Husband and I wanted to go to Scotland but didnt have passports or, yknow, money. Instead we went to an event that was near us called the Highland Games. I got horribly sunburned because I forgot, as a redhead, I need sunscreen. So I looked like a lobster for a few days.

Actually Mr Lobster yum cha is just up the road. Why don't we just go there? Then we can run around the field in Eden Park or watch the rugby/cricket together on TV. Just the two of us. So romantic!!

Weddings are way too expensive. My daughter and son in law borrowed for a fancy wedding and 9 years later, they were still in debt. I know weddings are supposed to be a highlight. However, if that is the best day of your life, everything else is an anticlimax.
The cost of living is absurd. People are putting off having children as a result. Now there are countries like Japan, Korea and China where there are labour shortages that hurt the economy. I'm real glad that I'm not starting out as a young adult.
My advice to young people is to get a trade. It will be a long time before AI and robots can replace a plumber or electrician.
What about trades for the ladies?
Shouldn't both be contributing to the cost of living? Or can you live on one income?
After we married our auto insurance rates decreased. We were told it is because the insurance industry considers us to be adults now.
Late 20's and it's only now that they designated our rates commensurate with being an adult.
Everything is expensive now.
If groceries get any higher I'm going to start considering what pinecones taste like
Weddings don't have to be costly either. The big money some spend for a wedding could be put toward buying a house.
One thing I do suggest for any you f couples getting married.
Gift yourselves! Million dollar life insurance policies. The premium is low the younger you are.
If you have children later,you can take care of your family should one of you pass.

I said people. Last I saw, women are people also. We've had electrical work done recently and it was by a woman. She was just as good as anyone else we've used. I have some idea. My wife's late husband was an Electrical contractor. I worked with him from time to time.
An electrician here should be able to earn enough to support a family. Also, it is normal for self employed to have their spouse as a business partner. Usually, they do the books and answer the phone. That way, they can split the income and so reduce tax.
When I was first married, it was hard. I worked 6 days a week, one day for 12 hours. My then wife did some child care and that helped. Eventually, I was promoted and it got much easier. I suspect that it's even harder now. I'm ex military. I had no debt when I was discharged. Oddly, the military have trouble recruiting. I would have thought it's a decent option when times are difficult.
I had a husband and wife mechanic when I got my car serviced, but the husband died, and I don't think the wife carried on with the business. I am not sure how he died, but he was young and they had school aged children.
In one of my retail jobs my boss owned the bookshop and his partner (not sure if they married) worked with him. He'd met her when he was in management of another retail, so I suppose they joined their assets together and had a 'mom and pop' business, except she was a stepmother because he divorced his first wife.
Apparently he was not rich enough for his first wife.

I don't know any electricians or sparkies as we call them here.
I heard one of my workmates partner was one, but by the time I knew him he was out of work, had lost his driver's licence, (not sure how) and she was working at the library supporting them both until she fell pregnant, so I am not sure what happened after that as she left the library and they moved down the line.
I don't think they could afford to get married.

I don't know any plumbers either. Our household is in general working order.
Any problems with electrics is usually fixed with a look into the fuse box.
We've not had many problems with plumbing either, my uncle usually fixes things for us for free, and he was a baker. We don't flush wet wipes down the toilet, or pour oil or fat down the sink, and compost everything...so...

I worked in trades full time as a gardener...but I don't think I could earn enough to get married. Even though my supervisor kept hinting he wanted to date me...he eventually got with another female workmate, but as far as I know, he didn't marry her, he just slept with her.

My flatmate got married (she had his baby first) but didn't invite me to her wedding, maybe cos they couldn't afford too many guests for a sit-down meal. She sold her house, and they bought another house together, had baby daughter, THEN got married.
She'd already had two children with her first partner but didn't marry him.
She worked as a secretary.
She had to have me as a boarder in her house to afford the bills.
Her now husband is an accountant. He also had a side hustle selling gloves or something. They were both dance teachers as a hobby.

Nobody does books or answers phones anymore. Either it's outsourced to a call centre or chatGPT and the books are done by Xero or a small business that does accounts.
