What's in Your Wallet? (Or Purse?)

Hey Everyone,

You've probably heard the Chase commercial asking, "What in YOUR Wallet?" I thought it would be fun to ask our intrepid CC crowd here.

In other words, what do you usually carry with you?

I envy the people who can get away with carrying as little as possible, but unfortunately, I am not one of them. I know that women get teased for carrying "everything but the kitchen sink" in their bags (and if we can fit it in, we just might,) but I've observed that women are often carrying things for OTHER people (husband and kids,) which is often why their bags are so big.

My Dad teases my Mom for carrying around what seems like 40 pounds in her purse, but he's the first to ask her for his reading glasses whenever he needs to read something that isn't on a billboard.

How about you?

What do you carry with you on daily basis and why?


My daily essentials include (and this is only the basics):

* Keys and wallet, of course, but with at least 2 cards in case one has a tech failure, cash as a last resort, plus any gift cards I might be able to use.

* Mirror (call it vanity, but don't we all wish someone had told us about the broccoli that got stuck in our teeth at lunch?!)

* (And on that note,) a small roll of dental floss or floss picks.

* Lip balm or stick, eye drops, lotion (dry skin or eyes is very uncomfortable, sometimes even painful for me.)

* Mini makeup bag for touch ups (eyebrows, blush, powder, concealer.) Some women look fantastic without makeup -- and I envy them. But I wear what I consider just the basics, and my own mother asks if I have the flu when I don't. Unfortunately, the application doesn't last, and often needs a little pick-me up if it's a long day.

* Pen and pencil (you never know when I might want to take notes -- such as for future CC threads!) and for me, it's easier than typing. Also a list of emergency contact numbers on paper just in case my phone fails or is stolen.

* Medications.

* Extra hair bands (you never know when one might break, or when someone else might need one for themselves or their child.)

* Mints, because of course everyone could use a mint now and then (even when they don't think they do!)

* Phone and portable charger.

I understand that there is a thought that phones are evil, but mine is a necessity. First and foremost, I like having it for safety -- sadly, there are lots of homeless/people not in their right mind in the region where I live, no matter where you go.

Secondly, I use it for a myriad of purposes -- looking up info on products (ingredient lists, etc.), a calculator for comparing prices, a clock/alarm and calendar, GPS, camera for sending pics of products to those I shop for, pending their approval... Because yes, before a friend dragged me kicking and screaming into the world of smart phones, I used to carry all those separate things with me -- and it was a pain.

Unsurprisingly, my purse is definitely more like a mini-backpack:

what I carry on mine is just the basics of where I go but on a regular basis I carry my portable charger (always make sure its fully charged), my phone (fully charged as well) some coupons from the store (if there is any) my wallet (make sure I have mi ID and all cards included (in my wallet I have several cards), a pen, a scrunchie, my sunglasses, a mini hand sanitizer, a mini hand lotion, and my keys.

Also depending of what I bring is the size of the bag.

a guitar pick, free cofee cupon ive never used, gift cards ive never used, some cash sometimes.

in my mini backpack, websters, if i have room, a kindle, way of the master, band-aids, my current book, notebook, paper, writings i wrote a long time ago, deodorant, benadril, just in case, my bible, breath mints, if possible, my copy of wreck this journal, about 27 pens, 4-7 from my church, my mp3 player, my bt earbuds, and whatever else, usually snacks.

in my pockets, usually my wallet, 17 pens, 2 pencils, dice, my watch, my to do list, index cards with notes to self, papers, a token, and on my wrist, my charm bracelet.

well how big is your bag?

small backpack.

most of these items are tiny. only websters, is big,(preferably the 3rd new international edition(about 8 inches thick!))

What charms do you have on it and what do they mean to you?

a cross charm.(somewhat obvious meaning ther, as i was saved recently.) other than that, nothing, since i actually made it for myself.

I always see neat charms in stores but never buy them... My favorites are the miniatures that actually work (bottles with removable tops; doors and containers that open; tiny books with real paper.)

I've always wanted to make a charm bracelet that had charms to represent the different seasons and things that are important in my life.

Keys, phone and wallet. Sometimes some headphones depending on where I'm going.
In my wallet is some cash, a debit card, drivers license and misc cards from doctors offices that I never use or look at.
I have a small bottle of hand sanitizer I keep in my car that I sometimes take with me when going into places.
That's about it.

Wallet.

Sharpie marker. Writes on stuff a pen won't write on.

Fingernail clippers, in case of hangnail.

Combination multitool and keys. I took apart an allen wrench and put my house keys and various tools on it. Also found a blade I liked, so I put nine of those on it.

Phone. Without a case, I just put it behind my wallet in my pocket.

I find it particularly fascinating to hear about what guys carry with them, seeing as they really do pare it down to just the essentials...

And it's very interesting to see what each individual person considers "essential."

It's simple. I have my cellphone (loaded with a Bible app with a library of Bibles and related books) in my left pocket. I have my keys and a pocket knife in my right pocket. I have my wallet with my IDs, credit and debit cards, and a few dollars cash in my back pocket.

Anything else I need, I call AAA or my son.

So women will often lament that much of our clothing is made without pockets -- and even if we do get pockets, they're extremely small and hardly functional (which is purpose, of course, because smaller/no pockets means less fabric, which costs manufacturers less.)

Now I have to wonder...

Are the pockets on men's clothing made to be much more rugged and sturdy?

I've put my keys in my jeans pocket a few times, but knew if I continued to do so, the fabric would quickly wear through (especially with all those sharp edges from the keys.)

I wish I could trust my back pocket to something important, but it would never feel secure enough for me to keep anything of value there.

* Do men ever have problems with the pockets on their clothes wearing out because of using them daily?

* Do men often have to replace pants/jeans because the pockets are no longer functional?

As I have never worn women's clothing, I have no idea.

As you know what the pockets in women's clothing are like, the best thing to do would probably be go down to the store and feel the pockets on men's pants. The pants on shelves, not the ones being worn.

i never have used or presently use a wallet. i carry about $1,500 with me on the average mostly to purchase antiques at any given time. other than that, keys & various cards.
