For those who do tithe most of those christian churches require 10% right off of the top. This is usally refered to as a tithe. When in fact a tithe was generally considered to be 10% of the increase. First fruits offering required a portion of the best/off the top offering. The bible is not specific on the amount. Some rabbinic teachers say the first 1 or 2%.

That said what if I told you that the tithe was not meant to be offered to the church but once out of every three years? That the other 2/3s portion of the tithe was meant to sustain a man and his family to take a pilgrimage back to the temple, and that the tithe was to be eaten/spent on food and beer so the pilgrim could sustain himself and his family for that yearly journey..

The Law goes on to say if you have been blessed with so much that you can't get it all there you can sell it and take the money and use it to buy food/beer when you make your trip. But, on the 3rd year that tithe offering was to be taken to the church to support/sustain it.

This seems a lot different, that what I was taught.

Deu 14:

Tithes

22 Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year. 23 Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always. 24 But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the Lord your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the Lord will choose to put his Name is so far away), 25 then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the Lord your God will choose. 26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice. 27 And do not neglect the Levites living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own.

28 At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, 29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

Precious friend(s), giving [ not tithing ] Today, Under Grace?:

"Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly,
or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver." (2 Corinthians 9:7 AV)
I'm not speaking about giving. I am addressing the churches that specifically require a tithe 10%. then try and scripturally justify the offering. as being allocated for the running of the temple/church and benevolence for widows and orphans. Where as scripturally the tithe 2 out of three years was to be consumed/used by the tithe giver to make a pilgrimage to the temple once a year.

Why are you talking about something God told them as in Israel.. thousands of years ago in Deut. Christ came died rose.. why take just this one and not the rest?

Anyway.. if a believer wants to give a penny, cent, sen, paise, kopek, centavo or more to the lord or to the Church daily or weekly or monthly or yearly because they want to or because the lord has so blessed them or those maybe they can't or just don't is fully hundred precent between them and the great I AM.

Your lumping the Church here. Yes I have heard to give 10%... pffft where are you coming up with Christians are legally commanded to follow the Old Testament tithing system? Scripture teaches us that Christ fulfilled the legal and ceremonial requirements of the Old Covenant, so were no longer bound by its specific "agricultural mandates or percentage-based rules"

That being said we give to God. That is the Church. That is helping that pastor get the gospel out since most of us are not doing it huh

There's 3 tithes, 10%, 10% of the increase, and firstfruits.

When a called out one eventually receives the spirit of Christ, the automatic response is you want to give all you have. Just like they did at Pentecost.

The tithes are a governor, to keep the saints from giving everything.

Where is the tithing at Pentecost ?

These are the only references to tithing I know of in the Bible

Genesis 14:20; Hebrews 7:1-10;
Genesis 28:20-22; Leviticus 27:30-33;
Numbers 18:24-28; Deuteronomy 12:6-7; 11-12; 12:17-18; 14:22-29; 26:12;
II Chronicles 31:5-6, 12; Nehemiah 10:37-38; 12:44; 13:5, 12; Amos 4:4; Malachi 3:8-10;
Matthew 23:23 and Luke 11:42

Never said there was tithing at Pentecost.

It's a matter of giving. Pentecost is an example of the purest form of the giving response when receiving the spirit of Christ.
Ok, I thought I was missing a scripture example from my list :)

did you read ALL of the op before you commented?

You should read the whole op.

If we need a scripture for the most natural thing a Christian will do, it's back to the drawing board.
You are talking about chickens while I am talking about hamsters - you are on a different page to the topic, I did not mention freely giving or charity.

Don't confuse the temple of the Sinai covenant with the local church of the new covenant; that are not the same thing. It is no more appropriate to take instructions given to ancient Israel regarding the tithe and apply them to the church than it is to treat the wife of a jealous husband to a poison trial. Christians are not under the Sinai covenant.

There is NO instruction for Christians to "tithe" in Scripture. There is instruction to give to support those in ministry and the needy. There is no suggested portion or proportion, but rather admonition to give "as you have decided in your heart" and "cheerfully, and not under compulsion".

Any local church that "requires" that its members give 10% of anything has stepped outside the authority of Scripture and is best ignored. Individuals are free to give whatever they choose, but using the word "tithe" in reference to voluntary financial contributions just leads to confusion, uncertainty, and fear, none of which have any place in the Church.

By the way, the 10% was never payable in money. ;)
