Tell everyone a mistake, even a big mistake you made when you became a born again Christian that you didn't realize til years later but then corrected it. I will start it off: I became a born gain Christian in May or June of 1993. My girlfriend at the time who was Christian, in 1996, suggested I listen to Christian music. So I listened for about a couple of weeks & stopped. I stopped because there wasn't any challenge in the music itself. You may know by now, I gravitate towards music that is difficult to play, like Jazz, progressives rock, etc, ( I am a drummer ). Well, it was 17 & a 1-2 years later in December of 2013 that I realized I was using the wrong reason not to listen to Christian music. In Chrisitan music, the music is always secondary & the message is always primary.

Hi Karlon!

Just wanted to stop in to support your great thread! :) I've always been part of the church, but even as a Christian, I've done plenty of things that were terribly wrong.

Several years ago, I dated a guy who had a severe problem with alcoholism, and it was getting to a point where he couldn't look after his kids (their mom had passed away.)

I was looking after the kids more and more, as well as having to check up on him (as in, they would run to me as soon as I walked through the door because he had passed out without feeding them, etc.) They were all living with his mom so the kids still had someone to look after them, but I was trying to fill in the ever-widening gaps, and feeling like I was a single parent/caretaker.

I had never been in such a situation before, and I know I lost my temper with the kids many more times than I should have. I would break down crying and beg the kids to forgive me, though they were too young to really understand. One just put his little arms around me and hugged me and that had me bawling even harder over my failure.

I would ask the single moms I worked with for advice, with some saying they apologize to their kids, too, while another said she never apologized to her kids because it showed weakness.

The kids eventually went to other family members who took them in, but even 20+ years later, it's still a huge thorn in my soul.

I was having problems removing myself from the situation. Although I had tried to break off the relationship, their father would call me constantly (back in the days of phones that attached to the wall.) After work, I'd have unplug all the phones in the house or they'd be ringing off the hook. He would show up where I worked and try to ask me to go with him to various places. I was half a step away from looking into legal action, but finally, he stopped.

I would have liked to have stayed in touch with the kids and helped them when I could, but because of their father's erratic behavior and continual drinking, cutting all ties seemed to be the only answer.

Even though I know I'm forgiven, I still beg God regularly for forgiveness.

I hope that the kids have forgotten me (which is very possible because they were so small,) but if they do remember, I always pray that they might someday forgive me, too.

well, maybe in your loving Christian heart, you wanted to try to assist him thru a relationship. 7b if you never had kids, it could be that you were trying to be a mother to the kids, acting the Christian life. many relationships have been hurt tremendously with the old european "tough parent" attitude of not apologizing. along with that, parents were taught not to say: "i'm sorry", "thank you", "i was wrong" & so on. Jesus forgives so you can obviate from the guilt. thank the Lord he stopped. it sounds like the father was sorry he had kids cuz he feels his life has been taken away by caring for the kids. you don't have to keep asking God for forgiveness. you only have to ask once. & if you didn't do anything wrong in that relationship, then there's no action which leads to guilt. example: my youngest brother hung himself in august of 24'. i had no guilt whatsoever that i should have done this & that more. i witnessed to him for 41 years but he remained an atheist. i pried for him so much you can't count it. thanks for sharing that. you give lot's of life to CC.

Thank you so much for the kind words!

It's the same for you. CC wouldn't be quite the same without your input. 🙂

I guess one of the reasons I keep asking for forgiveness is to remind myself of how far I can fall and hopefully never go down that path again.

I am so very sorry about your brother.

Even though it was his choice to reject your witness, I know that God will honor your faithfulness in the end. 🙏🏼

"Regrets, I've had a few
But then again
Too few to mention"

I try to not dwell on them. There's not a doggone thing I can do about them now. All I can do is learn my lesson and not do that again.

There are some challenging parts in certain Christian songs though...

i can't receive the tune you sent, something wrong.
Hmph. Youtube is a schizo.

Go to youtube and look up "Adrian Snell: Bathed in neon" and go to the guitar solo after the bridge. 2:15 or so.

The biggest mistake that made after accepting Christ was to be a lukewarm Christian. I spent the next twenty years turning to Christ for help only after I had reached the end of my rope. I had one toe in Christ's work and my feet in the work of the flesh. I was in my early forties when I felt the whole world crashing in around me. I finally realized that I needed to take my actions to Christ before they become problems.

Today my health is terrible, but my life is wonderful. On my way home from church last Sunday, my check engine idiot light came on. I scheduled a repair consultation for tomorrow, then left the problem in God's hand. When in the car after lunch today, no more check engine light.

Christian music is usually sung, doesn't really need accompanient usually. Or a whole orchestra. But it's nice to have. I can't deal with organ music myself, I prefer harps and the piano, but really its the melody thats important, not the beat or guitar solo or whatever.

Sorry I don't have many mistakes I dare to admit that haven't been forgiven and forgotten, love keeps no record of wrongs, so I shouldn't either.
