Hello Hope in Him.
You're right, apples have a cyanide compound too. From what I recall it's a different cyanide compound, but haven't studied the chemistry of the form in bamboo.
I eat the seeds when I eat apples for the B17. I don't tell others to though. They never made me sick or experience symptoms.

A lot of people use certain fruit seeds to treat their tumors.

Here's a documentary on the topic if you want to learn more. The entire film is good and gets into B17 apple seed segment around the 22:00 minute mark.

Thank you for your prayers . 😊
Yes I was aware they contain B17. Well conventional medicines have side effects too so... lol

Update:

I am doing much better as I continue to eat the cleansing wild detox greens that the Lord has provided for this time of year. I have a groundhog in the crockpot with various greens that support liver function. Eating right and feeling the goodness.
😊 I appreciate your prayers @CarriePie, @crmvet, @CommodoreTeach, @HopeinHim98 ,@Suze ,@tourist, @ZNP, @Mouse_Cheeks, @2ndTimeIsTheCharm

For some others who think bamboo is like picking a mystery mushroom in the forest without a field guide, keep in mind that hundreds of millions of people eat bamboo shoots regularly with no ill effects.

I've read lots of articles that give no Indication of toxicity. The neighbor assured me hers was completely edible and she eats it every season and had no reason to doubt her.
It is golden bamboo as the labelled stand at a University Arboretum that I taught classes at.

It might seem strange to some city folks, but many people who raise gardens share their extra produce.
The plant may seem strange, but this is a common cultivar in many countries.
My neighbor was given Jerusalem Artichokes which are a special variety of sunflower that is a delicacy and super food. The root looks much like little potatoes. They grow wild 😯,
but mine were a domesticated variety that are seasonally sold at Krogers in the produce section.

A friend dropped by on the way home yesterday and left with gooseberry plants to propagate for his family.
He was offered cactus too. My variety is edible and even sold at my local Krogers. That seems odd, but many people eat it after proper preparation. It already is in the jar and I use it for salsa.

I did a search with the question below. The first website that came up was published from Gardening Know How. It has the Q&A in the body of the article below. Everything is here unredacted from the question down.

"Are Bamboo Shoots Edible?
Are bamboo shoots edible? Bamboo shoots are edible in most varieties and provide a nice crunch in stir fries and other recipes. In many Asian countries, bamboo shoots as vegetables are harvested as a national crop. The shoots are classic ingredients in Chinese and other Asian foods, but result from the sprouts of new growth on a mature bamboo plant. Not only are bamboo shoots edible but they are low in fat and calories, easy to grow and harvest, as well as containing loads of fiber and potassium. They have a very mild taste but they accept the flavors of other foods easily and can blend into almost any cuisine. Bamboo shoots need to be peeled before using in cooking, as the culm has a thick, almost woody, exterior that is hard to chew. Inside the peel is a softer texture with a slightly sweet but benign flavor. Culms or shoots are harvested at two weeks or when just about the size of a mature ear of sweet corn. The sprouting season for harvesting bamboo shoots is in spring and lasts only about three to four weeks. The best tasting sprouts are very young and harvested prior to emerging from the soil, but you can mound dirt over any that have surfaced to keep the sprout tender and allow it to grow larger.
How to Grow Bamboo Shoots for Eating
Any gardener with a stand of bamboo can easily harvest and enjoy their own shoots. The tender growths are best when harvested before showing their tips above the soil. Excavate around the base of the main plant to find the shoots and excise them with a sharp knife. You can grow them larger by covering the tips with a heap of soil to prevent the shoot from meeting the light, which will harden the sheath. Harvesting bamboo shoots early provides the highest nutrient density and best texture and flavor. The new shoots have crispness similar to young asparagus but must be peeled and cooked for 20 minutes prior to ingestion to remove the woody exterior and any bitterness in the shoot. Growing bamboo shoots as vegetables will increase the diversity of your family's diet and add dimension to your recipes."
-END OF ARTICLE-

Notice, there's nothing about the pouring off the water after boiling.
My shoots were mostly tender under the tough leafy exterior. Some were very tender, but not bitter.

Since I had toxicity symptoms, be aware that even some domestic crops should be boiled first and the toxins poured off.
For instance, We take potatoes for granted as safe, but they contain oxalates that cause arthritis when not properly prepared. There's a case of public school children dying from their hot lunch. They got an overdose of the potatoes' toxin.

Tomatoes used to be considered poisonous too.

My example is certainly one where I take full responsibility.
I should have done more diligence before eating, instead of takimg for granted the canned ones I am accustomed with and neighbor's recommendation. We live and learn from life experiences.
Next time I eat bamboo shoots I will know to prepare them properly first.
I hope that others will too as they point fingers at those of us trying to eat healthy food while they reach for their remote control next to their Pepsi Cola. 🥤🥴📺

🍵😎
Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.
Big hug to my brothers and sisters!
The first time I googled can you eat bamboo shoots, it told me no, they have cyanide in them.

Is your phone trying to kill you?

The medical doctors sure have tried hard.
You avoided my questions.
Those were rhetorical questions. They were designed to state your position, not to elicit a question. Or if they were not rhetorical, they sure looked like it.

Yeah, the phone thing doesn't make sense. If anybody's phone is trying to kill him, it should be mine.

I'm using a jelly star, a tiny little phone made by unihertz. It is small enough to use easily with one hand, but it is still a completely functional Android phone that can do anything a normal size phone can do. That company that makes it is based in Shanghai china, about as much China as you can get. So one would think my phone would be trying to kill me before anybody else's.

Maybe my service provider is protecting me. I use an mvno, basically a middleman that buys the leftover bandwidth from one of the big providers and turns around and sells it to me dirt cheap. Their profit margins can't be any bigger than razor thin, so they probably need to keep all the customers they've got. If I bought directly from AT&t or verizon, they probably wouldn't have nearly as much motivation to protect me from potentially deadly results.

Just from curiosity, what is your phone model and service provider?

Since you are one of the people who have taken time to learn about this and you managed a health food store, you might appreciate this interview.

B17 Laetrile Interview < "
Caption to the video:
Josh Sigurdson talks with John Richardson, son of renowned Dr. John Richardson Sr who found alongside Dr. Ernst T Krebs that apricot seeds contained amygdaline, laetrile (Vitamin B17) and could be used to treat, prevent and possibly cure cancer. This used to be common knowledge many decades ago, but has been covered up enormously over the years in order to promote dangerous chemo therapy treatment. In this video, we talk about laetrile, cyanide and debunk many of the attacks on apricot seeds by establishment shills."

What do you think?

Think the bamboo is trying to kill him.
Laetrile, Apricot Seeds, Cyanide and Cancer<
In this interview, this man was nearly killed by surgeons and an oncologist at a famous hospital. He gives a touching testimony of how God helped him to be cured by using something from creation with directions from an expert. It's worth the entire time to watch or listen. You might have known someone with cancer.

I tried apricot kernels on someone and she still died of cancer. It could have been the source of the kernels, but I'd caution anyone trying this it may not be the silver bullet you're hoping for. Like David took five stones to slay Goliath, I'd recommend you try this one only with several other (complementary) treatments.

Tofu is helpful to about 33% of people with malignant cancer. I used Essiac and it worked for my cancer.

Thank you for the information.
I never looked at any treatment as a silver bullet. I wish it were that simple and agree with you.

Some of the presenters of either the medical model of chemo or like the laetrile from seeds fail to mention that their patients should improve diet, like eliminating inflammatory foods and toxins.

For instance, I doubt that oncologists tell their patients to quit using body chemicals like antiperspirants. I've had many say there's dishes of candy/ sugar in the IV chemical rooms. They KNOW that sugar feeds the tumors like miracle grow.

Bless your heart for trying to help them. Btw, I would like to learn from their experience. Can you share other details like the stage when they started the seeds and any other treatments they tried prior or during?

Only one patient! :) I don't recall much, just ordering a heap of apricot kernels, and her eating them several times a day, until the point where her mouth and gums were sore from them. I think it was stage 4 lung cancer when she was diagnosed. I believe she continued her other medications (e.g. diabetes medicine), which probably contributed to the cancer in the first place. No chemotherapy or radiation.

Glad to hear that you are still among the quick. I believe that apricot pits have cyanide also. I don't see you having any long-term side effects. Even most medicines are poisonous to some degree. Praying for a complete recovery for you.
Apricot seeds, pits, contain Amygdalin. If eaten the digestive processes convert that to Cyanide.

Castor Oil has very good healing properties. Castor Oil. Whereas Castor beans contain Ricin. One of the deadliest toxins known to man.

Plants, trees, are God's medicine cabinet. You have to know what's there or you can get very badly hurt. Or,die.

Thank you for the information. There are over 1000 species of Bamboo. Who knew?

I figured if the Pandas are happy munching,it can't be all that risky. Plus, you see cans of Bamboo shoots in Asian markets so it's easy to think the wild Bamboo is able to be harvested.

I'm glad you're doing better.

Still praying for you.

Thank you so much!

It wasn't mentioned on the websites that I first checked, but even the edible varieties must be processed properly to make it safe. Bamboo and cassava are two common Asian crop foods with the cyanide.
There's a common cyanide problem on cattle farms too. Cherry trees after a storm and the fall drop leaves that cattle will eat. They are a hazard I was warned about at college.

I'm still having brain fog but improving. I'm going To harvest some ginko biloba this week. That should help. My local friends must not be using theirs because I kept asking for some we harvested after Mom died.
My dehydrator had issues so it got moldy and had to throw mine away.
It would have helped from the beginning of I could have used it then. It has brain protective properties.

I just listened to a summary of a book written by a dentist who nearly died from mercury poisoning. She had exposure from removing the silver colored mercury amalgam fillings.
There are a lot of toxins throughout our environment, food and water. Reactions are usually dependant on dosage and our body's ability to remove the load.
I am surprised to learn that even now, lots of dentists use multiple toxic heavy metals to fill cavities. I'm just thinking this over tonight and sharing it for our Christian Chat community. Perhaps my example and these other considerations we bring up can benefit others.
