Hello all, I am new here but a lifelong Christian. For context, I am an 18 year old who suffered from sexual abuse and assult when I was 15 while attending a Catholic private school. I have been doing mostly okay but the past few months have been incredibly difficult for me. I have been burdened by intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, and nightmares nearly every day. I am so scared that I feel like I upset God or that he wants me to be hurting like I am now. I struggle with anxiety and depression nearly every moment of my day. I feel so abandoned and lost in my life. It is so hard for me to feel God's love due to my circumstances. If anyone has any advice or prayers for me I would love to hear them. I know I'll be alright in the end but I'm just really scared right now. Thank you so much.
Hi Joey,
I am so sorry that you have suffered so much in the past and are going through this.
Do you have anyone in your everyday life that you can talk to? A school counselor, pastor, or youth pastor? Someone with experience in counseling people through such a terrible thing that was not your fault...
No, God most definitely does not want you to be suffering like this because of a horrible act someone else pushed on you against your will. I understand that it must be difficult though to feel God's approval because a situation like that leaves you feeling ashamed.
I'm a woman, so I wouldn't be an ideal candidate to talk to (better for you to talk to a gentleman,) but I'm going to pray that you might connect with someone here or elsewhere that will understand and be able to help.
Have you tried looking for support sites online as well?
Most especially within the Catholic church, and within religious settings in general (I've know a lot of people who were/are abused by those claiming to be Christian or "God-fearing"), so I'm guessing there must be several support groups out there. If nothing else, you could look up general SA support groups and hotlines.
I'm sorry I can't offer much better assistance but I will be praying for you and if you'd like, please keep us posted on your journey.
Blessings to you!
