Girls, how much are you worth?

Guys, how much would you pay?

In the Bible the price of a bride was not always money. Othniel conquered a town to pay for his wife. Jacob worked a few years for his wife, and then a few years more after he was tricked. Abraham's servant gave presents to Rebecca's family, definitely not money but compensation in a form. And of course there's the price David paid for Saul's daughter...

So girls, how much would you be worth and in what form - silver shekels, presents, years of labor, foreskins, towns conquered...?

Guys, what form of payment would you be willing to pay, and how much?

I have to give you the Winner's Ribbon emoji for having the guts to write this type of thread! :geek:

But now I'm thinking about how many foreskins a man would pay just to try to get me to leave him alone.

And I don't even want to think about where he would start collecting them from...:LOL::LOL:

Proverbs 31:11-31.
I could not come even close to this answer!

A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.

Well in India i hear that the father gives you an interview.
He asks you who you are, where you come from, you family, your job, how much money you have in the bank etc.
If you satisfy the requirements then you get a bride. :D

And i can also tell you some interesting cultural customs from south of Albania too.

The way you get a bride in south of Albania, is that the father challenges you to steal his daughter while they're sleeping and while he has a shotgun.
If you steal the daughter without the father knowing, then the father deems you worthy and trusts the daughter in your hands.
:D

Kinda makes me happy I only had to ask for his daughters hand!

To me that would be a good sign he should NOT have her...

Yes, well... that's how much she is worth. But how much does she think her family can get? And how much is he willing to pay? Those are very, VERY different concept and estimates.

Yeah, this is why people have strange cultural customs for marriage. Through this, you can get a glimpse on how they interpret scripture too. :)
But this is an old custom anyway which is not practiced anymore and is said as a semi-joke in the tables in the south. Semi-joke because you don't know if someone still does it now. lol
But the interpretation of this cultural custom is this: if you are willing to risk your life for my daughter while evading my defenses i will deem you worthy.

Yeah, I figured. But it was still fun to say that.

@Lynx I think this was a good question to ask.
In some cultures the girl's family pays to the boy to have her. They call it a dowary I think.

So what do you girls think about having to buy you? Or even being purchased? And what do you think about having the need for a dowarY?

My uncle Stanley is a brash, crude, but funny and basically good man. When he married aunt Diane he told Grandma that he would give her two donkeys and a mule for Diane. This painting still hangs in our kitchen.

Where's the mule? Dunno. Maybe in the barn.

I'm pretty sure even if he lowballs you on his first offer, and instead of being grossed out, you respond with something like "Is that all you got?" ;) you're seriously going to freak him out. :D:p:eek:

Although, unless you're saving them up to purchase a groom of your own, I don't know what you're going to use them all for, and would suggest perhaps you consider a different hobby like collecting stamps or baseball cards... :p

The foreskins were proof that this number of enemies had been killed.

I remember a Star Wars game where a corporate exec tasks you with killing X number of Sand People. She requests the gaffi sticks they carry as proof.

"What, you don't want their heads as proof?"

"A bag of heads or a bag of sticks... Which would YOU want dumped out on your office floor? Besides the sticks are unique to each Sand Person. They will do quite well as proof."

The Bible says David delivered the full tale, the complete amount. He delivered proof that he really had killed this number of Saul's enemies.

Oh, that makes more sense than Saul having some sort of weird fetish or dabbling in some alternative fringe currency (Old Testament equivalent of crypto? :p)... I don't know if you've seen the House of David TV series, but the way Saul is portrayed in that, I could see him being overtaken by strange desires from time to time.

This said, taking someone's head is real proof that the someone is dead. I'm not sure its the same deal with gaffi sticks... Perhaps the Sand People were just asleep and the Jedi stole their gaffi sticks?
