Just finished building a linux rig for Steam. Open world RPGs like The Witcher or KOTOR are pretty appealing. A game with no story is akin to terrible tasting gum.

I'm not so sure about that, besides, what would be the definition of "no story"?
Even the original Super Mario Bro's has some kind of background lore.
I should've been clearer. Games with a dead/repetitive environs i.e. Halo infinite or the first time No man's sky came out. They have lore yes but it wasn't well executed. Nintendo (usually) has a strategy at least.
Hello Kitty has plenty of lore
In the island adventure Hello Kitty and her friends fly to a newly opened island amusement park/resort but find it mysteriously half empty and abandoned, so she needs help setting it up. There is a map to help navigate your way round the island and various quests you can go on. My current quest is to give welcoming gifts to Hello Kitty's friends.
I picked going to the island was so I could make new friends. So far I am quite impressed with the game and the different options you can choose eg what your avatar looks like, what you can wear, what gifts you choose, friends you can chat to, and they all have different personalities. Its super cute and funny.

First, howdy and welcome to the forum.
Second, I also play games for the story. KOTOR was pretty good, well placed plot twist and all.
Because of that I got KOTOR 2 and was terribly disappointed that it went all nihilistic. Kreia was depressing. I categorically refused to try to bank any approval with her.
Third, about games with no story... Eh, it depends why you're chewing gum. Some chew it for the flavor but others chew as a nervous tic, just something to keep their mouths busy. Others chew because they are trying to kick a tobacco habit.
There are just so very many people who make mastering a video game into a point of pride. For them souls-like games are actually fun. There are some who collect everything in a collectathon game because it satisfies the magpie urge to establish order and feel like they have accomplished something. To each his own.
About Steam on Linux: I tried installing Linux Mint to an external hard drive, then installing Steam on that. And it worked! Then I booted the drive on another computer... and it worked!
You can now find a fast SSD-on-a-stick (they make those) and carry your whole game library in your pocket if you want, and boot it on any computer that has the hardware to run your games.
In tangentially related news: What is the last game you played that had a really good story? Just curious.
My favorite game is Far Cry 5. There you are fighting against and evil (even biblical) cult. And the graphics are probably the best in gaming. But in the game you will do a lot of hunting for money to buy and upgrade weapons.
As far as the game being violent, it does not bother me spiritually.

But I don't know what's behind that locked gate....
The most violent thing that happened so far was when the airplane started malfunctioning when Hello Kitty went to bake some cakes onboard and the plane started spitting out cakes on to the passengers. Then we had to evacuate. I don't even know what happened to the plane after that whether it kept flying or crashed into the ocean with all the cakes.
Also half manifest on board are missing on the island...

I mean there was a Darth Nihilis so yeah the mood was interwoven with the plot. Kreia is iconoclastic and that's totally understandable but I thought both the character & execution were flawless (as a former VA)
Also Linux Mint is like the little engine that could since its less bloated than Ubuntu. I'm using Nobara 44 on my main ssd and about to try CachyOS on the other. Recently beat Space Marine 2 and must admit Saber was cookin. What about you Lynx?

5 & 6 are on my to do list. Games with biblical/theological overtones seem to draw me in as well. The Tiger and Elephant system was a nice touch in 4. Hunting=grinding that's the point.
And we are in agreement, violent video games do not bother me whatsoever
Path of Exile never interested me either but if ya got designer skills always go for it.

I have unlocked the gate with the 3 power crystals but am sort of stuck on finding the sea critters list for the abandoned Nature Preserve that Keroppi wants to restore

Also, Badatz is in a boy band or something. Not a k-pop one, more like Sgt Pepper's Marching band. The costumes are like the what the Beatles wore lol. He sells comic books on a jetty and helped me do some fishing. I caught one fish.
