My sis has been trying to get me to move south and make use of her property for years now. And, if not, at least come for a visit. Should I start the conversation with her with, "I'm finally going to be able to make the trip" or "I might be bringing some friends with me, 14 at the most" ?

Make that 15 - I am definitely signing up if it's a chance to meet our own infamous @Mem. Just don't make me roast/rotisserie/slow cook any of my favorite Winnie the Pooh characters.

And according to @Lynx's plan to fit in everyone's luggage, looks like I'll also be kicking poor unsuspecting kid off the bus.

Unthinkable. What's a road trip without an annoying kid in tow? I wouldn't trade seeing @Lynx "annoyed" face.

Will it be like this?

or more like this?

Oh trust me.

@Lynx will be driving.

He'll make up for all 15 annoying kids we could have crammed onto the bus (17 if we toss out everyone's bags) -- and then some.:ROFL::p

(That's what he gets for picking on Winston!)

What y'all talking bout? This is 2024. I'll just put a wireless earbud in my ear and listen to some music, screen y'all out.

And Winston is the REAL annoying kid. Be lucky if he doesn't "accidentally" fall out the bus window.

Herbert looks like a nice, chill dude.

So we gonna do this meetup or what?
I'm thinking maybe early next year when things have calmed down a bit, we might be able to look into having a virtual meetup? Much safer, more convenient, and little to no expense except internet service. And no one would even have to show their faces if they didn't want to.

If you help me figure out the tech, maybe we can figure something out?

And I'm thinking that as a test run, we might try an RSVP -- limit it to 30 people or so, if that many were even interested -- just so that we could get the hang of how to manage things, greet people, facilitate interations, etc.

Just throwing out ideas -- any feedback/suggestions across the board are welcome.

We won't be able to decide anything about a virtual meetup until we see what the new CC chat framework will be.

I mean... We COULD always just adjourn to Skype or Zoom or something, but that wouldn't be strictly ethical if Robo is trying to get an in-house chat going again.

It's HEbert, but you can call him "Hebes" for short.

Your first thought of October0ish will provide a year to work out the details, should be more than sufficient time, even accounting that it works out to be sooner. For example, if only five coming along that's about $400/person van rental expense and each can save up/set aside accordingly, allot time or accumulate pto, etc.

Oh of course.

A CC venue would be my first choice to support the site -- but it depends on how fast it happens.

If there's nothing available here by the time we would want to hold one, there obviously wouldn't be a choice but to use something else.

We'd have to do some brainstorming. And I wouldn't see it as ethical to publicly announce an actual gathering here that would be held on another site, so I guess we'd have to start a thread to see who was interested, then I'd have to start some sort of private message email newsletter.

Since it's impossible to coordinate everyone's schedule, I wouldn't even try, unless we miraculously got mostly all people who were all available at the same time. We'd just have to set a day, time, and place and tell people, "Hey, this is going down at such-and-such-time and on such-and-such place, would you want to stop by?" Like I said, i think the first go should probably be RSVP, so we have an idea of what we're in for.

And if it went well, we'd switch to using CC as soon as it became available.

But if it all got to be too much work, we'd have to scratch the whole idea. Helpful suggestions would always be welcome, but naysayers and complainers who have contributed nothing to the work needed to put into something like this would be publicly announced as the organizers of the next meetup. And we would expect no less than perfection from them. :)

But no one can say we haven't at least thought about it. :D

And now I see Lynx is about off to as good of a start with Hebes as he was with Winston.

I'm thinking Lynx just doesn't have what it takes to get along with stuffed friends.:p:cool:

Never mind that I'm sure I would have made the same mistake at some point, but thank you for giving us the heads up with "Hebes." ❤️

I'll stick with that -- because everyone knows you should never misidentify a sloth!

Heebie-Jeebies looks like he's cool enough to take a bit of nomenclatural miscommunication here and there without getting torqued.

So what I'm getting is... October 2025 in Orlando?

I call him Hebetude when he gets snippy with me. But I asked him if it bothered him and he just blinked really slow and said, "meh."

There's annual orchid shows all the way up to Dec in Florida. The mister bought me a pack of 5 orchid starts and I was looking forward to sniffing the "Sharry Baby" which was among them. Supposedly, it smells like chocolate. But... I've only managed to get one to bloom, and only one time and the id tags are lost but I'm pretty sure it was just an ordinary run of the mill Walmart variety that I never thought to take a whiff of. So, yes, personally, I'd be interested in Florida if only for that reason. But then, I've yet to look up the interests any other spots might offer.

A sloth that gets snippy? How is that even a thing?

Sloths are incredible. They survive specifically because they don't move like prey, so to predators they don't register as prey, and because they don't have enough muscle mass - meat - to be worth eating. They are the Slackware of the animal kingdom.
