Inquiring Minds Need to Know: Is a Taco a Sandwich??!!

Our small town once had a food truck (tacos) that setup about twice a week.
Since I am not big on eating out, I would go there each week and get two tacos for $10 to be my evening meal.
Please do not think tex/mex, they should in no way be thought of in that way.
They were served in a soft tortilla. The one I always ordered had smoked pork with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and guacamole. Then she (the lady who ran the truck) drizzled it with what appeared like french dressing, although it did not taste like french dressing.
The recipe must have been from God Himself.
But alas, nothing lasts forever! About six months the lady retired. I've been crying ever since!
No, a Taco is not a sandwich, it's a Taco!

No joke! I have eaten a Pizza sandwich before. Put two pieces of pizza together, face to face. The crust is bread, right? So it's a sandwich. A delicious, cheesy sandwich.

Oh my goodness, @BillyBob, you had me wanting to RUN, not walk to that taco truck just to try it out for myself -- until I read the part about the lady retiring.

I can eat a sandwich and drive without a mess, but not a taco.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've tried eating at Taco Bell -- I just don't like their food at all, so I have to make my own with yes, those dreaded pre-made packets.

I know any good home cook would probably be horrified, and I've always had the ambitions to make my own seasoning blend, but I've just never pulled up the gumption to buy all the spices needed, especially if I didn't the results and never used them again.

You know what's funny?

Tacos are one of those foods that I have an extreme binge/avoidance relationship with. I'm either really really craving them or want nothing to do with them for weeks or even months.

The inspiration for this thread was that I had gotten one of my undeniable taco cravings last week, and have been eating them every day.

I know it will wear off soon, but in the meantime...

Taco Bell is the McDonalds of Mexican food. It is probably a good thing that you do not particularly care for their food.

Have you considered something in between the extremes - like using a good healthy hot sauce in a jar that you can buy at a local grocery store? (if you can find such a thing at a local grocery store)

Do you have any health food stores near you that sell grocery items? If so, you might find it worthwhile to see what they have...

For the record I never claimed Taco Bell is GOOD. It's all we got here in Nowhere, Tennessee. We don't even have a Taco John's, but I hear it's miles better than Taco Bell.

And if we're going by how easy it is to eat while driving without making a big mess, a burrito is closer than a taco to a sandwich. You can eat a burrito, even a tasteless Taco Bell burrito, while driving and not spill a drop or crumb.

Hey, I just realized that when I load them up with guacamole and salsa
and shredded cheddar and beans etc they are like mini sandwiches! LOL
