Hey Everyone,

I've recently had the privilege of enjoying a good friend's baking talents, currently in the form of home-ground, homemade, multi-grain bread. And so, I've been enjoying a piece of toast with every meal for the last few days.

Last night, I accidently left my poor beloved appetizer in the toaster just a LITTLE too long -- and man, I didn't enjoy it nearly as much, because to me, it just tasted like burnt cardboard.

But the thing is, if toast readiness was graded in a similar fashion as a steak, I pretty much like my toast very "rare."

And so, let the latest controversial discussion topic begin!!! (I know this has been discussed in the past, but it's always fun to see what the current crop of CC'ers have to say.)

* Is toast only for breakfast? At what other meals do you eat toast?

* What are your favorite ways to have toast? What things do you like to put on it -- dairy butter, peanut butter, jam, applesauce, mayonnaise? (Clearly, whoever answers mayo is a sinner and must repent, unless it's in a sandwich. And even then...)

* What kinds of sandwiches do you enjoy toasted? Is a panini really just regular toast that's trying to pass as snobby high-society food?

1727183487808.jpeg

* And, most crucial of all, how do YOU like your toast?!

(Beware: all answers you type here are public and you may be judged because of them!)

I personally like my toast around the, "This Is Just Hot Bread" stage. with a good helping of salted butter. The toast I accidently toasted too long was about the shade of, "This is Toast, But It's Furious at You" -- and yes, it must have been mad at me, because it tasted like it had been set on fire.

How about you -- how do you like your toast, and what is your opinion of toast being toasted at any other level?!

Furious or a bit lighter. Vegemite is essential, with a slice of cheese and some tomato optional. Any time of day is fine. Hot bread is not toast and I'm very good at carbonising toast. Even Vegemite does not help in that case.

Yes, I am with you on this one, also .:D. Slightly crisped, with a bit of crunch, but not too much...
Good to see a fellow CC'er who likes things only "lightly toasted" as well.

I have heard of the legendary Vegemite, but have never had the chance to try it...

Once upon a time, Australia and New Zealand were at the top of my travel bucket list. But now due to motion sickness, claustrophobia, and the insane expense and hassle of traveling, I don't know if I'll ever get there -- but one of these days I'm going to have to track down this mystical condiment...

I know I could order some from Amazon, but I wish I could buy it in a shop that pretends to be at least halfway authentic -- like when I purchased what was supposed to be authentic British tea from a tea house in the USA ran by two British women. :)

I prefer grilled over toast over toasted. Top it with cheese and ham or bacon. Also like to top it with cheese, a slice of tomato, and a thin slice of onion.

I like the furious toast. Toast with butter, dipped in coffee. Toast with Nutella is also good. I don't really like paninis since everything is melted together, but I prefer toasted bread for sandwiches.

If I'm just snacking on toast, which is acceptable anytime of day, I like it at about finally, with butter on it (not margarine). If I'm preparing buttered toast to dip in my very runny eggs, I guess I like it somewhere between warm bread and finally. That way it has some flex and that makes it easier to scoop up a good bit of egg with it. My preference in most cases is sourdough bread. I use toast for BLT sandwiches and like those at finally too.

Oh wow... When skimming for pics, I caught a glimpse of a recipe for this using an air fryer -- I'm definitely going to have to check this out!

All right, Everyone...

This ⬆️⬆️⬆️ was @NightTwister's contribution!

What do y'all think? Does this still count as toast?!

(Let's have a show of hands... or maybe, butter knives.)
Well... I mean... You can propose a toast with it.

i use different temps for toast, sometimes light or medium level. the spread will be either extra virgin olive oil, organic butter, jam, or honey. your 2nd, 3rd & 4th choices are also mine. a BLT, sometimes tunafish on toast is all i make a sandwich with.

And it's toasted too!!!
And it can also make you feel toasty.

Or is that whiskey? I don't know much about that stuff. But I hear some people drink some kind of alcoholic stuff to take the edge off the chill.

The hard stuff will get you toasted quicker and does work as an anti-freeze. I still remember when my car broke down in Idaho when it was -17º. And before any of you ask if that's F or C, at that point what difference does it make?

In Australia it's Vegemite. In New Zealand it's Marmite. NEVER NEVER EVER EVER EVER confuse the two or you will be banished to breakfast hell forever. They both taste like tar, btw.

Good golly.

First it was Miracle Whip Hell.

Now it seems like I'm dangling dangerously close to Breakfast Hell as well.

Is there ANYTHING having to do with food or meals that DOESN'T have a specially designated place in hell, or am I just out of luck?! :oops:o_O:cry:
