John 1: 12. but as many as have received him, to them he gave the right to become children, even to them who believe

believing did not make them children of God but gave them the power to become children of God in baptism!

thks
Believers should be baptised, but they do not become believers because they are baptised. By the way, the Holy Spirit does not baptise unbelievers.

Acts 10:44-48

"While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard his message. All the circumcised believers who had accompanied Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and exalting God."

"Then Peter said, “Can anyone withhold the water to baptize these people? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have!” So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay for a few days."

I try to live as righteous a life as possible since being baptised and try to live a sinless life. But I still have problems with things like swearing and smoking mainly. I wish God would speak to me directly so I know where I'm at spiritually because if theres no hope in making it to heaven then I may as well just live recklessly right?
God does speak to us directly through His word, through our church family, and in that quiet voice inside. And the only way to know that voice is through spending time with Him. And forget "trying" to live a righteous life because we can't. That is why we have a Savior. He wants the type of relationship with that allows Him to name your goldfish and some of your snails, because I would Never have picked the name Todd for one of my snails or Wallace for that matter lol , but those are the names Jesus picked and I find that pretty cool
I believe in God whole heartedly and know for a fact that He sent his Son to die for our sins and then rose again 3 days later, and I read bits of the Bible every single day. But aside from the sins that I struggle with over coming there's other ways in which I feel that I'm letting God down as well, like forgetting to pray some days, and not having the motivation to go to church, and not actively spreading the good news like how alot of street preachers do.

It's verses like 2Timothy 2:19 which states that: "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness" that I feel convicted by.
Because if I can't give up basic sins like swearing (only because its become a natural part of my vocabulary now that I'm 40 something) then surely God will turn me away at the gates of heaven regardless of my belief in Jesus won't he? Especially if my last words are "s*** I'm dieing" for instance.

The other thing that I feel convicted by is that jesus explicitly commanded us (his followers) in Mark 16:15, Matthew 28:19 & Luke 24:47 to "go into the whole world and preach the the gospel & repentance for the forgiveness of sins to all creation, and to make disciples of all nations." This final directive is known as The Great Commission apparently.

So I always wonder whether God will condemn us to hell for things like forgetting to pray some times (especially giving thanks before meals) or not actively spreading the good news as he has told us to.
Jesus died once and for all, and all sin-past,present,future-was put under the blood. Even when we sin our standing does not change. In natural terms, you can kick a kid out of your house, but they are still a member of the family. It has never been about what we do aside from accepting what Jesus did.

Because a person needs assurances doesn't necessarily mean that they're self centered or loveless.
For example: When two people take their wedding vows and promise to be together through sickness and health and be faithful and love one another forever. Are those assurances self centered or loveless? Not at all.
In the same way I've given assurance of my allegiance to Jesus and declared my love for him while promising to have faith in him for all eternity. So I would just like His assurance that I am a true child of God. I know He doesn't owe me that because He gave me life and died for my sins but I just really want him to send the Holy Spirit to live inside me so I can feel His presence in my life all the time.
You are sealed with Holy Spirit when you accept Jesus as your Savior, and forget about feelings. They lie. Tie to what you know. Jesus died for you, and He loves you as you are, and by getting to know Him better you will see a change in yourself. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen. Get to know Him better by reading the Word, share testimonies with other believers, listen to some good music. But do seek the baptism of Holy Spirit which is a separate work, but mostly trust, stand in faith and obey. Be who You are in Christ, not what you think you should be.

The reason I need to feel something is because i was forced to leave my old life with God's help, and during the process I lost my earthly elderly father who sadly passed away because I wasn't able to be there to look after him. So I suppose what I want partially is for God to fill that void because He's a personal God so I want to have a personal relationship with Him rather than just being sent letters and messages through His writings.

Many adopted children want to meet their parents so it's no difference me wanting to meet my heavenly Father or any of His Triune characters. I don't think that's to much to ask for really considering I haven't ever had an actual spiritual experience with Him at all before or after being baptised and yet I still believe in him 100%.

Also, I was attacked by demons a few years ago and was put in hospital as a result. Obviously that was different but even then I went to a church a week later for relief because the constant attacks, hallucinations and demonic activity nearly drove me insane, but Id previously studied demonology so I recognised what was actually happening rather than assuming it was late stage schizophrenia (because i was around 43 then).

My point is, demons manifested themselves to me visually, and spoke to me and even physically attacked me so I know that God can appear to me if He wants to like He did for Paul on the road to Damascus, or even to people who have had NDE's (near death experiences). And Im not even saying that I expect him to necessarily appear to me. I just want to have a spiritual experience that I know is from Him.

He already convinced me to turn my life around and follow him so I just want him to interact with me so I don't feel like I'm dealing with this on my own, because once you know He's real and want to live according to His teachings it's hard to communicate with most worldly people that don't know the truth about our reality so life can become a very lonely place, because most people think your nuts if you believe in God let alone Christ.

I wouldn't expect God to appear to me over and over, again, it's not like that. Just one true encounter with Him would be satisfy my craving. But even if He doesn't I will still believe in Him and have faith, because of the evidence of His life and what He has done in mine also. Do you honestly think that this is too much to ask for?
Ok I have a simple question. Do you know Jesus? It may seem like a dumb question, but it's the starting point for a relationship with God the Father. Knowing about and knowing are 2 different things. Are you part of a church body? Discipleship is essential for spiritual growth. He delights in having intimacy with His kids. I mean after all He named my new fantail goldfish Ben and Jerry, and some of my snails. I would NEVER have picked the name Todd or Wallace, but Jesus did.🙂 He wants to be that intimate, but NEVER forget that God is sovereign. He does not dance to our tune. He loves who you are where you are, but He is still King.

I agree completely. In order to make their marriage work they need to spend time with eachother to know eachother, because the Christian life is about having an actual relationship and not just about the husband permanently working away while leaving post it notes all over the fridge or text messages on her phone to communicate with her, when instead he could just call her or come home instead to spend quality time with her at least once in a while.

I feel that I'm in fellowship with God every day with every spare minute that I get, because when I say I read bits of the Bible everyday that's a bit of an understatement, because right now I've got 7 versions of the Bible spread out on my table and they're all permanently open all the time because I'm constantly scanning, comparing, absorbing and studying His words daily like the Berean Jews of Paul's time, always trying to understand Him better while strengthening my relationship with Him as He teaches me various subjects and different life lessons through the scriptures.

God knows my heart and knows the love I have for Him and for others and how much faith I have in Him. So He knows I don't need a miracle to believe in Him, because the Bibles prophecies and The Dead Sea Scrolls should be proof enough of His existence for any rational thinking person. All I would like from Him is His seal of approval or disapproval of the way that I'm living my life right now and whether it will lead me to heaven or not.

As you probably know, most if not all of God's messenger's and prophets of old had the assurance of heaven like Adam, Enoch, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, David, Solomon, Elijah, the 12 Disciples, Paul etc. So why is it wrong for me to want the answer to such an obvious question? And why do some people think its almost blasphemous to ask that question when its like the elephant in the room to me and a question that I think each of us should seriously question.
God is not a man that he should lie, nor a son of man that He should change His mind. Does He speak and not act? Does He promise and not fulfill? Num 23:19 This was my mom's favorite verse. She passed away last month from leukemia. When we saw the oncologist he wanted to start her on chemo right away, but she said, "No you won't. Look I'm 86 years old. I've had good life. Why would I have a few more years of chemical misery when I can go home". And 2 1/2 weeks later she And did. I know where she is, and I know I will see her again.
Move past the head knowledge to heart knowledge. You Can feel His presence, and sometimes it will knock you off your feet.

Water baptism is an outward sign, of inward grace, yet you try to turn a sign into a savior.
Water baptism for the remission of sins is a commanded physical action.

Acts 2:38

Peter answered them, "All of you must turn to God and change the way you think and act, and each of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins will be forgiven. Then you will receive the Holy Spirit as a gift.

It is not a sign or evidence of an acquired grace. Claiming to be baptized or even claiming to believe in faith alone regeneration theology is not a sign or proof of grace. There are no physical "signs" of grace, just promises of grace.

You either submit to it or not.

Being dunked in water after proclaiming you have the remission of sins is not obeying the command to be baptized for the remission of sins.

Yet you try to turn the moment of the remission of sins into a meaningless ritual.

Still banging the dead religious drum. You will be in for quite a surprise when you meet Jesus when this life is over.

You do not get to know someone by following a set of rules. I was in the military and the Captain handed down orders regularly. I had nothing to to do with the Captain on a personal level. I just did what I was told. He only knew my name because I had name tag. I spoke to him a few times in 8-1/2 year in the Navy. And it was not the same person over that time.
You've still got bluster. So the what the Bible says about how to know God is wrong because of your experience with the Captain?

Matthew11-27.png

All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. Matthew 11 v 27

Water baptism for the remission of sins is a commanded physical action.
Repentance is unto the remission of sins. Baptism is done on the basis of the remission of sins that received upon repentance (with faith implied or assumed. (Acts 11:17,18; 20:21) Two sides to the same coin.

Luke 24:47 - and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. *What happened to baptism?

Acts 3:19 - Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord. *What happened to baptism?

Acts 5:31 - Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. *What happened to baptism? *Hermeneutics.
Acts 2:38

Peter answered them, "All of you must turn to God and change the way you think and act, and each of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins will be forgiven. Then you will receive the Holy Spirit as a gift.
The only logical and Biblical conclusion when properly harmonizing scripture with scripture is that faith in Jesus Christ "implied in repentance" (rather than water baptism) brings the remission of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Luke 24:47; Acts 2:38; 3:19; 5:31; 10:43-47; 11:17,18; 13:38-39; 15:7-9; 16:31; 26:18) *Perfect Harmony*
It is not a sign or evidence of an acquired grace.
It most certainly is. False religion turns signs and symbols of salvation into the substance and the source.
Claiming to be baptized or even claiming to believe in faith alone regeneration theology is not a sign or proof of grace. There are no physical "signs" of grace, just promises of grace.
Receiving the remission of sins is signified, but not procured in the waters of baptism. Outward symbol of an inward reality.
You either submit to it or not.
Sadly, there have been many people who have submitted to water baptism for the wrong purpose, apart from saving faith in Christ.
Being dunked in water after proclaiming you have the remission of sins is not obeying the command to be baptized for the remission of sins.
Again, repentance is unto the remission of sins. (Luke 24:47; Acts 3:19; 5:31) Water baptism "follows" repentance/faith/receiving remission of sins. (Acts 10:43-47; 11:17,18)
Yet you try to turn the moment of the remission of sins into a meaningless ritual.
The moment of the remission of sins when one repents and believes the gospel/places faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation "precedes" the ritual of baptism. Just because baptism is not the cause of salvation doesn't mean it's meaningless. The same goes for circumcision with the Israelites.

You've still got bluster. So the what the Bible says about how to know God is wrong because of your experience with the Captain?
You do not know God. That's your problem. You do not know His ways. God's way is Jesus, but you prefer to live under the law that you can't keep. Good luck on Judgement Day. You will be judged by the Law, and that will be no fun at all.

In Exodus 33:13, Moses wanted God to be gracious to him by teaching him to walk in His way that he and Israel might know Him, and in 1 Kings 2:1-3, God taught how to walk in His way. through the Torah. Jesus is also God's way because he embodied the Torah by setting a sinless example for us to follow of how to walk in obedience to it (John 14:6-11). In Roman 10:5-8, Paul referred to Deuteronomy 30 as the word of faith that we proclaim in regard to the righteousness that is by faith proclaim that the Torah is not too difficult for us to obey and that obedience to it brings life and a blessing while disobedience brings death and a curse, so choose life! It is far better to be judged by the Torah than to perish because only the doers of the Torah will be declared righteous (Romans 2:12-13). You can make claims, but your claims are not in accordance with Scripture.

"You pore over the Scriptures because you presume that by them you possess eternal life. These are the very words that testify about Me, yet you refuse to come to Me to have life.…" John 5:39 & 40

I know the scriptures and I know Jesus. You know the scriptures that suit you and you reject whatever contradicts your religiosity. You know about Jesus but you do not know Him. If you did, you would be able to comprehend the truth. Spiritual things can only be understood spiritually. (1 Corinthians 2:14)

Jesus affirmed in Luke 10:25-28 that the way to inherit eternal life can be found in Scriptures, so eternal life can certainly be found in Scriptures (Exodus 33:13, Matthew 7:23, John 17:3) and the Pharisees were correct to search for it there, but they needed to recognize that the goal of everything in Scripture is to testify about how to know Christ and enter into a relationship with him for eternal life. In 1 John 2:4, those who say that they know Jesus but don't obey his commandments are lairs. I do reject whatever conducts my religiosity, but I do reject interpreting God's Word in a way that turns it against obeying God's Word. The Spirit has the role of leading us to obey the Torah (Ezekiel 36:26-27), so I do understand spiritual things. You just have a couple verses that have you blatantly ripped out of content in order to try to apply them to me.

Your argument is not with me. Your argument is with God. You accuse me of verses out of context? You deny the whole of the New Testament! Note: the New Testament began on the day of Pentecost.

So what is your response to God's word regarding the believer and the law? Even the other legalists don't go as far down the rabbit hole as you do. And you ignore completely that the law was given to Israel, not to the gentiles. I don't know about you, but I did not become a Jew when I got born again. Obviously you reject what Peter said to the elders in Jerusalem in Acts 15. Did you tear that page out of your Bible? It sure is in mine.

"For through the law I died to the law so that I might live to God." Galatians 2:19. What laws apply to dead people?

But now, having died to what bound us, we have been released from the law, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code." Romans 7:6.

"All who rely on works of the law are under a curse. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” Now it is clear that no one is justified before God by the law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.” The law, however, is not based on faith; on the contrary, “The man who does these things will live by them.” Galatians 3: 1-12

When you follow the law, you are not living by faith. That means that you are not pleasing God.

"Before this faith came, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law became our guardian to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian." Galatians 3:23-25

The law does not save us and neither does it make us righteous. "Whoever keeps the whole law, but stumbles at just one point, is guilty of breaking all of it." James 2:10

"But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law." Galatians 5:18

"For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God." Romans 8:14

The Law of Chest, the Law of the Spirt, and the Law of the Father, which was given to Moses, are all the Law of God. In Romans 8:4-7, Paul contrasted those who walk in the Spirit with those who have minds set on the flesh who are enemies of God. God has not commanded anything that is not in accordance with walking in the Spirit, but rather God's character traits are the fruits of the Spirit and the Law of God is His instructions for how to embody His character traits, which is why the Spirit has the role of leading us to obey it (Ezekiel 36:26-27).
