God Himself tells us to do this in His Word.

I'm just curious as to how there could be any other answer but yes for a Christian?

What do you mean?
Are you asking should we always pray when we read the bible or is prayer optional when reading the bible.

Why are you reading the bible?

One can read it as lucky dip and pray bout the nice things one finds.

One can read sequential through the bible in big or small chunks, praying about what one fi ds.

One can use themes and read the bible studying a theme and pray about that.

One can read it in a year, or chapter by chapter, book by book, the important thing is to read it and to be open to what it says.
Praying does help one to be open to the Spirits leading.
It's like running a marathon, one doesn't decide I'll run 26 miles today, rather one starts by getting fit, running short distances, building up to running a marathon.
Equally start a habit of having a quite rime with God and build on that.

You would think, but some if these threads are so completely basic, that people have to ask on here. So, I thought I would put out and obvious one myself.

I’m not at all surprised that you apparently don’t know the answer.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing,

- 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17

O c’mon, can we even debate this? Some of these super intelligent higher up’s will go at least 10+ pages on this. By the end of it they will all be confused and mad. Lol

Hey sis. Is all this just entertainment for you? Is the Word of God to be slung around so irreverently?

To explain the existence of this thread:

- Burn said another thread was lame.
- I said Burn was free to start a thread he thought was better.
- Burn started this thread.

Burn1986 you didn't lay any groundwork at all for this thread, though. The first post is supposed to set the tone and parameters of the discussion at hand. In this case, since this is a "should we do this" thread, the first post should have at least put forth some pros and cons, maybe a single anecdote for either side, and your own reasons for believing we should be on one side or the other of the topic question.

So no, this is not a better thread than the one you said was lame. This is a pretty lazy thread. Much lamer than that other thread.

Sadly, this thread could have been so much more. If there had been some thought and work taken on its inception, we could have had a nice conversation here.

It's not too late to have a nice thread. Maybe it should be a thread to pray for others even when it's difficult. Or a prayer for edification. Or for praying for longsuffering with those who are a little different than us. Just brainstorming a little.

Since prayer and study are hallmarks of the Christian faith, we should make a practice of both.

"Your quote of "start a habit of having a quite rime with God and build on that" says it all!
Thank you, and I know you meant (quiet time) but hey, you come across with some soundness!" :) (y)

And the thread's very existence can be a regular reminder to read your Bible.

Speaking of which...

Behold, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves;
This is why we should read the Bible and pray
therefore, be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.- Matthew 10:16
It will give us wisdom to discern the manipulation of the Word and leave us uncharmed by the lies that attempt to rob us of our peace.

Yes, but if you're reading the Bible and praying only the way you're taught in church you'll probably get bored. Just being honest.

I look at the Bible as God showing his kingdom, but it contains religion. It's actually a practical guide for living life... in every way. In the garden of eden it was a utopian society where man was given abundance (every tree except 1) and yet man fixated on the minor 1 tree he didn't have. It's helpful for understanding God, people, yourself, and society as a whole. It shows you what societies work and do not. It teaches consequences for not including God and sining against God. But it also shows mercy and compassion from God.

It's a practical guide for business and finances. There's a reason jews are such a low population and yet have such a high percentage of the riches. Christians also have a great deal of the riches. But there are rules you must follow... and it's in the Bible. You are suppose to "leave an inheritance for your children's children." The parables that speak about money are talking about millions in them, but most people today don't understand what it's worth in today's society. Jesus was also rich, yet for our sakes became poor. When a king was born they inherited riches. That's why the 3 kings came to Jesus to worship him and give his inheritance... from God! That's also why king Herod felt threatened enough to kill all boys under 2.

But Christians today say oh no..... he wasn't rich. God says money is evil. He does not. He made it (gold) and even in Genesis said "God made gold. And the gold of the land was good." In the old testament God had to specifically say how rich Abraham was and in what bc people today would say....oh he meant he was "spiritually rich."

You will find your purpose reading the Bible. Aka your purpose is to serve man and be creative. It's not a coincidence that it also tends to produce great wealth, depending on how many people you serve. For example if you sell things online you make more money bc you're serving more people. This is a law to success. Evil people of course use it, but it's a law Christians can use as well. You're purpose also includes spreading God's word and telling people about God so their soul will be saved.

Praying is boring if you don't believe in it.... but if you believe God cares about you and your worries, prayer is effective. I don't repeat the same requests anymore. I ask once and then thank him that he's working on it and answering for me. Similar to if I asked my dad for something. I rarely ask for things (that pride ego) from my parents, but have in an emergency. When my dad says yes, I simply thank him every time. I don't keep asking bc know he keeps his word. God said he will give you the desires of your heart and I believe him. I'm asking for people to be healed, which he also fully supports and does. So there's no reason for it to not get answered. But I ask for things for myself too bc I believe nothing good happens without God and I like to have good days. 😆

I tried a simple minded/ dumbed down thread to see how basic some of the posters are. It’s amazing/ comical some of the responses.

Deep. So deep
