D. Stands for Vitamin D Deficiency.
Most folks in institutions, long term care like nursing homes are grossly deficient in vitamin D. The only time they are outside, they are placed in the shade under a porch roof. They are usually covered up so much they get little to no benefits from the sunshine. The nurses and food services provide no dietary D3. Therefore, they are all depressed, especially non summer months when they are cooped in their building like a cave. When they are upset from discomfort and loneliness, it is no wonder if they would say they want to die when suggested by a physician. Instead of providing low cost nutrients, he offers the hospice "comfort care solution." That is what the damned medical industry calls Compassion. They are damned because the hell bound leaders of the industry have convinced the general public that their definition of "compassion and comfort care" is the same ones that family members think of when they use them. This is why I am not hard on them. It is certain medical staff, media and government policy makers who have invested billions of tax $ to push their campaigns. We are not likely going to convince some, but please do everything you can to teach your own family. It takes a lot of honest information and biblical ethics to undo the years of scientific programming those institutions have done to our people.
Who does not know that the medical establishment is not in the business of propping up the
alternative health industry, while being in the pockets of big pharma? How difficult would it be for
anyone to provide their own institutionalized aging parents with vitamin D? Who put the parents there?

I know what you mean. I've recommended that for many years when speaking to those children and the disabled.

In my limited experiences we've learned that you have to just do it without asking permission. Staff from the dietitians to the Drs are dismissive, reluctant and more often than not to deny residents vitamin/ mineral supplements. Family has to put the parents first, do their own homework and disregard the intimidation of the caretakers denial of the D3 or whatever supplements. Ideally, the caregivers would help provide those with meals at the request of the residents and their children. I'm sure many nurses do in other areas and perhaps yours. In my area, it's like sneaking contraband past the guards. Just to provide fresh ginger root for tea to calm an upset stomach has to get approval from the physicians.
