Work, work, work, work, sweat, sweat, sweat, ...
... Romans 6:11 reckon that long enough it becomes you the new you, no more thinking about sin that brings more sin as in Romans 7 reveals to God's kids to see how to stop sin from Gods alone for them, Ready, set. go thank you for your post
Amen !
I'd like to add, to your " Work, work, ... Sweat, sweat " = Pray, Pray, Pray & keep our spiritual eye on Jesus, and His Righteousness.
"Walking in the spirit, rather than the flesh." Gal. 5:16-26 ... walking in the flesh = SIN

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty with which Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." Gal 5:1
"yoke of bondage" = the bondage of sin, sin = The transgression of God's moral law. ~~ 1 John 3:4

"maintaining our repentance". "Stand fast" = (Easier said, than done, of course) ... BUT, by having Faith in Christ, unto repentance, prayer and being led by the Holy Spirit, (rather than the anti-Christ spirit,) ~~ WE SHALL OVERCOME ~~ ( Rev. 3:21, 1 Peter 5:8, John 16:33,
Romans 12:21) ... as we continue, Paul's "Good Fight" of sanctification.

I pray daily, for repentance and "to follow", walking as Jesus walked, righteously, and "Dear Lord, put in me a clean spirit, so that I may be a better witness to You, a better disciple of your Truth, Your Way, to Your Life, eternal." ~~ Amen

Thanks for the post. I would think the 7 things you have there would be the right response to having eternal life, than the means of getting or keeping eternal life.

Eternal salvation vs daily service
Eternal salvation the gift from God through risen Son to us
Daily service to God the response, Psalm 100:4, 103:12 to me at least

Matthew 18:15-20

Dealing with a Sinning Brother
15 “Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.
16 But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’
17 And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.
18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
19 “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.
20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

Your thoughts.
There is a double edged sword here on earth a good side and a bad side. that evil uses and appears as if good to get others in it's control and people many times do not see it or know it

Yet, God is stronger than any double edged sword
It is good to do good. It his not good to be rewarded for doing good by others, a sitting in Moses' seat, so to speak. Pride enters from that and one, anyone can be convinced they got it as talked about in Phil 3 to not put any confidence in self or others trying to get you excited over them doing good things.

Only, Father, (Holy Spirit) can take you further in seeing truth over errors in this world still here of flesh nature deceiving many. Yet God, the Father of the Son those two One (Won) for us to hear new being revealed truth from Father within us each personally. As those born new too will know and see others that are in too. By the grace pouring through them, even if others try to belittle them in front of others. The new by God, do not respond with anger and God will get you for that attitude, flesh does that on its own I did it before seeing truth over error in the new life given me by God to love all, not a few any longer as did.
So, agree with God and be dead to self Romans 6:1-12. Now that Baptism in those verses, is not specific to being Spirit Baptism or Water Baptism. Ask Father you will know

About going to the other person you see in a sin, first consider the self, will you remain spiritual when tell others they need that or that or this to be well. to or I saw you do that or this, and then get witnesses to do what, condemn them?
Galatians 6:1-8

Authorized (King James) Version

Gal 6:7-8

7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

I used to ask God to forgive me of the things I did wrong, not acting as a child of our Father in heaven.

Then one day when sat praying the above I honestly felt the Holy Spirit say "What about the sins you committed you didn't know you committed"

I did that and boy was it an eye opener.

It's easy to confess what you know but hard to accept what you didn't know.

But praise God he has given us the Holy Spirit to conform us to the image of Jesus.
That's it, "But praise God he has given us the Holy Spirit to conform us to the image of Jesus."

I got caught up under Law, and had to confess and confess, and try to find all, even those I could not remember, or I would never be good enough to tell others. What a Lie from Evil!!!!

What a stress this had on me, a Focus so deep in my unworthiness, I could not help anyone else in their troubles, (not that I can presently) Only God can and did through Son once for us all to rest in trust for God's lead daily, at least me. How freeing to see now differently, from Father's view, not my own or anyone else's anymore.
It is all Daddy, PaPa, Father and Son as Won (One) for each person to choose willingly and willing go through troubles as well. I have and can again, while in this unredeemed body, here on earth. that I now see I am dead by God in Son's death for me and all others as well

I agree that repentance is an ongoing daily thing that is part of, what theologians call, Progressive Sanctification. I constantly work on my thought process, attitude to wrongs and put to death daily the sin nature if the flesh. This is BECAUSE I am already saved, a one time decision became an everlasting reality. Nothing can change that destiny in Christ that He did once for all.
Goodness, Sir ... You sure "Opened a can of worms" :) ~~~ By bringing up your "once saved, always saved" doctrine, which is NOT biblical “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” 2 Tim 3:5 ... “Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” 2 Tim 3:7, one of many doctrines of demons that mankind has adopted to attempt to justify themselves to God, to continue being friends with the world and able to hold and cherished their sin, James 4:4 ... yet thinking they will still inherit eternity. Pride & presumption, Sir, are Satan's premiere sin :) ~~~ But that's a whole another can of worms :)

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 ... I believe and follow my Lord and King, Jesus, in ALL that He teaches and commands Matt 28: 19,20

John 15:4-6 (abiding in Christ) and Hebrews 6:4-6, et al, affirm that we CAN fall from Grace & Salvation.
  1. John 15:4-6 "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can you, except you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches: He that stays in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned."
  2. Heb. 6: 4-6 “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.”

The Bible clearly expresses that you have a choice, to accept Christ's redemptive, cleansing Blood from the penalty of sin and then a choice, to believe, follow and keep His (OT, & NT) Covenant ( same covenant of obedience, just different administrations).. God gave Adam and Eve, free will and eternal life, but they chose disobey and to believe Satan rather than God, and lost their freedom and eternal life. God has given us a second chance, by the Blood of His Son, that pays the price required of sin. Mankind, NOW, AGAIN has a CHOICE to OBEY, or NOT, believe God, or believe Satan, follow and believe Jesus, or Satan. John 3:16 “For me and my house, we will serve the Lord” .. unto salvation and eternal life. I want to be FREE of this bondage to sin and LIVE, which is ONLY FOUND IN CHRIST, Jesus ! I pray. AMEN ! John 8:36, 1 Cor. 13:31, Cor. 2:20

Right from the Fall, of Lucifer from heaven and Adam & Eve from Eden, because of their disobedience, and illustrated by the story of Cain and Abel... There are ONLY two spirits in this world, from then till today .. one of obedience and the other of rebellion, one the spirit of Able, the other the spirit of Cain. One leads to being a child of God, being The Church and Salvation, the other to eternal DEAD.

It seems to me, Sir, that you are believing Satan, when he said, "Surely, you won't die" We HAVE TO give up our sinful character, spirit of Cain and be instilled with the Holy Spirit, the righteousness of Christ, if we want to inherit eternity. Mankind has developed a “religion” where they fool themselves, deluding themselves into believing that that God's Law “has been done away with” and that obedience, is “salvation by works” ... a very rich, convoluted religious system, BUT tis doctrines of demons.

tell me, us all here
Have you received Isaiah 6:1-7, and do you do the new by you or by God Father working through you. And are you when you do sin again, any sin that is not unto death (Unbelief) is to me to death for every person that chooses self or others as their leaders
Anyways, hoping the best for you and all. I am not claiming to be perfect, to stand in thanksgiving and praise to God Father in risen Son Who did Psalm 103:12 fro everyone to choose and stand in, and not take it for granted and harm others ever again. Thanks
I am in process to remain hunmble in giving up pride and guilt to have of me. I can't do it as no one else can so I see Romans 8:1-3 and 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, Psalm 100:4
Also I know this part as well Matthew 5:20 thanks love all his the call I see in the same mercy given us all as reconciled 2 Corinthian 5:17-20

Do you believe that those who lead others should learn what the word repentance means before they teach the subject?

I'm not a leader, I'm a follower of Christ. I'm a "teacher" of His Word. We can not teach, what we do not know. His Word, brought me to see my need of a Savior, and Jesus brought me to an understanding of my NEED for repentance, unto Salvation. So ! What your point, sir?

Agree with your post, but would like to tidy up that last statement if I may:

Salvation can be willfully rejected (which is called the sin of apostasy described in Heb. 6:4-6 and logically seems to be equivalent to the unforgivable sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit), but a saved sinner will commit post-repentance sins during the process of sanctification toward moral perfection, which if not confessed immediately results in chain-sinning aka back-sliding.

Do you believe that those who lead others should learn what the word repentance means before they teach the subject?
By your statement above, You are questioning my understanding of the meaning of the term, "repentance".
I get my "understanding of God" by prayer and with the help and inspiration, of the Holy Spirit, through reading God's Word, Jesus.

Let me address the definition of "repentance", specifically. :) ( Note; I use an AI search engine. It's unbiased and quicker than a Strongs or eSword search :)

A. Repentance is sorrow for sin and turning away from it”
  1. 2 Corinthians 7:10 – “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” ~~ This verse explains the sorrow for sin that leads to genuine repentance, distinguishing between godly and worldly sorrow.
  2. Proverbs 28:13 – “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” ~~~ This highlights not only confession but also forsaking sin—turning away from it.
  3. Acts 3:19 – “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out…” ~~~ Repentance is connected to conversion and the removal of sin.
  4. Isaiah 55:7 – “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord...” ~~~A direct call to turn away from sin and return to God.

B. True repentance is a work of divine grace initiated by the Holy Spirit, not merely the product of human effort.
  1. John 16:8 – “And when He [the Holy Spirit] is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.”
    • This shows the Spirit’s role in convicting the heart, a vital step toward repentance.
  2. Acts 5:31 – “Him hath God exalted with His right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.”
    • Repentance is a gift given by Christ through the agency of the Holy Spirit.
  3. Romans 2:4 – “Or despisest thou the riches of His goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?”
  4. 2 Timothy 2:25 – “In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth.”
  5. Ezekiel 36:26-27 – “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you... and cause you to walk in my statutes.”
    • This prophetic promise describes the transformation made possible only by the indwelling Spirit.
In short, both Scripture and the Spirit of Prophecy teach that genuine repentance is initiated by the Holy Spirit working upon the heart. Human cooperation is essential, but we are drawn and enabled by divine power, not our own merit.

C. Repentance It is tied to the law of God.
  1. Galatians 3:24 “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.”
Ellen White confirms this, stating that the moral law reveals sin and causes us to feel our need of Christ, leading us to repentance toward God and faith in Jesus.
  2. Romans 7:7 “I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.”
The law acts as a mirror, showing us our true condition and awakening repentance.
  3. Acts 20:21--“Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”
This verse highlights the dual step in salvation—acknowledging our sin (in light of the law) and turning in faith to Christ. Ellen White echoes this in saying the work of the gospel is to teach repentance toward God because His law has been broken.
  4. 1 John 3:4 “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.”
This is the Bible’s clear definition of sin. Without the law, there would be no understanding of what needs repentance.
  5. Romans 3:20 By the law is the knowledge of sin.”
Again, Ellen White affirms that while the law cannot save, it points us to Christ, who alone can cleanse us. Repentance is essential because we have broken that holy law.
  6. Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.”
Loving God's law brings peace and leads us to harmony with God, which begins with genuine repentance.
  7. John 16:8 “And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.”
The Holy Spirit uses the law to convict us of sin, leading to repentance.
In short, repentance arises from the awareness of having broken God's law, and this recognition leads us to Christ for cleansing, justification, and transformation.

D. Repentance is a condition for receiving forgiveness from God.
  1. Acts 3:19"Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord."
    • This verse directly connects repentance with the blotting out of sins.
  2. Luke 13:3"I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."
    • Jesus emphasizes the necessity of repentance for avoiding destruction, implying the impossibility of forgiveness without it.
  3. 1 John 1:9"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
    • Confession, a form of repentance, precedes forgiveness here.
  4. Proverbs 28:13"He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy."
    • Mercy (a form of forgiveness) is promised only to those who confess and forsake their sins.
  5. Acts 2:38"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins..."
    • Repentance is clearly linked to the remission (forgiveness) of sins.
  6. Ezekiel 18:21-22"But if the wicked will turn from all his sins... all his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him..."
    • God's forgiveness is conditional upon turning (repenting) from sin.
God forgives the penitent, not the presumptuous. “Repentance is as much a gift of God as is forgiveness, and no soul can truly repent without the influence of the Spirit of God” This shows the divine connection between the condition and the gift—it must be accepted through the Spirit, but never separated from forgiveness.

E. True repentance leads to obedience. Repentance is more than sorrow for sin; it results in a changed life that is in harmony with God's law.
  1. Ezekiel 18:30-31
“Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.”
This verse calls for repentance that is demonstrated by turning away from sin, which is disobedience.
  2. Acts 26:20
“...that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.”
Paul clarifies that true repentance leads to actions consistent with a transformed heart—obedience.
  3. Matthew 3:8
“Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance.”
John the Baptist emphasized that genuine repentance must be shown through righteous behavior.
  4. Romans 6:17
“But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.”
Repentance turns hearts from slavery to sin toward heartfelt obedience.
  5. 2 Corinthians 7:10
“For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of...”
Godly sorrow (true repentance) produces a change leading to salvation, which always includes obedience.
  6. John 14:15
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
While not using the word “repentance,” this shows that love—resulting from a changed heart—expresses itself through obedience.
“God must create in man a clean heart before he will walk in His statutes and keep His commandments to do them. A new moral taste has to be created before man will love to obey the law of God”.
“Repentance toward God for the transgression of His law and faith in Jesus Christ the world’s Redeemer, is the only door through which the sinner may enter. Let the mind and heart be imbued with the principles of God’s law. Then they will yield obedience to its sacred claims”.
“When the truth is received into the heart it commences its leavening, transforming process. Sin will appear hateful. That soul will, through faith and willing obedience to God’s commandments, enlist in his behalf a strength more mighty than his own...”.
In summary, repentance is not merely feeling regret—it is the Spirit-led turning of the heart and life that results in obedience to God's holy law.

I would be interested to know your thoughts on this.

There are many gospel tracts that have in their salvation talk..

'Turn from sin' and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

This is what they think 'repent' means.

The thing about this is God Himself repented of what He was going to do in the OT.

It was a 'change of mind, heart'.

I believe repent at salvation means to change your mind, heart about who Jesus is..to believe in Him.

I believe..we can 'turn from sin' as a behaviour of change after conversion. It's not the requirement for salvation.

Knowing you are a sinner, deserving hell, and believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. Believing He is God, that He lived sinless, that He died and rose again. That by believing, you have eternal life.

That's salvation. Not about your behaviour of doing good. That good behaviour of turning from sin..comes because you are saved..in response to salvation.. but it's not the way of salvation.

Repent= change of mind, heart.

Your thoughts?
“I believe repent at salvation means to change your mind, heart about who Jesus is..to believe in Him.”

when we begin to hear the gospel and accept it as truth it changes our mind over to the mknd of Gods children who think like Christ taught us . It’s a process as we hear it conforms us because we do believe him

That word believe is imperative

Do I actually believe this ?

“I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭13:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

if I believe that is true is totally different from saying “ well Jesus said that to Jews it doesn’t apply to me “ that is evidence that we don’t believe him as if he’s not right about what he’s saying and so we need to let what he’s saying be true.

If I don’t believe sin is going to cost me I’m not going to ever bother repenting because I don’t believe it will cost my life . But if I do believe it ehatever is in me is going to fight against that thing wich brings me death

Our belief needs to accept Jesus doctrine and conform to it change our thinking to what he taught us

This kind of thing changes our perceptions and understanding of God

“And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭23:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

….For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

but if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:9, 14-15‬ ‭

sour issue comes when we hear what we don’t already think or want to hear . It’s all true Jesus came to teach mankind about God the Father that’s what changes our minds from sinners who don’t know God to his children who like babes begin to learn and know him personally

The understanding Jesus preached of God is what changes our minds about God and ourselves and the world we live in now and what’s to come after …..believing requires us to hear him

“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

often the idea is not believe in Jesus but I don’t need to hear or believe the things he said about God , salvation , repentance , ourselves the world the enemy ect but we need to hear and believe that will change us it’s what he promised long before that his new doctrine would change the people and fill them with his spirit ,,,,,if they believed him

Our focus of learning should be here

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:31-32‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This is the right doctrine

He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”
‭‭John‬ ‭12:48-50‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”
‭‭John‬ ‭18:37‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The gospel is the power of God to change sinners to the righteous

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:16-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

faith comes from hearing the gospel the word of Christ we walk by faith

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

airs crazy but after all the Bible’s words it comes back to the beginning if any man will listen to and believe what Gods saying they will live and be blessed because they’ll follow thoer belief or lack therof humans all do that it’s our design

Its never changed

“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭4:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Adam and Eve lost thier estate because they didn’t believe and follow Gods word but instead the serpents word it’s still today the same if we listen to Jesus and follow after we’re going to live
