i tried to start my diet today, but already i have failed! i eat too much and i hate the empty feeling which comes with the territory of not eating. im trying to lose weight and even bought healthy food. do you guys have any suggestions on how to keep my diet? please?
Small, slow changes.
Instead of overhauling your ENTIRE diet all at once, try starting with one or two small, simple swaps.
For example: If you are a soda drinker and drink 6 cans a day, tell yourself the new limit is 5 cans and stick to that.
Once you have mastered 5 cans/ day, reduce it again.
And while you're reducing it, try slowly replacing it with something new.
Example: I had my 5 cans today, now I'm going to drink this flavored water (we can talk more about some of those later, because just because something is presented as a 'healthy' option doesn't always mean it is the best or most beneficial)
What do you consider to be 'healthy food'?
And just so you know, you certainly are not alone here.
I am going through a lot of food/health changes myself.
For my own health/well being (which has been neglected for way to long and when I haven't been neglecting it, I had been going about it all the wrong the way; the 'all or nothing' approach! So, anything I share is because it is what I have recently been learning and applying myself).
My husband has medical conditions, which are best helped by diet and weight management. I've watched the doctors almost fall over in amazement as we have made slow, steady steps/changes that have brought dramatic results (emphasis on the word
SLOW). After a recent blood work check, his doctor said "Whatever you're doing, keep doing it!"
I have a teenager, who between hormones and medications, combined with their own mental health struggles/challenges, this is a constant daily struggle for the entire household. For them, food is fuel, but also comfort. One unfortunate side effect of medications is how it affects the body in terms of what you eat and how much. When my child started a medication, we were told "it will increase their appetite" ...
The reality is that it didn't increase in terms of "oh you need more food to function" what it actually did was turn OFF signals in the brain that say "FULL" !!! So now we have to put in more/ extra effort with this child to say "You had x amount of a serving. You're body needs at least 20 minutes to fully digest and absorb and let the 'full' hormones reach your brain. " I was so surprised and excited the other day when out of the blue, not long after an on-the-go snack, I heard this child say "You know what? My tummy feels satisfied right now."
And
@777hello77777 give yourself time and grace. Weight and lifestyle changes don't just happen overnight, it takes time. Little by little. Small change on top of small change. If you realized you made a food choice that goes against your goals, don't beat yourself up over it. Acknowledge it as not being good, "That was not the best choice. " and move on.
NO name calling or belittling of yourself!
