presence as the forerunner of Christ (preparing the way of the Lord) at His first coming pre-figured the actual coming of the actual Elijah before the Second Coming of Christ. So Elijah will indeed come to this earth during the reign of the Antichrist (Rev 11). And it is only then that the prophecy of Malachi will be completely fulfilled.

When John was asked if he was Elijah, how did he respond?
And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? [ELIJAH] And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet [prophesied by Moses]? And he answered, No. (John 1:19-21)

which Scriptures do you have an issue with ?

I believe Elijah has an end times ministry and will appear in Israel sometime before Tribulation begins.

Malachi 4:5-6 “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse.”

Jesus Yeshua proclaimed the Elijah had come but the people knw him not, referring to John the Baptist.
Yes the final paragraph of the prophets promised in ad 2-250

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

and he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”
‭‭Malachi‬ ‭4:5-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

About 300-350 years later jesus says

“For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

And if ye will receive it, this is Elijah, which was for to come. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:13-15‬ ‭

then there’s the prophecies of johns birth

Then there’s all the other things Jesus was explaining about it like this example

And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elijah must first come? ( they are asking about what Malachi ends with )

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elijah truly shall first come, and restore all things. ( he’s saying they are right Elijah must come first )

But I say unto you, That Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. ( John was imprisoned and beheaded )

Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. ( Jesus was rejected condemned and crucified )

Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭17:10-13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Some will say Elijah has to come again a second time before Christ returns , not really what I’m addressing but just the fact that John the Baptist fuflilled the prophecy about Elijah coming before him this according to Jesus own words along with Malachi 3:1 and also sections of Isaiah

Some people say one of the two witnesses of Revelation 11 maybe Elijah because of what they have power to do:

They have power to shut up the heavens so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying; and they have power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want (Revelation 11:6).

Sounds like Elijah and Moses, who incidentally are both in heaven with their bodies (2 Kings 2:1-18, Jude 1:9). Elijah stopped the rain during his ministry- Moses turned the Nile to blood and brought down the plagues onto Egypt. God Bless :)

John the Baptist came in the spirit of Elijah to prepare the way for Jesus.

But when the fulness of the Gentiles are come in which is when salvation is no longer available to the Gentiles when they take the mark of the beast then God will send Israel 2 witnesses to turn them to the truth that Jesus is their Messiah.

Which I believe will be Elijah of the prophets, and Moses the law giver who both did miracles which they go against the world if they try to stop them from preaching by plagues upon them.

Rev 11:3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
Rev 11:4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

Zec 4:12 And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves?
Zec 4:13 And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
Zec 4:14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.

Mat 17:1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
Mat 17:2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
Mat 17:3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

It was Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus when He was transfigured.

Yes I agree the two witnesses are Moses and Elijah

Johns language is actually coming from here and what zechariah had saw

“Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? ….And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my Lord. Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.”
‭‭Zechariah‬ ‭4:11, 13-14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

John doesn’t see two olive trees he just says of the two witnesses “ these are the two olive trees and two candlesticks “ which is what zechariah had seen in his vision of Jesus and his two annointed ones

“And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭11:3-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

hes actually making a direct reference to what zechariah had seen and was told

“What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? ….These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.”

Then as you said we find out who they are here

“And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elijah: who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭9:30-31‬ ‭

Where we differ is I believe that Moses represents the law and Elijah represents the prophets in revelations vision everything in revelation represents other things

We see a lamb with seven horns and seven eyes looking as if it’s been slain …. But we understand it represents Jesus the lamb of God . We see a beast with seven heads and ten horns but we understsnd it represents eighteen kings past present and future , we see a dragon but we understand it represents Satan ……we see two witnesses

“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:21‬ ‭

To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭10:43‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:45‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: that Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭26:22-23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭28:23‬ ‭

what I’m saying is I agree Moses and Elijah are rbe two witneseee in revelation but I think ( just my own opinion ) the two men represent the law given by Moses and the prophets of whom Elijah was considered greatest
