Oh yes they did OMC.

1 Corinthians 12:4:10
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are
varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation
of the Spirit for the common good
. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word
of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the
one Spirit, and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits,
to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.

You have understood the N.T from a purely intellectual and reason based perspective.

Unfortunately, you have declared the letter to the Corinthians as obsolete in holding that perspective.

You cannot hold to the canon of scripture without accepting 1 Corinthians as the Lord's instruction for the church.

It's one or the other OMC.

You are forced to accept the fruit, gifts, and ministries of the Holy Spirit, if you regard the N.T letters as canon.

Do you accept 1 Corinthians or not?
You’re confusing what Paul lists as manifestations of the Spirit with what Paul defines as the evidence of the Spirit’s presence, and those are not the same category

The problem, other than your demon attitude, with your “the Church duh” response is that it ignores the fact that
Scripture itself distinguishes apostolic signs from ongoing works of the Spirit,

so appealing to “the Church” doesn’t erase the categories God revealed regarding what those gifts were for and when they operated.
oh now i have a demon attitude. Hoe predictable. And immature you have displayed yourself. FYI Christians can't have a demon. Jesus words are Scripture. He is the word. Were done. have a nice day.

A “demon attitude” isn’t about supernatural beings, but about the kind of destructive, truth‑resisting behavior Scripture warns against. It’s marked by constant blame‑shifting, avoiding self‑reflection, thriving on conflict, using fear or shame to control, rejecting correction, and trying to dominate conversations or relationships through chaos instead of clarity. You see it when someone stirs up trouble, twists words, escalates tension, refuses peace, and meets truth with anger or mockery instead of thoughtful reflection. Biblically, it’s what James calls “earthly, sensual, devilish” wisdom — full of contention, envy, and disorder — not because the person is possessed, but because their attitude mirrors the harmful patterns Scripture links to the adversary: accusing, deceiving, pride, and refusing to submit to truth.

you're a "buffoon." "they are simply incompetent buffoons who have no idea what they are doing."

And "immature." Lies: When there's a situation that's uncomfortable.

Keep going. The more you say, the more I understand why, even though your words are all fluffy and religious, they hit wrong.

You give a name with no way of anyone being able to verify who you actually are and then claim that the 5th ammendment somehow covers that lapse in discovery.

Well who the hee haw seemed to invoke the necessity in you having to give us a name? OMC would have been fine all by it's lonesome.

See, we aren't curious. We, are careful. As we should be.

Who are you OMC?

Greetings, I am Dr. Crowe, ThD — Professor of Theology.

When saved: when our Lord conquered death

No, really. When exactly did you come to Christ in repentance and understanding that He took YOUR place on the cross? When did yu acknowledge hat His blood washed away all your sins and gave you new life?

Calling me a “buffoon” or “immature” doesn’t address the argument, because the point stands that labeling someone’s conduct as a “demon attitude” refers to the destructive patterns Scripture itself describes, not to personal name‑calling, and your insults simply avoid the textual issue rather than engaging it.

Your comment about names and the Fifth Amendment doesn’t touch the actual point, because the issue was never curiosity about identity but the misuse of Scripture to justify personal attacks, and your sarcasm simply avoids that textual problem rather than addressing it

Your question about when I “came to Christ” doesn’t address the argument at all, because you’ve shifted from discussing the text to demanding a personal testimony as a way to discredit the point, and that tactic avoids the substance rather than engaging it.

Oh I was only talking to you. The arguement about the gift was settled both when Paul wrote what he did and for me when I was about 17 or 18. I have no intention of arguing scripture with a cessationist.

Let me repeat taht. I was only talking to you and your misued of the trust of the people in this forum. :)

What arguement? Do you know Christ as your Savior is the question.

You discredit yourself with your evasiveness. Personal salvation is what it is all about. That's the end result of the gospel.

I was never discussing the topic at hand with you so how did I shift away from it? hmmmm?

Paul calls them the gifts of the Holy Spirit given to those whom God selects to have them and their use is for the edification of the body...that is, believers in God's salvation through His Son. There are probably thousands in this world who claim this gift or that gift but they are human efforts and not spritual appointments from God.

Where in scripture is there a difference made in distinguishing signs and calling them 'apostolic' from the activity of the Holy Spirit in this world? Other than people who make division and confuse spirit with flesh and in the end, turn to their flesh both for undertanding and verification from others who believe the same, that they alone hold truth....when it has slipped through their grasping hands almost from the moment they doubted

listen weather you use AI or not, you're still bloviating . You use Greek Hebrew that you did not get or even read. That what I see in your response. I could take what you just said put into AI and post a rebuttal to everything you just said. It's a revolving door with no end. its fake guy. I will do what you and all will se what I mean.

Better sit down. I did not use any A.I. in my research. I used by usual scholarship sources. Your attempt to impune my argument by inventing a fake source demonstrates that your "I am an expert" on all thing biblical is suspect.

According to Scripture, your demand for a personal testimony does not invalidate the argument I made, because the Bible teaches that the truth of a point must be tested by the Word itself (Acts 17:11), not by forcing someone to talk about their own salvation on command, and when you insist that my refusal to shift topics “discredits” me, you are doing exactly what Proverbs 18:13 warns against—answering a matter before hearing it

According to Scripture, the distinction between apostolic signs and ongoing works of the Spirit is not something “people made up,” because the Bible itself ties certain signs uniquely to apostolic authority (2 Corinthians 12:12), to the foundation‑laying period of the Church (Ephesians 2:20), and to the confirmation of newly‑given revelation (Hebrews 2:3–4), while it separately describes the Spirit’s continuing operations in believers throughout the age (Galatians 5:22–23; Romans 12:6–8), so your claim that Scripture makes “no distinction” simply ignores the categories God already revealed

According to scripture, you are a cessationist and of course by your own admission, so that's your business.

But back to the fact that I asked you a question having no discourse in this thread prior to that question.

And again, your lament that I demanded something from you is just downright strange since people here are who know Jesus are
happy to say when they met Him as their Savior, when their sins were forgiven and when they were given new life by the Spirit of God.

There is no force. How have I overcome your resistance and forced anything from you?

According to Scripture, your insistence that my unwillingness to shift from a doctrinal argument to a personal‑testimony interview “discredits” me is itself the mistake, because the Bible teaches that truth is tested by the Word (Acts 17:11), not by demanding someone’s conversion story on command, and Scripture warns that judging a brother’s standing based on whether he satisfies your rhetorical demands is exactly what James 4:11–12 forbids—placing yourself in the seat of the judge rather than submitting to the authority of God’s Word

So, let's address the acutal op since you seem eager to do so.

Is cessation an observation or theology?

ps: I cannot discredit you unless you are already discredited. I mean, if you know who you are, surely your 'credit' is secure? How have your arrived at the conclusion this forum offers you some kind of credit?

When people cannot answer a question and yet wish to remain as what they believe is observable superior knowledge, it results
in many words and we all know what Proverbs has to say about that.

Did you miss the point on purpose? The history of Christianity is one of ever evolving interpretation fueled division and "my way or the highway" on virtually every issue which you claim to be self evident. History is history. It is accessible in vast libraries in text and in data. No A.I. needed. You want to relitigate issues that have never brought agreement across the Christian community. Everyone claiming exclusive arguments and innovative insights, personal interpretations ect has only led Christianity down a divisive and now rapidly declining road.

As I have expressed over and over, if you want to claim that you personally have the gift of healing, interpretation of tongues and other special gifts of the Holy Spirit, then rejoice. Be glad. Thank God and do His will with the gifts He has given you. As even you recognize not everyone has these or other unique Holy Spirit granted gifts and all New Testament writers who address this reality recognize that not everyone has these same gifts.

Do you believe that you can argue that the special gifts of the Holy Spirit God has given you can be argued into someone else's life? Is that quest from argumentation part of your Holy Spirit gift? I hope not, because we are told to test those making claims of Holy Spirit Gifts. In 1st Thessalonians. In 1st John we are told "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world." In first Corinthians Paul says "Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said." in 1st Corinthians 12:109 Paul also said, "Among the list of spiritual gifts provided to the church, Paul actually identifies a specific gift intended to evaluate others: the "distinguishing between spirits" (or the discernment of spirits), which is given to protect the church from false or misguided messages. Those speaking in tongues have others with the gift of interpreting those who do. Today's speaking in tongues have nobody with the gift of interpreting them as we now believe just the gift itself is a "sign" of some kind. That is not how Paul saw that process. He says that spiritual gifts are for the benefit of all. We are told to valuate the lifestyle and outcomes of the person using the gift. Thus, anyone claiming a special gift of the Holy Spirit must be willing to have their life examined to see if one's life is worthy of belief.

According to Scripture, the question “is cessation an observation or a theology?” is answered by the fact that doctrine is built on what the text says (2 Timothy 3:16), not on personal testimony or rhetorical pressure, and the attempt to claim that my refusal to abandon a textual argument for a biographical interview “discredits” me is exactly what James 4:11–12 forbids—placing yourself in the seat of the judge—while Proverbs warns that multiplying accusations instead of addressing the actual point is the behavior of one who “meddles with strife not belonging to him” (Proverbs 26:17), meaning the issue is Scripture’s teaching, not your assessment of my “credit.”
