You are in a workplace, where your boss isn't a Christian and it seems most of your workmates are not. Many of them like to hang out at bars or pubs and drink, and they like having parties with booze --cocktails, wine, beers...anything alcoholic. Or they partake in recreational drugs, like vaping, marijuana, or cocaine, party drugs. The workplace social events are so you can 'network'.
Do you go along with them to social events at work or outside of work? Would you disclose you are a Christian or keep that to yourself? If you disclose, would you offer to be the 'sober driver' to the work parties?

What would you do?
 
I've only had one job where management asked for employee feedback.
It was mandatory we answer.

Honesty was the best policy. If you wanted to be targeted for reprisals had you complained about management.
Or,any managers pet , favorite, employee.

Knowing they participate in such behaviors outside of work,no,I wouldn't hang out with them.

Drunk people can be embarrassing.

Not sure what to do with mandated work events though, like office Christmas parties. Maybe just feign sickness. I can't come I'm sick (cough cough)

I wouldn't lie.
It's odd a company mandates party attendance.
If you don't go,do they fire you?

I'd attend if my job security depended on it.
You can attend a party and avoid drunk silly people.

Do you have to stay for the whole party,start to finish?

If not,dho up,meeting the mandatory attendance policy,stay an hour or so and then take your leave.

What if it's on a boat/yacht?

I think if you don't go, they won't fire you but you'd def miss out on being part of the inner circle of staff. Also you do need to go if you'd bought tickets to cover the cost of it (This is what working in Public Service/ as a public servant is like)

You would have to stay the whole time if you are the sober driver.
 
I guess a lot of people don't actually know what it's like to be a Public Servant, if they've never been one. There's a lot you can't do or say or you'll risk losing your job.

Depends on if I'm still fighting addiction to any of the items listed will be on hand/in use at the party. Hopefully I will have put into use some N/A steps.
Get rid of the 'toys' needed to use your own poison - needles, razor blades, little brown bottles etc
Cut ties with people that still use. They are not friends.
Don't go to places where such item are likely to be available.
This is your part - trust GOD to deliver you from the desire. You will know when that happens.

I was almost physically addicted to coke a lot of years ago, Was impressed by the Lord that the next line i used would put me over the edge into full addiction. I used the N/A suggestions and lived in a sort of fear of running into a supply for about 5 years. Then it really happened. At a local store a pusher offered some coke. From deep in my belly came a firm, resounding 'NNNOOOO!!!" afterwards I took a very deep breath. The fear of falling back to coke is gone. Every time i share this story or even think deeply about coke (which is rare) I still take another deep breath
i really didn't intend to go into such detail - maybe it'll help someone

I live in an area that is said to be rampant with addiction, particularly fentanyl.

It is extremely encouraging to hear about a personal testimony of God actively fighting such dark principalities at work. 🙏🏼

I haven't noticed any fentanyl addiction where I live, but I do live in a 'dry' area meaning alcohol isn't readily available and any liquor store or bar/pub premises are operated by a trust that gives profits back to the area. The supermarkets cannot sell beer or wine in my area.

Also there are alcohol bans in public areas.

It's interesting that different places have different addiction problems, and where they might get things from, I suppose dealers live in certain areas too.

It is not so bad where I live. Though, if you wanted to, you could buy alcohol, beer, whisky, brandy, etc. Cigarettes. Even weed. There are dealers (not legal though).

There is always something everyone is addicted to these days. As long as it's not hard drugs or habits that destroy your body as much, we've much to be grateful for.

For being someone who believes in God, my faith in Jesus keeps me safe. Looking to God for help in such circumstances and tempting times is the right thing to do. Jesus alone can save a soul no human being can. Especially in cases of addiction.

Stay blessed my friends.

Oh that's me. The question was for someone else other than me. Ok new question. What would you do when an old school mate calls you out of the blue for a favour? Asks to meet you in person? And you don't know what's on the mind of that person.

huh, I think I would be a little suspicious. Depends on what the favour is. Probably I would say no. Because I've had that experience when I was quite happy that an old school mate contacted me and thought we were going to do a fun catch-up (as had some of my other old school mates and reminisce about our school days) but really she was only hoping I'd buy tupperware and host a party for her.

If that happened to me now and it bothered me, I'd pray and ask God what the wise thing to do is. I've learned its ok to say no. They will just ask someone else. It's better to say 'no' in the beginning even if a bit unsure rather than go 'maybe' or 'perhaps' because then they assume you will help them and push you into it even if you having second thoughts. Then you start stressing about it and we DO NOT NEED MORE STRESS in our lives!
