Are they going to strengthen our Economy, or weaken it?
Are they going to drive up the cost of pretty much everything?
IMO, they are going to end up hurting the average person. Especially low income people/families. There is no way the Manufacturers are going to "eat the rising cost" of producing their product(s). They are going to do what they always do, PASS IT ON!
Honestly, I do not understand Trumps thinking on this. Tariffs never help in the way those imposing them want. Buckle up and start cutting Coupons now..... sigh ...........
I'm by no means an expert on this subject but I do understand a few things.
The current direction of our economy and national debt is not sustainable. There has to be change or eventually inflation will cause riots and economic collapse once essentials become too expensive.
Tariffs are good at forcing other countries to equal trade deals. They also create an incentive for businesses to return or invest in our economy to bypass the tariffs on imports. I saw recently that Trump is also giving a gold card incentive to bring in foreign investors.
The race has begun to control the newly accessed waterway of the artics and it has become increasingly aware that we should be striving to become a majority self-reliant country.
We must drill our own oil and rare minerals, sell to Europe to wean them off of Russian oil, and wean us off of the Chinese rare mineral monopoly. As to why a mineral deal in Ukraine would be great. If we could set up a base in Greenland to help defend the Arctic waterways, that would also help secure future trade routes.
We recently bombed the Houthis because they were attacking and disrupting a major trade route in the Red Sea.
I read somewhere that 25% of US GDP is traded goods compared to the world average of 59%. That alone gives us leverage to strong-arm better trade and a buffer for economic consumers.
As for government waste and government spending budgets, they have only tiptoed into the pool of waste that needs to be eliminated. 14 trillion dollars in debt, we can not keep spending and wasting money on departments or programs that statistically or in common sense have failed or were useless from the beginning.
Our government is bloated and the military has been hijacked by DEI, LGBT, and One World Order sympathizers.
Overall, tariffs are a great start for long-term success. Now we wait to see if Congress can do its job and secure tax breaks and eliminate the Department of Education.
Unfortunately, the long term is only sustainable with a long-term plan. A 4-year term may not be long enough to slow the train down and back it up from the cliff.
Short-term fixes and temporary comfort buys votes. No one wants to work hard and suffer the toil of hard work. We want to place the band-aids over the bullet wounds and immediately look away.
It is time we suffer for a while to give our kids and grandkids a chance at life, liberty, and the road to prosperity.
