Note the scripture says it was the Holy Ghost that was received not spiritual GIFTS.

"Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (no reference to gifts)

(For as yet HE was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost." (again, no reference to gifts) Acts 8:14-17
Do you see here how Peter is just speaking and the Holy Ghost falls on those who receive and believe the word he’s preaching ?

“And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭10:39-40, 42-48‬ ‭KJV‬‬

and then see here how what Peter says before they believe is different because he gets more of the doctrine out before the receive the word ?

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:38-41‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I don’t think the order matters the Holy Ghost always comes because we believe the gospel

and baptism is always about the remission of sins because we believe Jesus died for our sins and rose again and is now interceding at the right hand of God on our behalf.

In both cases the people were baptized and received the holt ghost but the order is obviously opposite . My opinion and that’s all it is is well receive the spirit when we hear the promise Jesus made to give it to us paul laying his hands on the man is t then a proscription because Peter was just preaching of Jesus and the Holy Ghost fell on all who heard the word then after peters first command is for ester baptism in jesus name of course we know this is for remission of sins

Receiving the holy ghost is a promise from the lord to believers , baptism for remission of sins is a doctrine provided by a gods word for remission of sins in jesus name it’s an act of faith the Holy Ghost is a gift given from jesus to believers it doesn’t remit our sins baptism does that part because we heard the message about remission of sins and being baptized in his name who died for our sins

The ones baptized were added. But that doesn't mean they were added by water baptism.

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:4-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: and there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭1:9-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬

“Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭8:35-

We need to hear what God said and act upon what he said that’s why baotism matters “water baptism “ is the only baptism the Chri chi was ever commanded to do John foretold pentocost that reference isn’t a second baotism it’s the completion of baptism it the part jesus does hearing about baptism for remission on Jesus name and acting upon it because we believe is our part

It’s much simpler that often we make it jesus said anyone who believes the gospel and is baptized shall be saved .
Jesus was baptized by John in water and received the Holy Ghost

We’re supposed to be partakers of Christs baptism who has no sin but died for remission of ours

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, ( water )

and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”( spirit )
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:38‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We want to be the ones like Peter believing and sharing the message about baptism for remission of sins in Jesus name who died for our sins

“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:3‬

“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:3-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

water baptism is just baptism receiving the Holy Ghost is what John was talking about when he said baptize you with the holy ghost and fire he was foretelling pentocost

We disagree a little on baptism. I believe the one baptism being spoken of is the baptism performed by the Holy Spirit that places those who are born again into the body of Christ. It is pictured in water baptism and explained in Romans 6. And whereas water baptism is a physical act, being placed into Christ is a nonexperiential, spiritual act. The former is something we do; the latter is done for us.
Something else for consideration:
Who should partake in the Lord's supper? Everyone, or those who believe? It is for believers. Who should be baptized? Is it for everyone, or those who believe? It is for believers as well. I believe this is all Jesus is saying in Mark 16.
The other verses you shared are worth exploring, and I believe a careful consideration of them will show that belief always comes first in salvation. What follows is evidence of the spiritual work that God has already done.

I suggest the only reason the Gentiles received it first is because God was making a point. Please consider:
Acts 15:8 And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us;
God had to do so so that there would be no question for the Jews that the Gentiles were to be included.
Acts 11:18 When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified God, saying, “Well then, God has also granted to the Gentiles the repentance that leads to life.” 1
Also consider God gave Peter a vision to help him to understand what was about to happen.
I agree.

Also note Peter's comment about not having any intention of withstanding God AFTER seeing the group was filled with the Holy Ghost. What did Peter do after that occurred? Peter gave the command to be baptized in water in the name of Jesus. (Acts 10:47-48) Conclusion? Both water and Spirit are essential to salvation:

"And he (Cornelius) shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;
Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?" Acts 11:13-17

No it did not only happened 2 times, Christ said;

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
Jhn 14:15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
Jhn 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever—
Jhn 14:17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.

Whoever belongs to Christ and does the fathers will receive the Holy Spirit, This is the baptism John the baptizer was talking about;

Mat 3:11 I baptize you with water for repentance, but after me will come One more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Peace
You left something out. Yes, they were taught Jesus accurately but baptized into John's baptism. Before Paul lays hands on them he baptizes them in the name of Jesus. Then he lays hands on them. If you will notice in Acts 8, we see a similar situation. The Samarians were baptized in the name of Jesus but they didn't receive spiritual gifts. Later Peter and John come to give them gifts. Since they were already baptized in the name of Jesus, all they had to do was lay hands on them.
Cornelius was baptized in the Holy Ghost first, then baptized in water.

In Acts 2, many believed this was when the church was born, but this isn't true. The 120 were already saved after Jesus accomplished His work & went to the right hand of the Father.
Here, the church received the promise of power to do what none of them could do by themselves. They were "fully immersed" in the Holy Spirit.(baptized)

brother it says there is one baptism Jesus was baptized for remission of sins in water his disciples baptized in water for remission of sins afterwards are you saying Jesus and all his biblical disciples partook of the wrong baptism ? D there’s a different “ one baptism” ?

what your saying would mean Jesus and all his disciples partook of the wrong baptism and preached a different second baptism then said there’s just one baptism ……based on something the prophet john said and Jesus fuflilled at pentocost ?

Even when it says specifically they were baptizing in water? Surprising brother

“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 19-20

They were baptizing in water. But anyone can be baptized in water. I'm just saying that wasn't the baptism Jesus was referring to. The only thing that ultimately matters in this life is whether we are in Christ or not. We cannot place ourselves in Christ. The Holy Spirit must place us into Him. This is the baptism that is of preeminent importance and what all other baptisms symbolize. It is in this sense they are all one.

yes, I meant with but wrote by.

Now a big question do you remember when you received the holy spirit? where you were what you felt? how did happen for you exactly? how did you get baptized, did a person laid a hand on you? water baptism?

it is probably too personal and you don't have to if you don't want to.

Peace
It doesn't matter what one feels. Our feelings can mislead us. God's word will not mislead us but guide us into truth.
We will be judged on the last day by Jesus's words, not what we feel.
The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.

turbosixx ---what your doing is taking one verse out of the whole Context of the Scripture and trying to analyze it and that in itself shows that your still on the milk stage --if you really are a Born again Christian -------

If your not a Born Again Chist---ian than your attempts of trying to understand the Spiritual are futile ----

There are 2 lens of reading the Scripture ------the Logos lens and the Rhema lens ----your need the Rhema lens to understand the Spiritual meaning of the Scripture ---and the Holy Spirit is the one who gives you the Rhema Word ------anyone who can read the Logos Word -------the Rhema Word is the Spoken Word -------the meaning behind the Logos Word ------
From what I read others saying, I see things more spiritual than most. Especially with water baptism. I see it as a spiritual event that does a whole lot more than getting one wet as a lot suggest. Not a spiritual baptism but a physical baptism that has amazing spiritual benefits.

I'm a firm believer in context. If you say I'm taking one verse out of context, help me to see the context. In the previous post you posted a lot of information and it would be hard for me to address it all. I did see one root thing to address but I thought I would let you please explain how I'm out of context.

"For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit."

This is how each believer is fit into the Body: The Spirit immerses us into the Body according to His plan. In fact, not recognizing the placement of others in the Body is why the church is sick and weak.

"For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep."

When we eat the bread we are to be reminded that all are a part of the One: Christ.

Preference for self, or for factions, creates sickness within the whole. For example: how will the Body function if, because of bias, they reject a word of correction from the Lord through one who is sent to them? Paul, because of this, would write: "And the rest I will set in order when I come." He understood his place in the Body so he would exercise the authority given to him.

This is baptism by the Spirit.

Jesus Christ will also baptize us with the Spirit. This is to empower our placement within the Body. He also does this from heaven.
So, the dispensation of grace, or ability and power, would be handled only by the Lord with the Spirit: these are spiritual gifts empowered by the Spirit.

"And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers..."

This is a reference to Christ who has already ascended. Here, He decides to whom the gifts of grace are given.

"But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift."

So, the dispensation of grace originated from heaven in Christ not during his time as the man, Jesus. Therefore, it can only be a spiritual transaction: from Heaven by the Lord with the Spirit.

Certainly, those in authority, by the laying on of hands, may acknowledge the gift and even dispense the gift they have been given to others, but a believer in the Lord will only be led by the Spirit so still, the Spirit is in charge of this empowerment.
If I understand you correctly, I agree with most of what you have said except what you view as "baptism by the HS."

So when Paul tells the Corinthians For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body which baptism is he talking about? The spiritual one or the physical one?
We know and are told of their physically water baptism at their conversion when they heard and believed.
And many of the Corinthians hearing Paul believed and were baptized. I'm not aware of any talk of their spiritual baptism.

It's my understanding that when they were water baptized the HS added them to the body. One baptism placing them into Christ as we see here.
So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

Absolutely. Water and Spirit just as Jesus told Nicodemus was necessary to enter the kingdom. Also, as you have said, we never see anyone commanded to be water baptized except here.

Recall: Paul is addressing sectarianism and division. The one baptism here (although there are 4 baptisms in scripture) is the one baptism by the Spirit. This is the immersion into the one body of Christ. Furthermore, the dispensation of gifts is a central theme. This is how the Spirit coordinates the members of the body. This is also why Paul often, in his epistle introductions, references his position: “Paul, an apostle of Christ…” He recognizes the he is being sent to (the meaning of apostle: one who is sent) the recipients of the letters. Because he is sent to them his words bear much weight and are important.

Cornelius was baptized in the Holy Ghost first, then baptized in water.
True but why?
Could it have something to do with the vision Peter had. Could it have something to do with the apostles not preaching to the Gentiles. Could it have something to do with over a thousand years of the Jews viewing the Gentiles as dogs.

A lot of people here try to help you with your restrictive, borderline coercive opening post but you reject systematically everyone who tried to answer. You want the perfect answer that fits your current beliefs, I wish you luck with your search, hoping you will find what you seek. But I tell you everything you want to know, Jesus did and wrote through his chosen disciples, if you follow HIS teachings you will understand. I cannot do anything else for you since you refuse proper scripture from me and others that explains to you what you wanted to understand about Baptism.

Please do not reply.

being baptized into a body of water is a shadow of the body that casts it, which belongs to Christ (Colossians 2:17) symbolizes the reality of being baptized into the body of Christ. "Therefore, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ...so that you might belong to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God (Romans 7:4)." And. there's the (Hebrews?) verse about moving on to maturity.

Well what did God say in the vision?

"what God hath cleansed thou shalt not call common"

Cornelius was already cleansed .... baptism has no saving or cleansing quality. Peter was very slow to learn ...

From what I read others saying, I see things more spiritual than most.
well that may be so ---but what your thread is about ---your not there yet in your Faith walk and that is very obvious in what your posting ---you yourself are giving away your limited understanding of this subject ---so your Spiritual revelation is still in the Milk stage as per your spiritual understanding of your thread topic ---and your comments -----your not ready for this understanding ------

It takes maturing in your Faith walk to get into the meat of the scripture ---as I said the Holy Spirit will only feed you what you can take in and understand -----as you mature you get more revelation from the Holy Spirit ---not man

1 Corinthians 3
