my parents say sometimes harsh punishment is needed so we learn a important lesson and become a better person , do you agree ?

Harsh punishment? Not even close. You should be arrested and tried for false imprisonment. If your parents aren't willing to call the police, you should be spending a lot more time in your room and should be grounded for a very long time.

Temporarily confining a child or teen to their room does not constitute "false imprisonment" nor should such a measure necessarily be a matter for the police. Your ideas suggest that you have little understanding of the parental rights and responsibilities versus outright abuse. Such an attitude relegates the raising of children to the State, a responsibility they are not in any position to bear.

we live in an old victrian house in england all the doors have lockes on them that can be locked or unlocked with a key
Having locks on every door is not desirable. For one, keeping them in their rooms by force, does nothing to teach children internal control nor is fear likely to motivate them to understand right and wrong. To be effective, any consequence must seem to be just and it must reflect a caregiver's desire for the ultimate good of the child.

Don't you know when you're being taken for a ride??

I really hated being punished, my parents made it as tough as possible, i was locked in my room from friday evening when i returned home from school, i lost my tv, phone etc, i was woken up at 7am , after a shower and breakfast i was locked back in my room for the day, i was told to sit at my desk and do the school work that my parents had set, later on i had to listen to my sisters trying to decide where to go, i could go no where as i was shut in all weekend lights out and bed 9pm why no sympathy ?

If a parent's discipline is draconian it will not be perceived as an expression of love and will not ultimately change his/her conscience.
When this is the case, disciplinary measures will be seen simply as a matter of "might makes right" the imposition of SUFFERING in and of itself does not yield the "peaceful fruit of righteousness" primarily because punishment is aimed at eliminating a behavior not building one. For instance, if a child is angry that his will is thwarted, punishment might DECREASING (or suppressing) his reactions but it by no means shows him how to self-regulate by managing his own emotions.

Sometimes when there's an 87% chance fake, we play along anyway for the 13% chance. Just in case.

But yeah, the longer this thread goes the lower the chance keeps dropping.

Last thursday i had a row with my sister who is 18, because my sister is clastrophobic and hates confined spaces i locked her in her room, i enjoyed her kicking and screaming to be let out, then my friend rang me, i got distracted, forgot about my sister and went out, 6 hours later my mum came home and found my sister locked up, she was crying, she had 2 or 3 panic attacks, missed her driving lesson and a date with her boyfriend, she even had to go to the toilet in a flower pot, my parents went mad and said the punishment must fit the crime, they said i would be spending a whole weekend locked in my room ( last weekend ) when i returned from school friday evening i was escorted to my room, i lost my tv, phone pc etc, after dinner i was locked in for the night, the next morning i was woken at 7am ( part of my punishment ) after a shower and breakfast i was locked in for the rest of the day, as i have exams this year i was set tons of schoolwork to do including, maths, english , french , georgraphy, biology , and science, i was also set three 4 page punishment essays to write one on UNACEPTABLE BEHAVOUR AND PUNISHMENTS, another on THE PURPOSE OF HARSH PUNISHMENT and another on WHY ITS IMPORTANT TO SHOW RESPECT TO OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS , i had to eat in my room and was only allowed out to use the bathroom, my parents said what i done to my sister was TOTALLY unacceptable that why a harsh punishment was required, what do you think ? did i deserve to be punished ADVICE PLEASE ? and please be honest ?

@imogen1234,

I'm truly sorry if this is all a true story, if you are who you say you are, if this is your situation, and if I'm getting this all wrong.

But if I may be honest, I've been on this site for a long time and have seen a few things.

Your whole approach -- going into details about you how feel about punishing someone else and enjoying it, then how you feel about being punished yourself, and including an avatar of a young girl in a school girl uniform -- sounds like someone who is trying to lure in people, especially older men, who have unnatural attractions to punishment, whether giving or receiving.

I say this not in judgment, but because I have heard stories over the years of people being baited into such things on this site.

People think they're talking to a young girl and that they might even be trying to help her and turn her to the Lord (which may be true in some cases,) but what usually happens is that they get lured into private messaging (on or off the site,) baited into inappropriate conversations, and then blackmailed in some way because the "girl" will then "reveal" that she is "underage", and that she will report these conversations to authorities or the person's friends, family, pastor, etc. if they don't somehow pay up.

If you really are the person in your avatar and all of this really is the issue for you, know that this site is made up of a mostly older audience, many with grown children and grandchildren, who will be obviously promote the constructive side of punishment. But if my suspicions are on track, you came here knowing it was mostly older people, because that's exactly who you wanted to draw in.

If you're truly seeking sympathy and justification for acting out and suffering consequences for it, you won't find it here.

Whoever you are, I truly wish you the best, and that you will find God's wisdom and blessings in your life.

I agree, though I wouldn’t have shown so much grace as you do. You’re a good person, and I’m not, so I’m just declaring this thread as a troll thread.😎

I appreciate the kind word, @Texasgal. And you are a better person than you give yourself credit for.

I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt, as I know some people have been through a lot of terrible things in life. But I also know that sometimes, often due to abuse or through exposure to materials depicting abuse, have become attracted to it -- and/or the attention it gets. And sometimes, other people are trying to exploit those attractions.

If I'm wrong, I am 100% hoping this person will set me straight and I have no problems apologizing. I actually hope to be wrong in cases like this.

But seeing as this person, right off the bat, joined the site and immediately started two threads about punishment...

Between the posts and the avatar, it just seems to scream, "Look t me if you're into naughty school girls who like punishing others but hates getting punished herself (or at least hates to.)" It's calling out to a very specific segment of people.

Maybe I'm just old, or jaded, or paranoid, but...

When you've seen the pattern of 1, 2, 3 several times... and someone else shows up with a very profound 1 and 2 -- it's really hard to keep from guessing that the 3 is going to drop any minute now.

I'm sorry for the typos in this paragraph from my earlier post.

What I'm trying to say is that these threads, posts, and avatar seem to be purposely designed to appeal to those are interested in "naughty" school girls (complete with uniform, as shown in the picture,) and those who are into gratification through the various aspects of punishment, as this is a very common theme in the adult entertainment world.

Now I'm certainly not any kind of expert, nor am I into any such things.

I've just talked to a lot of people who were abused, often in childhood, sometimes in marriages, by someone who was into those particular themes -- which was almost always gleaned from pornographic materials.

Shhhhh...

If it is trolling, we don't want to give the fisherman a lesson in how to make his bait better.

But yeah, those were the glaring flaws I saw too. He's trolling with Walmart bait.

This is a 13 minute message to a school.<

It will answer your question and provide a blessing that all of us need. Once you make the decision at the end of it, you and your family will benefit. God's desire is to accept you as His daughter.

While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us

I second this. As someone with major anxiety and who spent years locked in a basement infested with centipedes you are cruel. You knew your sister had anxiety and you enjoyed her suffering. That is disgusting. Im praying for you.

I am not a believer in writing essays as a punishment. That sort of thing encourages the person doing the writing to be deceptive rather than to engage in an honest dialogue. The fact that you ENJOYED her panic reveals that something is deeply wrong in you. You, along with other members of your family, must be harboring a lot of hostility. I will add that you are not the only one who needs help. For whatever reason your whole family seems to be affected by whatever events preceded this incident. You all would be helped by cojoint Family Therapy. All that being said, I must admit to having considerable doubt as to the veracity of this post.

Be honest?
OK .
Were you my daughter, I would have had you arrested for false imprisonment and any other offense that would apply.

I'd then ask the judge to have you undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Because that you derived pleasure from your claustrophobic sisters screams means something in the compassion range of your mind is blocked.

You didn't forget about your sister when you left. You're not being honest.

I'd also get a restraining order so that you could not return to the home.

Your adult sister had no way out. Not even a window she could break and scream for help?
You're dangerous. And if you're a minor, that's concerning that you're this wicked at a young age.

What you did to your sister was serious. Locking someone in a room — especially someone with claustrophobia — isn’t a prank.
It caused her panic attacks, humiliation, and real distress.
Even if you didn’t mean for it to go that far, the impact was severe.

Your parents’ response wasn’t abusive.
It was a firm, corrective consequence meant to show you how frightening confinement can be and to make you reflect on empathy, responsibility, and respect.
Given what happened, a consequence was appropriate.

You’re not a bad person — but this is something you need to learn from.
The important part now is repairing trust and understanding why you reacted the way you did so it never happens again

That is not how you treat a sister.

I don't know what the row was about but just seems like you couldn't sort it out with your sister and forgive her for whatever it was. When we have different points of view we just agree to disagree, if we unable to reconcile.

We don't punish each other or take pleasure in it. Your parents probably took this route to show you what it was like for your sister, missing out on life as she was confined to her room. It was a mean thing to do.

But you ought to sort things out with your sister and forgive each other. You both live in the same house, so you need to learn to get along.

I also think it's strange that a house has locks on ALL the doors (Victorian houses are not like this, unless it was a former brothel or boarding school something) or windows you can't open/climb out of.
And then you can now access internet somehow without your phone or PC without ever having learned anything, I mean where is this essay?

Sorry, no sympathy from me, and OP may not even have returned to check this thread.

I would wonder if the story was even true. Or,if it was a Troll stopping in to throw some narrative of evil into a forum in a Christian community just to see the reaction.

That behavior in the OP isn't normal. Especially when it is a younger sibling victimizing an adult sibling.

Serial killers start out with that level of depravity. Harming weaker siblings, pets, neighborhood animals, kids.

Years ago a study was done with the consent of the various state bureau of prisons and death row inmates.
PET scans, etc... were done.

Turned out the one thing in common was the frontal lobe of their brains, the conscience center, was atrophied, shrunken,or not active at all.

I hope the OP doesn't return. Why would you come to a forum and ask strangers opinion about having committed an alleged crime and tort against your own sister?
