The effect of daily Bible study

I have found it has to be me and the Bible alone together. All distractions removed, the babble of the world is irrelevant. In my case it is the King James Bible. By reading daily, studying short sections and thinking about the meaning, researching as needed, I am finding good results and peace. It is strengthening deep inside.

The Bible really is God speaking to us, everything is there. It is a treasure trove to be opened. I feel good changes coming over me and that God draws near when you draw near to Him. I pray for clarity and understanding before I read and am blown away afresh by the power of the words. So I am working slowly through the Gospels.

I do not feel any necessity to memorise anything, just read at my own pace with an open mind and my need to understand. No pressure.
If I get stuck, I come to this group and ask the question. Other opinions are valuable.

How do you conduct your Bible study and are you happy with it?

I read 1 chapter a day and just go little by little and consistently. That has been the best for me.

I haven't started memorizing yet, but would like to have some cards to memorize as well.

I never try to memorise. I see no reason to. Just focus on understanding.

I think it's important to memorize it, but involves rote memory which is hard for me.

All of the verses are advice for life. So it's helpful to think of a verse when going through something. Or when sharing the gospel.

My routine can change from year to year.
I try to get in so many chapters and like to start and end my day with the KJV as you do.

Sometimes I spend more time studying or following along while listening to a good sermon. I find memorizing helpful, but require more review than I did as a kid, to have good recall. Not only is it good for the spirit, but the soul and brain gets a good workout to strengthen them too.

I haven't found a method yet. I read all of revelations, psalms, Proverbs, and a few others. I do Bible plans on various topics everyday. Some say you should start reading the book of John first. I've studied that one so much lately and even watched the Life of Jesus TV show. I'm not really sure where to start, but I'd love to read the whole thing. One Bible plan is to read in chronological order, others start from Genesis. I am kind of overwhelmed about where to start. I've kind of just been skipping around and studying whatever interests me or is relevant to my situation aside from what I have been learning in church.

I am a topical Bible reader. God gives me a word or subject and I diacect and study it out Also look knowing the original meaning in the Hebrew and Greek. It has been life freeing at times.
As far as memorizing. I am not the best at it but I read it until I get the most important of it in me cause you attract sin with the word. For example I learned that even the thought of foolishness is sin. So now God helps me with my wrong thinking and God or my husband will say Foolish thought.

Holy Spirit helps me, 1 Corinthians chapter 2. I have several disabilities. I was in special education through school system. Graduation in 1993. Some of the Reprobates put special education kids down. These punks value themselves above another person with disabilities. 1 Corinthians chapter 12. God gives Christian people different gifts and abilities.

I went to trade school. My dad thought my gifts pertaining to this. I flunked out badly. My gifts were spiritual. My dad thinks in carnal minded way. Passed away 2011. Knowledge and wisdom was given to me. Its gift. I can't take credit for it. Same Spirit, but different gifts.

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise. And God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.

Trade school I failed. I didn't pass police written test. I felt devastated, before I converted to Christianity in 1999. Then I realized, my calling was to serve Jesus. I was called out of the world. My dad never understood.

You have not failed at all, because God has a unique plan for you.
The judge is God of course, not any human being such your dad. By being saved, you are a winner as your eternity is with the Lord.

I just read what parts I am drawn to, I see no reason to read the whole Bible systematically. By reading different parts, I have built a good basic working knowledge of the Bible. I never try to memorise any of it, I just try to understand.

No one knew the bible like my Nana, and she never studied a day in her life. She loved and cherished the word and read it all the time.

Proverbs daily. One chapter a day. Psalms daily. One chapter per day with the exception of Psalm 119.

I'm usually reading a commentary (prefer the Puritans) and studying the corresponding book.

Right now I'm in 1John and reading Candlish.

I used to do a lot of word study.
But I found it too easy to get bogged down or start chasing rabbits.

Topical is where its at for me lately.

I study as though I were preparing to deliver a message.

Now having said all that, lest someone get the wrong idea about me. This is how I study. I am not saying that I'm in the word everyday or that there haven't been seasons when my studies have suffered, or maybe I was just going through a season of prayer instead. Or sin, it happens. And by sin, I don't mean some gross transgression. Worries, distractions, laziness, spiritual laziness, all of these have kept me from prayer and study at times.

I'm so grateful, that He is mindful of my frame. That His grace is sufficient for me. That beneath me are His everlasting arms.

That I don't have to be a scholar to get to heaven.
