Here's one for you. I know what I think about this, but I'm interested in what other people think about it.

John 6:12 - When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.

Jesus fed the 5,000 with five loaves and two fishes, but at the end he told his disciples to gather up all the leftovers. We want to make sure nothing of this is lost.

When I bake a 30 loaf batch of sourdough bread, I'm not too concerned about fragments. If one loaf sticks terribly, or if a whole four loaf oven set gets burned, I can always make more. But Jesus, who can do anything at will, wanted to make sure that none of the food was lost.

Why? Couldn't he always make more if he wanted?

In Lutheran school, they impressed upon us that Jesus was setting the example that we need to make the most of what we have/utilize before always asking, expecting or just getting more.

It was an act of good stewardship. If you just throw away the scraps every time figuring you can have more, you don't appreciate all of what you have in the moment. It can also put you in a situation where you have to get creative (I can see you putting all kinds of experimental things you find at the salvage grocery on those leftover pieces.)

I'm sure others could also say it was showing that God uses everything, even leftovers...

Sorry.

I might not even be close, but I think that's what they were trying to teach us in school.

Also, about those 30-loaf batches of sourdough bread... Uh. If you have a few leftover loaves.

We'd really hate to see them go to waste.:p:geek:

Unfortunately I haven't made any since Grandma broke her hip. She would get really antsy if there wasn't somebody in her field of view all the time.

My starter is long since dead. I have been thinking about starting a new starter though. You can make one from scratch, just by mixing up the ingredients and waiting for the yeast that is already in the flour to cultivate.

Remember that it says that Jesus spoke in parables and without a parable he spoke not ? I also , when I read the Bible , do a little test . There can b 3 meanings to everything in the Bible , there is of course the literal , then the metaphorical and then the spiritual . Do that little test and c what u come up with 😁 .

So I guess that means Lynx is supposed to whip up a meal of bread and fish...

And you and I are supposed to start lining up for the leftovers.

(Maybe @Tazzo can bring the buckets to carry all those bits of fish and bread in... Reference to her "Weird Habits" thread.) :geek:

My very own buckets that I have bought?! or should I start to queue for some free buckets now?
Well, I do have enough buckets either way  I can bring some without queueing.

@Lynx what fish are you going to use for the meal? And is there a rye bread available as well? :D

Oh, I made 5 bread and 2 fishes, but those were all bread, when I studied my (what an earth it is in english...) professional bakers degree (??), well, anyway, something after the basic bakers studies, not the master one, of course...

So hopefully Lynx is going to use actual fish for the meal..

But weird thing was, non-christians (at school or at my workplace) do not know about 5 bread 2 fishes story, I thought surely they would have heard it in their childhood, school etc.. Coming from a Christian family, I thought everyone knew that story 😅

NOT EDIBLE???

I've been hoodwinked!

Bamboozled!

Taken for a ride -- and there aren't even any edible snacks!:cry::cry:

Well, at least I'll have a gorgeous piece of EDIBLE-LOOKING art to gaze upon -- while I starve to death.:cool::ROFL::geek:
