Saved by Grace Through Faith

Someone recently asked me how I know that I am saved. My answer:
Well, I heard the Gospel for the first time in 1981. Was surprised that according to John 3:16, that it was so easy to get saved. Per Rev 3:20, I believe that at the time God was knocking on the door of my heart, and I believed and responded to His grace by faith per Ephesians 2:8-9 and confessed my sins per 1 John 4:15 and thanked Jesus for dying for my sins. I believed that I was forgiven and trusted Jesus as my Lord and Savior per Romans 10:9. I know that I cannot loose my salvation because Jesus promised us in John 10:28-29 that no one can snatch them out of His hand. I believe this with my whole heart and soul and endeaver to tell as many people who will listen to do the same per Mark 16:15. I endeaver to live my life in a way that pleases Him. I stumble from time to time, but I confess my sins per 1 John 1:9 and He is faithful and just to forgive my sins and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. PTL!!!!

That's a good summary and also we know we can trust every word and promise God blesses us with.

When you say the list at the end, I'm a little confused. I noticed you're really good at explaining the Bible, so I'm wondering if the part about "endeaver to live my life in a way that pleases Him" is a requirement for salvation or your response to already having everlasting life?

When I say that I endeaver to live my life to please Him, I do this because I love Him and want to show Him that I am gratefu for what He sacrificed for me to be saved.

Many people I speak with get that part confused with the part about faith in our Savior. The reason is that most pastors teach that there are behavior requirements and various subtle works that have to be added to what Jesus already did. I can see that you would disagree with them.

Thanks for making your Biblical understanding so clear . I would say the same. Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us.

Mark 16:15

1 John 1:8-10~ If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the Truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His Word is not in us.

A small group Bible study leader took this as a salvation verse rather than an epistle/ letter to believers who were already Sa ed before they confessed any sins.

I try to teach this verse however, shortly after someone decides to trust Christ as their Savior. It's in a different context though.
The reason is that they will doubtless sin, so they need to know how to walk with the Lord and regain fellowship with Him. Without getting right with Him inasfar as forgiveness for fellowship, they will become miserable , ineffective and spiritually weak.

When they confess to Him, then receive that forgiveness, then they can walk with Him again with a clear conscience, and regain a hunger for the Word.

It is really: Saved by Grace Through Obedient Faith

If the faith one has does not produce obedience, then their faith is no better than the faith the devil has

James 2:19
You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!

I'm simply going by what the Lord said in James 2:19

The point being made is the only "faith" the devil has is he does acknowledge that God is real and God exists.

The devil has been corrupted and no longer has obedient faith so talking about him is a moot point because his fate is sealed and he will be spending eternity is the lake of fire.

People on the other hand need obedient faith in order to be right with the Lord.

The will of God is that we believe in the One He sent, so faith is obedience already.

Pssst, I can acknowledge you exist but that does not in any way mean that I necessarily have faith in you...
